His lyrics are still fucking amazing, his sound has just changed. It is hard to compete with two (Eminem Show and Marshall Mathers LP) of the best rap LPs of all time though.
For somebody to not like Em, I get it, that's your opinion. But people need to stop denying that lyrically, he is one of the best to ever pick up the mic, maybe THE best. The slim shady lp and Marshall Mathers lp, already proved that unequivocally, but on the Eminem show, it got boosted to a level hard for even the greatest ever to match, and in my opinion, lyrically, I don't think anyone has matched. He deserves everything he's ever gotten, and to say it's only cause he's white is a disservice to real hip hop and real hip hop artists, and is simply untrue. I don't care who you are or what category you put him in, if we're talking purely skill, he's Gotta be at least in the top ten of all time.
+Mike Ike Ems a whole different kind of monster from immortal technique. If immortal techniques still would be considered more lyrical then em, then we need a new descriptor for em. What I'm mostly talking about is Ems ability to cram so many rhymes together in a verse without ever deviating from the original rhyme. To put it in poetry terms, most rappers verses go somethin like this: A. B A. B B. B C. A Or somethin like that. Whereas in some songs Ems more like A. A. A A. B. A A A. A B. A A and sometimes for his entire verse. I've yet to see another rapper that can do things like this anywhere near his level. But immortal technique is just an entirely different animal
the phrase ''lyrically , I don't think anyone has matched'' can be used in every single emcee in the golden age of hiphop. When will you fan boys understand that, this is hip hop , there shall never or there shouldn't be another Em, another NaS, another Guru, another Method Man , another De La Soul, etc etc. NaS will never match Guru, Guru will never match NaS, Rakim will never match *insert emcee here* , Em will never be matched and he will never match *insert emcee here*. Just remember Macklimore won a grammy.
He disses democrat presidents, too. Call yourself an Eminem fan? In the music video for his very first song, My Name Is, he pretends to be Bill Clinton getting blown by Monica. He also said he'll rip out out Hillary Clinton's tonsils in Role Model. Trump is the biggest douchebag in history. It would hypocritical for Eminem not to point this out.
The second verse slays after 2:14. That's how to rap, homies... I once saw a car with two blacks dudes in it, playing this song on high volume. They didn't care about color.
Classic Record no matter your color you gotta give props to Eminem. Each track is better than the one before, not a bad track on this record. GOAT for sure, how many rappers and they songs are still relevant today? Not many, I can think of one.... His Name is Slim Shady!!!!
"Nothin' moves me more than a groove that soothes me Nothin' soothes me more than a groove that boosts me Nothin' boosts me more or suits me beautifully There's nothin' you can do to me, stab me, shoot me." Epic
I don’t think people realize how amazing this is. Arguably Em in his prime. Unfortunately he got hooked on pills soon around this period and this form was never maintained and changed his style.
I agree this was the peak of his career in general, but he still made a lot of great work and continues to now it’s just different. But the bulk of what he had to say and prove was in these years leading up to this album.
Yeah, because there is nothing more to say for him. He’s said all he wanted to and needed to say. You just want him to start making the same recycled shit over and over again?
I thought he always had a pill problem it just spiraled due to the opeit crisis and the fact he could literally buy all the pills he wanted. At least in Daja Vu he makes it seem that way with him talking about as a kid starting on nite quail. And I think he mentioned in another song he got Valium by stealing them from his mom. And in Rock Bottom which he wrote before he became famous he mentions taking Percent during times of crisis. It definitely got worse around the time 8 Mile and The Eminem Show came out. But I think it's always been a constant in his life.
Not the greatest album in Hip Hop by any means. It’s great but it’s not the best in the whole genre. It’s not touching Illmatic or Stillmatic, Liquid Swords, Gang Starr’s Moment of Truth.
At this point the only songs i dont listen to on the album are cleaning out my closet, soldier and till i collapse cause i listened to them way too many times
Anybody that thinks Eminem was anti-war just to be cool or out of opportunity is deluded: his mother (not exactly an ally of his) confirmed that he was against wars from a very young age.
Same İ wasnt even understanding a word from his songs because english wasnt my first language. But my several years in childhood passed listening this guys music thinking to myself "patience, someday u will understand everything what he says."
@@Kav2990 really? I don't remember blowing up in tears when Obama was elected. Nor blowing up in tears when Trump was elected. And, we get angry and find it disrespectful for someone to disrespect a flag that at least a million people have died for... Unless you like dissing dead people who fought for your freedom. That's cool, whatever floats your odd boat.
