I liked that because I'm so tired of, in general, not seeing lesbian content that both have the romantic and sexual aspects of a relationship. Either we're too sexualised because of the actual hell that is porn either we're depicted as chaste, pudic girlfriends only accepted as representation on television if the spectators aren't reminded that lesbians and bi women are actually intimate and have sex together.
@@harryrocks44 real. Lesbians openly seducing each other is avoided because of fetishisation despite the fact any heterotypical depiction can step anywhere it chooses because ‘we’re used to it’. I agree with why it’s censored but I also believe it’s being a shell of what it actually is. Women who love women are wholly sexual creatures, same as women who love men (I think stigma of being a sexual woman remains as somehow being improper or that having a sexual appetite is somehow a masculine trait and unbecoming of ladies). I’m hoping for more casual portrayal of accurate intimate relationships in the future as we become more accepting. I totally know what u mean tho
I don´t agree with most of these comments about ppl don´t liking this scene and so on. I love this scene, the choreography is so beautiful and simple. Yes, this episode was a bit confusing but it was also one of my faves from the entire show. And Hailee fully deserves an Oscar or an Emmy for her performance in this episode alone. Next episode we will get THAT emisue scene that we saw to seconds of in the trailer that we haven´t seen yet. Can´t wait.
the sad thing is that, that scene is all we'll get and it's the final season. lol. it's another instance of everything is magically resolved at last minute (episode) and we get a short scene of them being couple-y and that's it. because apparently there's no emisue in ep10.
Okay but I absolutely loved this episode. I think we're literally seeing Emily descend into her own personal hell, and it parallels Dante's Inferno. So she's seeing her absolute worst fears because as the war wears on and her family becomes more and more torn, she starts losing hope. And this particular scene, which I saw as the worst part of her hell, is everything she fears with Sue - being on the verge of having her and still feeling like she can't or shouldn't, and then Sue leaving her forever. It's like what she has wanted for so long is right there, but something's off (which is why Sue is acting so strange) and things get out of hand and she loses her again. And then the episode ends with a bird, which represents the hope she still has left (because "Hope is the thing with feathers"), and which pulls her out of her inferno. I think people keep forgetting this isn't supposed to be solely a love story, and I think they're doing a great job representing the torment of her life during this period.
I like this scene. The entire show is about a study of how Emily Dickinson’s mind ran. Her poems are a reflection of that, and through that the Show Runners concluded that it is complicated, contradicting, romantic and filled with fears and doubts. She wanted someone but did not allowed wanting more for herself at the same time. The real Emisue’s relationship was “so near yet so far”.
their relationship was never easy in real life and probably only happened in a few precious moments. they were probably mostly longing for each other. Emily spent all her time in her room with her poems, which probably means most of her life happened in her imagination. i like that they’re staying true to that. and this show was never predictable. lets just enjoy the ride.
this resonates so much with me.. i resonate with emily.. spending her time in a room writing, imagining, visualising a future and a scene where she's freed, in her head where she can express herself without being restricted..
While i would really love an emisue kiss, it wouldn't have made sense as everything else was a nightmare since this is emily's personal hell that she is battling. And this scene DOES make sense because from the way I interpret it, it's emily facing her deepest darkest nightmares and fears and her pulling away from the kisses simply made sense because she didn't feel comfortable in the depths of her heart despite her love for sue(because of how unprogressive the world was back then) and it was basically a battle with herself and her pulling away depicts that. It's genius story writing. Absolutely love the whole episode. And here's a reminder that in real life, it's not just about love, kisses and happiness, it comes with fear, nightmares and everything else "negative". And that's just so brilliant because it's so realistic. Just my two cents worth. :)
You guys have the observation skills of kindergartners. The episode represents Emily's mind descending into her biggest fears on how her family sees her. The dancing is also supposed to seem weird because Emily isn't into it
For sure. You can tell she’s paranoid the entire time because she’s literally just seen her father dead and her brother, sister and mother acting insane. It would be weirder and out of place if she was into it.

