Absolutely LOVE Mr. Rhodes---played his album (You're Such a Beauty, etc.) over and over instead of going to high school, along with The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Carole King, etc. Thought he'd be the super-star he deserved to be.
Love Emitt and I believe he could have gone further. Thanks for posting this video. After reading the last couple of comments, I have to jump in and say without question Todd Rundgren is one of the BEST ever musicians - he is so far above most musicians. After over 45 years in the business, Todd continues to tap into the breadth of his talent and does ALL types of music exceptionally well.
He's not McCartney; nobody else is either, but he made amazing music despite his hardships and bitterness. Sure, you want him to embody his beautiful songs, but sometimes that doesn't happen. He's still a genius who wrote and played great songs and that's what counts.
i almost didn't recognize him in this he seems younger than allot of other ecent video's ive seen of him and and more serious to play the music instead of holding on the the past resentment of how the record company's used him good for you emitt you truly were a one man beatle and surprisingly you never made it on to apple records or have had an album financed by paul george johh or ringo
I agree with much of what you write here, but must part company when you say Todd out sings Emitt. While Rundgren's good, I never thought he was even the best singer in his two main bands, Nazz (Stewkey) and Utopia (Kasim Sulton--check out the RU-vid of him doing Beatles covers, very close to Sir Paul). To me Rhodes in his prime had a purer voice than Runt in his prime, and may still have it, though it's impossible to tell by this video as his voice is buried in the mix.
