Best Harriet ever! as perfectly cast (and played) as the other characters are not. The fangirl look she gives Emma is spot-on. Also, Harriet NEEDS to be pretty and ingenue-like for her role in the plot to be plausible. This actor's English-rose, blue-eyed blonde softness and shy breathy voice are just right.
The dress Emma wears when she and Harriet are met by Mr. Elton, the purple/brown one, is probably my favorite of all her outfits. I love this era of history, except for two things: the fact that, even if you hate someone, due to the niceties of society, if they are your neighbor, you are required to be around them; and the crazy high waisted dresses. They look good on no one. Other than that, from a current time point of view, it seems like such a calm, slow, and relaxed time to live (for the upper class, naturally). They expend so much energy and spend so much time on such small things (whether or not someone has good handwriting, for example). It’s so delightful to me. Lol.
The upper classes were landowners so they didn't work. They made money from tenancies and any businesses they had. They must have got bored alot as there was a lot of social etiquette to follow and apart from socialising they needed to fill their time so they often concentrated on small things that the middle and working classes didn't have time to worry about. It's looks pleasant but I would have been too bored everyday and worrying about your social status is just shallow but the regency period was like this as well as other time periods.
I love mr. Woodhouse in the 2020 version. He tells Mr. Knightley we miss you in the evenings. What is funny is Mr. Knightley match makes Robert Martin.
When I listen to the theme tune to this,which is All Things Bright and Beautiful.I keep thinking that this tune is played by Les Dawson,there are quite a few dodgy notes in it!
And the actor who played Mr. Knightly was only 45. Knightly was supposed to be 37, so there was no good reason for the makeup artists to make him appear to be in his 60s!
Surely at this stage, Knightley wouldn't have said Emma was losing a governess; Miss Taylor hadn't served in that capacity for quite a while & might justifiably have been considered patronsing.
Sorry but Mr. Woodhouse looks like he is legit on death's door (totally emaciated!) - he looks like the grandfather of the house while Mr. Knightley looks like the father to Emma... and I'm sorry but Emma looks cross eyed and sparrow-expressioned (whatever that is)... she is supposed to be a blooming flower, rosy and healthy and naturally beautiful... things have certainly picked up since 1972. Disclaimer: I have nothing against the actors playing these roles, nor their physical appearance but I do maintain that none of these were suited for the roles as described in the original novel.

Emma was very young and pretty, this actress is neither, although she is not a bad actress, just miscast. Love John Carson! The rest of the cast is good too. Not a bad production, but sort of drab, as far as costumes go...
why the actors are so old, they are supposed to be younger?there is a big difference between this series and 2009 version where Emma and Mr.Knightly were presented in a better way and their clothes were fancier apart from that I admit that the acting is persuasive and good I just wanted the actors to be younger.

the one who plays the role of Mr.knightly doesn't look like 37he looks at least 50 years old same thing for Emma that doesn't look 17 nor 20 or at least 25.
The actor playing Mr Knightley is 45 and the actress playing Emma 28. In the book Mr Knightley is 37 and Emma is not yet one and twenty. Now if they looked younger then there would be no problem but they both look their age. After seeing the newest version of Emma where the actors are the actual age of the characters.