As much as I wish the same, I remember hearing that Emily and Sue never got married in real life. In fact, Emily spent the last few years of her life solely in her room, writing poems. If the series is planning to stay true to real life, then Emily and Sue will not be together in the long run.

But had they been given the possibility, if the whole social context of the time wasn't heterocentric, things would have been different ! A marriage doesn't equal love, gay people probably know it better than anyone. Sue and Austin were married, yet Sue loved Emily and vice versa. They loved each other all their life and Sue even wrote a poem that she read at Emily's funeral. The informations are out there if you look for it.
@@harryrocks44 Regardless of the actual show, if I really like an on screen couple and get attached, and have been rooting for them since the beginning, I do tend to get heartbroken if things don’t work out. There’s definitely not enough representation out there of wlw. I know that the way things are going on the show they may not end up together (and I know about how it wasn’t that way in real life either). I’ll just be sad, that’s all 😅
Basically Emily has now realized that Sue probably feel so unwanted because she did not kiss her when she threw herself at her in the last episode. Must be so tough for Emily trying to keep her family together, trying to prove to her father that women are equal to men and hoping he would bring change, Lavinia’s hopelessness, and her mother seems to be in some sort of depression, feeling bad for being in love with Sue because of the pain Austin is in, and finally her undying love for Sue which triumphs all!!! It always comes back to Sue and her love for Sue. Always and forever, it’s basically Emily’s answer to everything!!! Took me a while to understand this episode but once you understand it you realize how it was beautifully done!!! I came across this show randomly and fell in love. Masterpiece I would say.
I think this whole hell trip is showing her biggest fears. She’s thinking about the fact that she didn’t kiss Sue or given her the affection she’s wanting and now she’s losing hope. If she continues the way things are going, Sue will give up on her.
I said it before in a comment to someone but here are my thoughts on this scene that I quite enjoyed watching. The key to why Emily starts being uncomfortable at some point here could be because usually Emily is shown as being more of the active one, the one who pursues Sue more, yet it is not the case here nor in most of what we've seen in s3, where this is reversed because of how Emily is centring her family and kind of being lukewarm toward Sue. Her fears and doubts are acting up this season and so it makes her not control the situation like she used to, she didn't even respond to Sue telling her to kiss her, taking initiatives, etc, she's strangely shying away from her love even though we have seen times and times again that she is in love with her (some of you in the comments seem to have forgotten pretty fast the bar scene). The result is that in her dream/nightmare, the person she loves the most leaves her, the worst fear she has. This is a metaphorical sequence that shows that Emily wants to change back and become more herself again, she wants to take initiatives, to reassure Sue, to be the gentlewoman, to save their relationship, to act accordingly to what Lavinia said in the dream "future" sequence of episode 7. Sue isn't "dressed like a man", like I've seen some poor souls say, she's dressed in a masculine way. The Victorian era most trendy costume for men, which is quite hot and a lesbian dream, which kind of parallels the Sue we're seeing in s3, who owns up more her sexuality and is - at the surprise of everyone - the one who isn't afraid to talk about her feelings. Just look better at the scene, for the vast majority of the time Emily is responding well to Sue, she touches her, she mirrors her dancing, sure she is sometimes unsure of herself because that's the point (fear of actually showing her feelings toward another woman, shame/ internalised lesbophobia that is truly hitting hard for the first time) but she stills follow because she likes that (duh), you can even see she wants to kiss Sue at 1:28. Emily only begins to actually not being into it when SHE is dreaming of Sue dancing in a goofy way, that's her self sabotaging the dream, that's her sabotaging her relationship. This is a fantastic scene about Emily's fears and how if she keeps doing what she does irl she will lose Sue just like in her inferno nightmare.
This scene was so good, the choreography was simple but I could feel the emotion of both of them! It has meaning! Ella and Hailee are amazing for portraying such emotions. And also the colors used were going well with the mood

