I had the good fortune to play with her earlier that day, accompanying her as she gave a brilliant clinic at the school that would later become McNally Smith College of Music. Thank you for this recording!
Her passing was untimely and tragic. She will be deeply missed. Her talent was immense, and her music will live on forever. This comment is from a Japanese person.
Thank you very much for sharing this recording. She plays so beautiful here, it's really a gem. And specially the song "Softly as a Morning Sunrise" is performed very sensitive! I was lucky to witness some gigs of her and in my opinion she was at her best here...
Have always thought : how fortunate Emily was to have hooked up with Herb Ellis , everything she needed to know & practice to be a jazz guitar great , she was exposed to thru humble Herb . Have a nice day you all .
Not sure, these were available on the internet before I uploaded. My guess is the bassist, Kelly Roberti recorded some of the gigs. He passed away about 5 years but I've always wondered if his family has a treasure trove of live Emily recordings.
Emily's voice sounds deeper when she's speaking to the audience, so you are probably right. I haven't tried it with my guitar so it's possible. This is how I received it. Would love it if someone who is savvy with cleaning up recordings to take these and fix and clean up.
The voice thing is probably a give-away that it's the recording that's a bit slow. But if not, maybe it was a house piano that shifted the standard down? Maybe one of the surviving players would know? In any case a stunning document of some great live playing.