@@yesno3185 I'm sorry, but when have people died for the flag? They fought for the country, for their families, for our freedom, sure, but the flag is a piece of fabric that happens to be symbolic. You do understand what symbolism means right? Do you also understand that using symbolism is the strongest way to express how you feel? If you think people died for our flag than your appreciation for what they've done is much less than what they deserve. I didn't care for Obama but I did not like Trump, I do not agree with him. Obama was in office when I was too young to be involved, but as far as I'm concerned, he made life easier for me with little things like making gas more affordable, gas prices spiked when Trump was ushered in. I know it's just one thing, but as I said, I was a few years short of having an opinion that mattered in politics when Obama was elected. I think the entire U.S. political system is in need of reform.
Eminem is STILL the voice of a generation, not a bad track on this album.. This song especially still relative to this day and I think was way underrated when released. I guess some people just didn't get it!! They gonna get when the shit becomes too real and we all laugh out loud that it was predicted already by a rapper from the 80's!! You cant get more relative then that!!!! Much love for this guy for real!!!!
GOD IS loving or so Cold to those who mess with family....whats up with topamax(toportalmax) regulin(sugar hack) phenabarbotol(barber shop cutters) wtf?
When ppl ask me why I think Em is the greatest ever, I cant help but think of this song. What sets Em apart when he was in his prime was the effortless delivery of every syllable of every verse of the mmlp, this album and the 8 mile era(including the first d12 album). Honestly, name one other modern artist who made so many quality albums/tracks in a row for half a decade. There is no one close.
I would print a billions of copies of this to hand out to the people who think em is just good cause he is white. Like you can't deny this talent idc what you are
I can't believe how relevant this song is as of today, mainly the part about recruiting young people in the army, because of the war between Russia and Ukraine
First rap album I bought. loved every second of this album. passion and skill. ruined well spoiled me. I'll never find another hip hop album take me like that. I've liked them all but this one had me
I want2 believe motoxx this comment is 3 years old but... I remember asking my older brother to walk me to the music store so I could get this album. So influential on my young mind haha.
@@atruedovahkin8254 I’m 13 and I’m a walking encyclopaedia of hip hop. Idek how I got into it. Im from Ireland (it isn’t popular here at all really) and everyone I know doesn’t listen to rap, I guess I put myself on to it. Eminem is strong in my top ten at around 6 or 7
chris webby is dope but dont listen to those webby wednesday songs. most r trash, if you want a taste of real chris webby listen to the wednesday album.
+Tristan Steinhelfer I wanted to square dance, ended up screaming "All this terror, America demands action, Next thing you know you've got uncle Sam's ass askin' To join the army or what you do for the navy"
+Ahad Sathi (AhadTheAwesome HD) Sorry but the flow the beats the lyrics everything was just perfect, his content was just utterly untouchable and everything was real before with him. Nowadays its just a bunch of random rhyming, screaming, Berzerk song was just a disaster. I mean for those who really followed EM trough out his career you cant disagree that Marshall Mathers LP 2 was nowhere near the marshall mathers lp or the slim shady lp..Recovery was just the worst . Relapse was much better, his last descent album, and some good songs on Marshall Mathers LP 2..
+Mode Liukas While I agree that older Eminem is better than new for the most part, speaking objectively, I think the general consensus from people who have been following his whole career disagrees with what you have said about some of his later output. In my experience, most would say that Relapse was the disaster and Recovery was some of his best.
Recovery was nothing like the old em from mmlp, slim shady ep, slim shady lp and infinite.. but the new style was still good and now it feels like he can't get any better.. he's at his prime now..
I listened to Biggie and thought he was just kind of alright. Oh and don't get me started on 2Pac... No if you want a rapper that even is close to competing with Eminem there's Nas.
English is not my native language and i've been learning it for some time now. I get impressed of how much more vocabulary i learn listening to eminem than to reading academic articles. Honestly almost all of the new words a learn come from him.
the nostalgia is strong with this one ! i used to listen to this track on repeat everyday all day when i was a teen ! i forgot the title of the song for years, and i finally found it by singing what i remember of it to google assistant.
Huge huge fan of this song. Back in the days, I felt like i was the only one who liked it. happy to see 12K likes. Too bad we could not get good songs like this nowadays.
Darker in what sense ? Because he talks about ántrax diss Bush talks about war and paying someone that has nothing to kill you ? Is that why you consider it dark ???
Incredible Mike nine squared is 81 which is the amount of people who disliked the vid. since the the song is called square dance.... hence 9 people were afraid to square dance so it was 81 dislikes
