Dont forget he had damaged his embouchure, but with a great tutor, who I think was Lew Soloff rebuilt everything and started playing with more air in his sound and with the best use of tongue. He is GOAT!!!
The best modern RU-vid channel for jazz, period, you won’t find anything better than this, there is really no competition, nobody beats Emmets group, and his features.
Getting deeper into appreciating jazz leads to amazing insights into the interplay between advanced players like these. Love those cats! Big love for Brecker.
Randy Brecker just did an event with the local community college and the director of jazz at my college (Cuesta community and Cal Poly SLO, respectively) and it was amazing. Brecker is amazing. Love his sound and his compositions.
Crazy to think but this guy LB is as good as any sax player who has come before as far as I can tell. He’s completely assimilated all the language and does everything flawlessly. I don’t know what else you could ask for 🤷🏻♂️
I loved it!!! Randy's playing is still amazing. For Chad its like a toy, he's got some much harmonic, soul and technical ability he's just playing with it. He's amazing The drummer and bass are outstanding and the Emmet's piano playing just blew me away.... Thanks guys for making this.....It totally made my day!!!!!
Listening with headphones its so funny when they play the theme how the audio just dont wanna match to the persons and instruments in your brain because they are panned the oposite way of how they‘re standing
What makes Randy a true heavyweight is that he combined awesome technique and yet he can still growl and get dirty .Plus don't forget he's a Philly boy and I lived in Philly 20 years and if you can survive living in Philly as a musician you're a bad mama jammer I had to dodge bullets going to jazz clubs just to make 50 bucks playing in a clubs Iike Gerts . I'm not much for playing a lot of standards because they're overplayed and if you're going to do a song like Cantaloupe Island or moaning if you don't kill it then you need to go home. Randy killed it .And trust me playing in a little cramped room for any musicians is tough because you have no natural acoustics and everything's dry .But despite the odds they still sounded great .
I met Randy in Philly once, long time ago. He was on his way to a gig, had his trumpet. I was a teenager, starstruck. I stopped him and said hi, that I was a fan. He was nothing but nice to me, real cool, said he appreciates the love from fans. I'll never forget it.
Same as The Consouls who do incredible things with VGM and Pat Bartley's J-Music Ensemble - all criminally under-subscribed for the amount of talent in the performance. At least one day wjen they go viral we can boast that we were there from the beginning 😉
In contrast to the walls of sound created by Chad and Randy, Emmet's innings is full of light, air and space. Reminds me of Herbie, but Herbie is 80+ and Emmet is 30 - how does he take all that experience on board?
Love this!!!!! Can anyone explain why the trumpet players mouthpiece is slightly off center to his lips? I played french horn and started on trumpet to pick up the basics as they are very similar...anyway I am familiar with playing a brass instrument and I don't remember deviating from meeting the mouthpiece dead center.
