A really surprising fact is how Carrie Fisher was actually one of the head writers for this year's show (69th Academy Awards of 1997) with Hal Kanter and Buz Kohan. She contributed material for the 74th (2002) and was head writer again for the 79th (2007). She truly was one of Hollywood's favorite in-demand, though mostly uncredited writer.
I like most of the songs but I can see how people wouldn't vote for it. The score is very different compared to The Little Mermaid, Alladin, Pochahontas and Beauty and the Beast. It's not as crowd-pleasing and "pop"y. Songs like Hellfire, Out There and Bells of Notre Dame are a bit more musical-ly. Some might not find that appealing to their ears - me included. It's when you listen to it multiple times and understand the lyrics that they start to grow on you.
@@laurajones1773 Ironic that he does a score for a less popular Disney animated film with Pocahontas and gets an Oscar for Best Original Score, yet he does another score for another less popular Disney animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame and loses the Best Original Score Oscar to Emma. I know describing both Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame as less popular sounds derogatory, but I’m not trying to bash those films. They’ve both got their own cult followings, it’s just when I say “less popular”, I mean they’re not on the same critical or financial standard as the previous Renascence films as Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.
+MrBracegurdle1 It was a disappointing decision on their part, but their worst decision is giving Chicago the Best Picture Oscar in 2002. That film was a terrible piece of shit.
Psycho and Vertigo were definitely snubbed for score which is ridiculous. Also, First Man should be nominated and won for score instead of Black Panther.
