Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell’s performance on Austin City Limits in 1982 was nothing short of perfection. This show was the first time that Emmylou had made an appearance on ACL, and it was also Rodney’s debut as well as his last time performing with the Cherry Bombs before launching a solo career. That year, a skyline backdrop of Austin was added to the set. The addition of the skyline was a huge hit with the viewers. Producer Terry Lickona also made the decision to have John Mills record the opening theme instead of using “London Homesick Blues,” which was the original opening theme. The year 1982 was a big year for music. It saw the release of “Fool Hearted Memory” by George Strait, “Cherokee Fiddle” by Johnny Lee, and “A Country Boy Can Survive” by Hank Williams Jr. This was also the year of popular movies like “Rocky III,” “Night Shift,” and “The Soldier.”👍
she & Gram Parsons made such a beautiful couple; were in love with each other, were planning marriage. Then he overdosed in '73. She is another gem from our so-blessed BOOMER generation, incredibly talented & highly intelligent. Isn't she so beautiful? Today-2024---she amongst so many has aged the most remarkably. See her & see that she has gotten even more beautiful than ever!
I saw Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, & Vince Gill all on stage at American legion post 82 in 2019. She is my favorite singer. What a night. What a performance. She left the stage with such evasive skill my attempt to waylay her and express my undying love for her was thwarted. She then retreated to the rear of the room. Brendan the host was talking to her. Then a fan was wearing her out. When he left I made my move. Her tall friend was standing with his back to the wall and she very pointedly was almost up against him with her back to everyone. I could sense she wanted to be left alone but my cause had to be advanced. I stood behind her and tapped her on the shoulder once...twice... ignored. I pressed my attack with a third tap. I saw her friend give her a look and point my way as to indicate with a shrug that I wasn't going away. She turned her heavenly face to me and I grasped her hand in mine. I said" thank you so much for doing this. Thank you so much for doing this. You sing so good. You're so pretty. I love you so much. I love you so much" in a plaintive heart felt tone. I held her hand throughout. Upon "you're so pretty" she made the sweetest little sound and teared up a little. I walked away as soon as my words had finished. Hand to god that's how it happened. I held the Woman's hand and she wept as I looked into her eyes. I'll never forget any of it. What a night
I snuck backstage after a concert in Cleveland in 1991 to meet her. I waited until all of the radio contest winners and others had gotten their photos and autographs. It was just me, a female assistant, and Emmy Lou. I strarted crying and couldn’t say anything. 😂 But, I did meet her 2 times in the years after that and we laughed about it 🙂
Dude, you might be alright, but you'd do well to use your imagination, & consider the years of this & the position it is to be a female, & be pressed by the masses & strangers all the time... this was really selfish of you. I highly doubt your remark was the impetus for her tears- she knows she's pretty, even at an advanced age.... maybe there was no tear at all, just a glint b/c of lighting... either way- check yourself... it's great you're so thrilled about her work & a fan- but come on- she's just a woman you don't know, & more importanly - doesn't know you. Hey, I'm sure all the praise is good to hear, & artists love to be accepted & praised for their creations & performances- but literally tapping her on the shoulder after a big show w/ loads of people? That's SO selfish, & from her perspective- a violation of space. It surely would be to me, even if it was a hot female... of course, do to southern manners, which Emmylou likely ha, I'd be cordial: but I'd instantly be very on guard. And I'm a man. Good grief if you thought that your story would receive admiration or applause you for recording this experience & event in her life. Look, it took boldness, & I give you that. And it was likely all very sincere & pure- but if I was famous... I might have have decked you, even if you were telling me how much you love me. "Boundaries", by Dr's Cloud & Townsend, would be a good read for anyone, but at this juncture- you.
The beginning of the end of austin. This is when they started pimpinhg out the best of the best. Too bad they couldn't leave well enough, aione. It was heaven on earth in the 70s. Now it's any city USA. Love ELH, but dam i miss Austin.
J'aime beaucoup Hank di Vito sur sa Steel guitar Emmon's...3/5 extensed j'aime bcp la sonorité qu'il utilise .....mon grand regret est de ne pas avoir pu aller tous les voir jouer .....avec Albert Lee...
This seems to be the best quality of sound and video for this concert on YT, so thanks. I love the "renegade" kind of raspy and ethereal Emmylou here. I was a rocker and bought Elite Hotel because of local "progressive rock" FM station WJLN in Birmingham, AL turning me on to Emmylou with the cuts they played from Elite Hotel. Thus began a long and enduring love of her music. I had only heard James Taylor's version of Millworker until this video and I might like this version even better which says a lot since I found that song as Taylor performed it really moving as related to my own factory experience and in my mind conjuring an earlier time when the factory was, perhaps, the only choice for so many hapless workers during the industrial revolution.
I had a chance to chat for a couple of minutes with Miss Emmy right about this time after a terrific Hot Band show in Vermont. She was so gracious, kind, and patience! Thank you your time, Emmy, and thank you for all your beautiful music. I miss GP, too. ❤️🤗
🇺🇸 🌐 🎶 🕰️ Emmylou is the Best thang ever to come outa Alabama..... ... I saw her show in OKC about this time frame @ Graham Central Station. ♠️🎸🎱🥁🎹❤️ "Two mo bottles a wine" was the first tune I heard her sing N I was hooked, Boomer Sooner!
Our emotions are a reflectom of our thoughts. We love because God first loved us. We don't pray to change God's mind. God opens our heart in prayer so we can align our heart with God's will. ❤
I'll tell you about this show. In the 1980s, I was in my 30s. It was a terrible time. No spousal prospects at all after years of hoping and trying. This show usually aired on Sunday night, and back then cable was not on the radar for most people. So, when a young person made it through another disappointing weekend, ALONE, seeing this show come on the air was confirmation of another failed week in the dating game. If you had nothing better to do on a Sunday evening than find yourself watching public television for a music show with music you didn't even like, you knew life was pretty much as mediocre as it can get. Lots of bad memories around Austin City Limits. Now, 45 years later, things still haven't changed, except I don't watch public television on Sunday nights anymore. Now I surf youtube for camping adventures. And oh, by the way, my little Jack Russell Penelope is all the company I need, thank you very much. The forced MGTOW was ok after all.
@@markpaulick262 You completely missed the point of my comments. The point was how sad life was at that time realizing that when you end an empty, lonely weekend watching something on public television, you know your life is over. As far as pbs goes? It is a leftist, communist cesspool of BS.
6th Avenue i have heard is the heart of country western, NOT Nashville. Austins not dead, we said ' dont mess with Texas love it or lose iyyit. Ule be better just listening!!😮💘
It's funny that Emmylou's band was still called the Hot Band by this time, as all but one of its original members had jumped ship to Rodney Crowell's band. Maybe the Reckard Crew would have been a better name.
