In these shows I see a re-occurring theme of 'I have this personality trait, and now I know I INHERITED THIS PERSONALITY TRAIT from so and so". This is an interesting topic that has solid backing with scientific studies. We can inherit personality traits, emotions, trauma, and general memory of how to survive in this world from the DNA of our parents. I remember an experiment where they took eggs from the cold north (where food was scarce) and the warm south (where food was plentiful) of the same species of bird and hatched them in a lab. They presented the birds with a simple food puzzle. The birds from the south (where food was plentiful) could not figure out the puzzle. The birds from the north (where food was scarce) were able to figure out the puzzle, implying they were born with a survival instinct belief that "You can find food, but you will often need to work for it".

There is an old Irish saying “Briseann an dúchas trí shúile an chait”…..Breeding breaks out through the eyes of a cat. Or as my dear Dad used to say “an ounce of breeding is worth a ton of feeding”.

This sounds like a lot of magical "horoscope" thinking.. "I'm this way because (insert ornately worded pseudoscience)". We dont inherit memories in our DNA... maybe some possible personality traits but some of that is nurture, not nature.

People like Martin Sheen show how real the connection is between USA and Europe. I hear so many Irish people cursing American people for claiming to be Irish. This quite plainly demonstrates that Charlie, Emilion and siblings' granny was Irish. They are pretty Irish if you ask me. Do all your parents / grandparents need to be of a particular place to claim that heritage ?
@bmorg5190

That’s because foreign people not from the United States just love bashing Americans for no reason.. I get tired of it because they act like everybody all 330 million Americans are one person when everybody acts differently. That’s just common sense but people somehow forget that when they are talking about Americans.

@@geoffpoole483 You are wrong my friend. Many Irish(from what is now the Republic of Ireland) fought with George Washington"s Continental Army. There was Irishmen at the Alamo. Over 200,000 Irishmen took part in the US Civil War. Over 30 Irishmen fell with Custer. The Irish have the most Medals of Honour of any ethnic group serving in the US Arned Forces. Millions of Americans can trace their lineage to every part of the island of Ireland. Scotch/Irish from Ulster do not have a monopoly of this ancestry.

Is that song, “ North And South Of The River” about the IRA ?
@niffernurse

Not really, it’s about the entire Irish peace process, and the complex relationship between the Protestant and Catholic, Loyalist and Republicans, and the Republic and Norther Ireland itself. Competing goals, one island. 32 counties. It’s to complicated to say its “about the IRA.”
