Tyler Perry told an emotional and reflective story during his speech for the Governors Award during the 2020 Emmys. The mogul recalled a quilt his grandmother gave him when he was 19 that he really didn’t care for, and explained why he grew to cherish the quilt after learning to appreciate the significance behind it. Perry also shared a powerful memory about his parents, who reminded him to chase his dreams and not wait for anyone to hand it to you. Today, Perry stands proud of his many accomplishments because they’re inclusive of all people and rich with diversity.
