Emmys 2024 Recap: Shogun Dominates, Hacks Pulls an Upset! 

Shogun getting the Emmys record is so well-deserved. Literally everyone should watch this show TODAY.

When Catherine O'Hara ripped the envelope, I legitimately thought that we're about to enter to another envelope mixed up at an award show and Catherine being so professional to not mess it up 😂😂

Jean Smart in TV is what Meryl Streep is to movies aswell as Audra McDonald in theater. Beloved by so many people, win an award for her well deserving work. It's her sixth win and she's still unbeatable, Hacks is so lucky to have Jean. I hope this Emmy win could encourage people to start binge watch Hacks. Trust me guys, it's freaking worth it 🙌

The Bear didn’t want to go up against Succession and now they don’t want to go up against Shogun lol

Between Baby Reindeer (Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series), Shōgun (Outstanding Drama Series), and Hacks (Outstanding Comedy Series) taking home the biggest award of the night, this might be the happiest I've been for an Emmy result in quite a while

It's funny. Many years ago, if you watched the Emmy awards, they would run clips of shows and you'd say, "I didn't see that one. That really looked good. I wished I could have seen that when it aired." Now, when you can easily stream all the shows that get nominated for Emmys, you don't get to see clips that might get you interested.

So happy for Elizabeth Debicki. I may not be a fan of the last season of The Crown but she was absolutely by far the best part of it. She came a long way from appearing in a small role as Daisy Buchanan's best friend in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and here she is now collecting multiple trophies for her incredible work as Diana in The Crown 🙌

I hope the award shows does reunions a lot more in presenting awards. The reunions in this year's Emmy are some of my favourite highlight. We got reunions of "The West Wing", "Happy Days", "Miami Vice", "Y Tu Mamá También", and finally saving the best for last a "Schitt's Creek" reunion. I hope someday, we could get a "Succession" reunion at the Emmys soon

I'll never understand how "The Bear" is considered a comedy.

Eugene and Dan Levy were hilarious and charming but the real funny bit for me was when Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez as the Only Murders In The Building trio (don't worry guys, someday you will win an Emmy for your work on that series) presented the first award with a "Shingles Doesn't Care" meme whenever Martin and Steve teased each other 😅 I love the trio but Martin and Steve as a comedic duo seriously never gets old. For the love of god, i need this trio to host the Emmys or Oscars please!!!!

I was going to leave a comment everytime I had a thought about a nominee, winner, or just anything that happened while I watched the video, but I realized that would be an insane thing to do.

It is crazy how a show like Shogun can be the record setting Emmy show and yet for a lot of people out there it’s not even a blip on their radar as far as something they’ve watched or even considered to watch. You’d think shows as big as Game of Thrones or other big name popular IP’s would’ve gotten that record. I cannot express how much you should be watching the show. It deserves every one of the awards.🙏

Jodie Foster won an Oscar for playing a detective in "Silence Of The Lambs". Now, she just won an Emmy for playing a detective in "True Detective Night Country". At this point, somebody on Broadway should create a detective stage play with Jodie in the lead so she could get a Tony Award win 😂😂 Seems like a pattern that every time Jodie played a detective, she's going to win an award. Also, hard to believe that for her calibre, this was her first Emmy win. I could've sworn she won previously

Oliver and Stewart both winning is hilarious and the other hosts will never let it down. Kimmel even said "you said you were retiring" to Stewart lol

You’re totally right. If I was a comedy actor who kept losing to actors in a non comedy show, I’d be pissed. It’s just disrespectful to the art. Like when The Martian was in the Musical/Comedy category… wtf was that all about?

Hacks' win at the end was a surprise but definitely a welcome on especially when it was up against The Bear. An ACTUAL comedy series wins an Outstanding Comedy Series for the first time ever! I'm just happy for Hacks that just keeps getting better and better and it was the right move for the Emmys to win Hacks

I literally just watched it a couple weeks ago and my god what an incredible production, the only show i've ever watched where it ended and I turned around and thought "man... I want to watch that again."

Have I watched ANY of these shows, no. Will I watch Dans recap, OF COURSE!

The Bear is not comedy. Every other meme, references, shorts, jokes made outside the show were all hella funny. But that still doesn't mean the source material was a Comedy!! That will remain a mystery in many years to come. Probably be featured in Unsolved Mysteries.

When Dan said "Not just to present the Emmy but also to fight Darkseid along with the Amazons of Themyscira" @ 11:42, I had to do a double take and paused the video, thinking _What is he talking about?_ It took me a while to realize the choice of having a metallic chest plate piece on an evening gown may be considered a fashion faux pas. I have no fashion sense so I didn't notice anything until Dan pointed it out. Oh, and I'm really happy _Baby Reindeer_ won. Best Netflix show I watched since _Dark_ .

Finally, Slow Horses won something HUGE at the Emmys. One of the most underrated series running right now and it's about time the Emmys recognise it's work for whatever category they want the series to win Although, I waited for this win more on the writer, Will Smith to clarified his name on stage rather than the series' actual win. Glad that it was worth it 😅

I think that an even recent comparison was SUCCESSION. That was more of a dark comedy/satire and even more suited to the comedy category. THE BEAR is in comedy to avoid tougher competition.

Loved Shogun and Hacks well deserved. Glad that the Emmy voters recognized more series, 9 different won last night.

