Pahud is certainly a "standard" for me - by that I mean I can nearly always go to him and be sure that, against most any other interpretation, technical capabilities, emotional intelligence, he will be a standard of excellence and prodigious talent. I learn a great deal about interpretation from him each time.

I understand what you said. However, let me share with you. I speak with really superior flute musicians here where I live and they say they ALL aspire to play like Pahud. Pahud does use his feelings. Music is a manifestation of your feeling. How would one feel when music comes across as SCREECHING ? I agree with Pahud that you need to use your feelings. Music is the manifestation of the pure and divine (the positive qualities of a human being).

Erik, I do not know Pahud personally. So I wont say anything that comes across as judgemental. As I said originally, I am only looking and hearing the MUSIC. How does he play the super super super high note without annoying me because it sounds screeching ? I hear other flute players and they can't play those super super super high notes without screeching. If Pahud uses his own feelings and listens to his own music to make it better, then MORE POWER TO HIM his music is great.

Without words this beautiful music is even better. Tchaikovksy has made a beautifual aria out of "bad poetry". It is not a well-known fact outside of the Russian speaking world, but the text of this Lensky's aria is "sugary romantic" and banal; Pushkin has written it so on purpose to mock Lensky and make fun of him - it is stated quite clear in the text of the novel. But Tchaikovsky neglected it and wrote a plain romantic music

Erick, I am also a musician. Emmanuel's playing is NOT pretentious. If there is a more sincere musician it would be Pahud. His spanish heritage might give you the perception of pretentiousness but it is NOT his music. Now this is a compelling argument.

What is American culture ? Prove to me that you have the richness of the culture compared to many other countries who have been around for thousands of years ----- Eygpt., India, Greece, Turkey, etc. No I am not biased. I see the short handedness or cutting of corners..... Americans are homogenizing the other countries in the word. It is not biased. It is factual.

And if you think that Americans are not emotional or feelings based, or that we are homogenized, YOU are looking at us from YOUR culture...from your biased culture.
