OMG I just watched this movie and if it were more adorable it would be ruined! Accents right or wrong, it matters not! It is adorable and oddly funny. Emily Blunt & Jamie Dornan are seriously genius in the portrayal of their characters. Highly recommend it!

I loved the movie, always love seeing the beautiful Emily. However, Jamie's character was so dim-witted about the girl. But, I guess he had to be. Otherwise, no movie!

The director of Wild Mountain Thyme said ‘it’s not for Irish people.’ We are not easily offended but what’s hurtful is the fact that in a time when we are becoming more away of the harmful effects of cultural appropriation and stereotyping, people are just waving away Irish people who are genuinely saying they don’t like how this movie portrays Ireland. I love the cast, so it’s just a shame they didn’t do a more real Irish romantic comedy
@lynnk-j9948

The movie is a fable, a fantasy based on JPSs own Irish relatives. It isn't meant to represent modern Ireland. Irish saying only Irish actors should play in movies like this are ridiculous. Where does it end? English playing English, Scots playing Scots? Movies like this are make believe and are to entertain. Cultural appropriation? As someone said today on Twitter surely it's cultural appreciation. How easily offended ppl are today.

@@lynnk-j9948 Playing into stereotypes isn’t a fairytale. The director specifically said this movie wasn’t for Irish people because he knew we wouldn’t like it. If that not appropriation I don’t know what is. Appreciation? - talking to donkeys, portrayal of uneducated idiots who don’t know what cars are? Really? If that’s ur idea of enjoyment or appreciation, we aren’t going to see eye to eye. If u make a story about people & they tell u they find it insulting & ur response is only ‘it’s not for u’ or ‘it’s just a fairytale’ somethings wrong. Having Irish ancestry doesn’t give him a right to use these stereotypes. I showed the trailer to my 90 year old grandmother who live through the Troubles. Her response? - “Americans love making eejits (idiots) out of us.” I guarantee you; we’re not easily offended. We just drew the line. I agree though; Irish people can be played by non- Irish people. It’s just the accents can be really hard to do. I love the actors in this movie but they should have cast people who could do the accents (regardless if they were actually Irish or not)

@@user-le8xi9xi2iNormal People covered realism. I just think there is room for idiosyncratic too. Ppl all over the world seeing the movie are loving the characters, the scenery, the music and the story. It's such a shame that the movie has upset so many ppl. As for talking to a donkey I'm not sure that can be considered cultural appropriation. How could that be considered Irish? Lonely ppl, and ppl who live alone, everywhere talk to their animals. It's human rather than cultural. Many ppl who see the film will no doubt laugh at the scene but a lot I suspect will find it relatable, including me! Practising my mother of the bride speech to the cat springs to mind. Is mad cat lady a stereotype?

It’s really terrible how people are defending this movie. On the bright side, there are calls for more money to go into our film industry so people who have respect for our us and our culture can make movies about it. I remember growing up; American tourists would often come by my village and they’d always ask us things like, if we went to school and about sheep and would compliment our English. They expected us to be like what this movie depicts. How are they supposed to learn if this is the type of shite that’s being made ?

@@lynnk-j9948 Irish stereotypes : idiot farmers, who are uneducated Talking to a donkey, not knowing what a car is playing into that stereotype. The cultural appropriation we’re talking about is using parts of our culture (the music ect) and play into the stereotypes, have a laugh and then say - I know you're not going to like this movie. It's not for you. We like your culture but we are going to represent it in the way we want. The amount of Americans I have met who actually believe these cliches is astounding. Movies like this just propagate the idea.

We love Ireland! Irish people are awesome! This film actually evokes in me irresistible desire to visit Ireland as soon as this Covid nightmare is over! I’m sorry you feel it was misrepresentation... Subculture is a tricky thing. Accuracy of representing it is very subjective. Unless if u r from that little farm where they were filming and from that time period...

@@jasonfoster11 I welcome the fact that you appreciate the attractiveness of Ireland, but this movie fails to represent Ireland accurately and in fact relies heavily on old and all together overused stereotypes of Ireland. I, as much as the next Irish person do not get offended very often but this movie is a joke, it’s laughable. Also, i couldn’t make it through the film but was it not set in modern times?
@jasonfoster11
@jasonfoster11 3 года назад
@@foodislife1237 Are you saying that the farm/people/scenes, portrayed in this film, do not exist in real Ireland? At all? Anywhere throughout the entire island? Impossible to find? If yes, that excludes stereotyping. If not, that means it was a fantasy. (By the way, I’m an American, and could take offense as well, speaking of stereotyping Americans in this film. But why would I do that? This film made me laugh and elevated my mood. Don’t we all need it in these times?) may be write Shanley a letter about making another film about Urban Ireland. He may consider it! Pls tell me what film represents Ireland accurately. I want to watch it.

@@jasonfoster11 If you want to take offence to the stereotypes of American in this movie, you have all the right to lad, no need to ask me.But regarding what I wad talking about, the story is ostensibly set in the present day, yet no character uses a cellphone or the internet. I also live in the back end of no where, on a farm might I add and I can ensure you that no I don’t run around in my ankle length skirt and shawl, nor do I spend my days yelling tweedle Dee and tweedle do. I’m sure at one point in our history many many years ago these characters would have been representing people in some aspect but again this movie is set in MODERN day Ireland.This movie is like if every stereotype of Irish people, was thrown together ahaha. But I would recommend the Wind that Shakes the Barely.