I'm very bummed that Hannah Einbinder who was absolutely terrific in Hacks season 3 lost the category to an actress who (despite her incredible talent in The Bear) won for the wrong category that the Emmys gave. That's just not fair 😔

7:15 Carmy and Syd make a joke about inviting her Mom for the preview, but then Syd tells him she can't invite her, she'd dead, and Carmy kinda laughs and says "thats a good reason not to invite her" or something like that, closest I got

I like they’re now having mini reunions when presenting awards and less of the awkward forced banter between two celebrities that have never met before 😂

I know the Bear is upsetting people, but I live in the same area as Matty Matheson (he has a restaurant like 20 min from me) and all the success is just bringing so much joy to our small Canadian town

If Steve Carell never won for The Office, The Bear should not have one.

A comedy show won for Best Comedy! I love The Bear, but the producers and the Emmy board need to stop letting it compete as a comedy so it can win easily. They need to nut up and put it against dramas and let the comedy shows have their night.

Shogun winning was awesome, it’s one of the best regular TV shows I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve got it as my number 2 of the year for my tv list so far, but with Bleach and DanDaDan just around the corner, it may bump down to a number 4 spot 😅 let’s see what happens. Either way this years been good for TV 🔥

Shogun, Baby Reindeer and The bear have been some of my favs this year.. Fargo has also staying strong.. and good year for adult animation with Blue Eye Samurai and Scavengers Reign!

I was rooting for Abbot Elementary but so happy that any show other than The Bear won. It is not a comedy.

I’m so happy Best Writing for a Drama series went to Slow Horses. The dialogues in that show are incredible.

I love _The Bear_ and _Shogun,_ but it is suspicious that _The Bear_ is designated as a comedy series. Especially considering both series are Disney products and the Emmys are broadcasted on ABC, a Disney owned network.

Just glad Slow Horses got something big with Writer Will Smith winning Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series as the show seriously needs more love/exposure!

Thank you for making that Sopranos/Bear comparison!!! ❤ I have thought that from the very beginning. The Sopranos has a very sitcom-like format and has really funny moments in every episode, but it isn't a comedy at all.

Regarding the late night talk shows. It's gotten to the point that i kind of DON'T want other shows to win. Every talkshow host has a running joke about 'we all show up, have a great time and John wins' I watched an interview with Trevor talking about winning. He was chatting with his seat mates and they said hey isn't this your category, Trevor replied its OK i dont need to pay attention, John always wins anyway.

FX has come along way from being the American Horror Story/Archer/Justified channel

Personally, I think The Bear is a comedy (think Measure for Measure, or Chekhov’s plays-or Samuel Beckett). I think the issue is that the Emmy categories aren’t actually very helpful.

Slow Horses is one the funniest show on television 😂. Don't know why it on the drama category. Gary Oldman is having a blast with it.

THE BEAR IS NOT A COMEDY. This cannot be stated enough.

I had been saying for months now that if Anna Sawai didn't win an Emmy, what are we even doing? So so happy for her win!! (She's also great in Pachinko, fyi.) Also, shouts to the wins for Blue Eye Samurai which is an amazing show, particularly "The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride" which is one of the things it won for.

Overall I thought it was a great ceremony. My one gripe was theme songs of shows playing before cutting for commercials. I got so excited when hearing the theme songs for Living Single, True Blood and Gilmore Girls. I thought the casts were going to present, but it just went to commercial. What a tease.

I don't think there should be Shogun S2. The 1st season was sooo memorable expecially in the end.

Still can't believe Netflix's One Day didn't get a single Emmy nom and I better see Interview with the Vampire season 2 snatch all the Emmys next year, especially after the Academy pointedly ignored their first season which was some of the best television of the last decade. Mark my words. Just because it's a genre tv show can't be used as an excuse anymore.

The 2019s Lion King is live action then The Bear is a comedy. Thats "how people commonly categorize it."

We just started watching Hacks this summer and it's amazing. Maybe it's just content overload but it's wild how few people I know that hadn't even heard of it.

I watched the entire Emmys and honestly I thought it was bit boring.

John Oliver is in that category because he preforms a script in front of a live audience like SNL. If he did bring on a guest, it would be an entirely different show. It’s not a talk show that happens to have no guests, it’s not a talk show.

Didn’t even know it happened tbh. Didn’t see anyone talking about it.

Shogun absolutely deserved everything it won. And I am so excited we are getting more seasons.

My only take is Tadanobu Asano should have won. He was easily the best acted and most complexed character by far on Shogun. I loved his character.

I just realized that I apparently watch no good TV, other than occasional clips from The Daily Show and Last Night with John Oliver on RU-vid. I had not even heard of most of these shows and don't know where to find them.

I know this was for season 2 of the bear which was good for a drama but next awards should give zero to season 3 which was pretentious drivel (except for Tina’s job search episode)

I don't understand why people are surprised that Hacks "beats" The Bear for best comedy. 1. Hacks is a real comedy and Bear is a drama that labels itself as comedy and remains unchecked. 2. Hacks season 3 is on fire; everyone is at their best, everything zings. In fact, I love The Bear so much that I think season 2 of The Bear in the drama category would give Shogun a run of its money.

Thank you, The Bear is NOT a comedy! It is a wonderful show. Season 2 was arguably it's best so far but not a comedy. WWDTS is a comedy.