You know it sucks that this last clip is the takeaway from the episode. When Emily confronts her dad I swear it’s some of the best acting from Hailee I’ve seen in this show. The close up was intense and her realization that her dad has “no imagination” and she was wrong the whole time hit so damn hard! Brilliant from Hailee!!!
This episode was so confusing for me, like Emily keeps saying she wants Sue but isn't really showing it. I also didn't like this scene, even in the moment when all she had left was Sue she still didn't want that. I'm confused has to the fact of what exactly DOES Emily want.
I am saddened by these programs, they make me fall in love with characters that loved so deeply. The idea they loved so fully and still time killed them and their love died brings pain to my heart. With enough time all love stories become tragedies.
Also, besides the fact that it reflects the internal fight Emily is having about how to love Sue, Sue looks a lot like Austin in this scene, like she is a constant reminder of the fact that Emily is hurting her brother!
As I have said before, this came straight out of the pages of someone’s dirty little fan fiction heart. I don’t think they were going for laughter in this scene but Ella’s dancing when she’s facing Emily and has her arms in the air and she’s swinging her hips from side to side. I busted out laughing. I couldn’t help thinking about S1 ep2 when they’re dancing to Lizzo’s ‘boys’ and she does a similar move with only one arm in the air. Then I thought of S1 ep3 when Joseph Lyman is dancing with his back to Vinnie and she’s behind him and he’s grabbing the inside of his thighs in the same move Sue does to Emily. The only difference is that Sue uses both their hands to rub her body. I liked the scene but I personally would have preferred the outfits to have been switched. I’ll take whatever I can get of Emisue at this point. Oh and the let me put something else in there line that Sue says to Emily shocked me. I don’t know why it did but it did. I would have loved to record the look on my face when that line was delivered. I can’t wait to see reaction videos of that line on here.
nah but they wasted their insane chemistry by not giving them enough love scenes this season. i love everything else about the show, but the way they "developed" emisue's storyline is so mediocre and sad. and the fact that they advertised this to us in a completely different light feels very disingenuous.

This Ep in my opinion was trying to say Emily has wild imagination Sue wants her bad don't care about anything else but Emily and her baby she want the mess but Emily want everybody and everything to be okay but in life some things/people just don't change and everything's not going to be okay
This scene reminds me of that feeling of all encompassing love, addiction, where no one and nothing else exists in the moment. And even though it is pure ecstasy you know deep down you can’t stay in this space for forever and you have to re enter the real world.
I think at this episode we had seen clear mind Emily about her father,she always thought he will support woman their opinions but now she just was disappointed 🤧😭And I think after that she will really realize her love to Sue and could live without hiding their feelings🌹🤩

It’s probably unlikely they will stay together. Emily can’t take her brother’s baby just like that and neither can Sue - I find it crazy. In my opinion this will have an open and unclear ending.

You know I think the person who made this all make sense is Austin funny enough. He said Emily doesn’t love Sue but loves writing poems about loving Sue. When he said that I was like 😬 ya got a point homie! And it shows in this clip. I’m the beginning dance she seemed ok but as it continued Emily got hesitant and awkward. So depressing for us fans tbh. At least in Split the Lark last season we got a fantasy kiss. Now we get a fantasy awkward dance and Sue falling clip 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

This season is fucked up.wat r they doing .the tension BTN them is getting worse.why aren't they giving them love scenes.its making me anxious and lose love for the show.is it how the whole season is going to end with Emily ignoring and running away from sue yet she says she loves her
I asked myself the same thing. Maybe her subconscious sees Sue as a man to convince herself that it’s ok to love Sue in the real world? I don’t know? Watching this scene and the entire episode several times since 3am has me no closer to figuring it out. Maybe someone will ask Alena and she’ll give an answer.
