What a fantastic and moving car story. This is the kind of thing that separates your channel from the other car stuff on RU-vid. There's an honest beauty in the human stories you show along with the cool cars. Love it and keep it up!
Tim, that's really kind. We have a cool little team of talent on TLBS who make Jonny look and sound good. But it's almost always the emotional back stories to these wonderful barnfinds.
I’ve watched too many car reviews, but I must say Jonny has incredible access to really great machines, but he never makes it snobby. Keep it classy TLBS
That Jonny, was compulsive viewing. Helen is a wonderful lady. A great story - beautifully filmed and produced. You just keep getting better. Thank you.
What an amazing human being helen is , im only 10 mins and she has me hanging on her every word, each time she mentions Kevin's name you can hear the heartache in her voice and it transends through the video, we all have lost someone we love so can identify with helen , thank you so much ❤️
@@TheLateBrakeShow. Hey Johnny check the comments the pimp mobile is a live and well as a weekend rally car. It’d be cool to connect Helen and the current owner maybe do and episode on it mate.
Jonny. Loved every second of this... Even your Huggy Bear spec pimp coat. Helen actually brought a tear to my eyes when talking so lovingly of Kevin and his Dad..... Epic video Jonny.
What a genuinely heartwarming show. The scenery, Helen and of course the SC. I hope she gets it going and enjoys driving it herself around those wonderful Welsh lanes.
A wonderful episode Jonny, thank you. A brilliant Part 2 would a return to Wales with you and Helen taking Kevin’s car out for a drive after it’s recommissioning.
What a beautifully put together episode Jonny. Love a BF, but even more so when you get a gem like this one! Top work! Cried when Helen was reminiscing about her losses and the memories. I am sure that 911 shall fight to live another day. I drive by an TR6 parked in front of an house everyday, it's never once moved in the last few years I've been going by. Thank you for bringing us these episodes. ❤️
I just absolutely love this show...thank you for creating this format even though you have done things like fifth gear. Kudos on keeping it fresh without too much...everything around it. Overkill is overrated. Yes it is his job, but you can genuinely see that he loves cars and specially cares about the story and the connections of the car. And that`s one of my favorite things on this show. Keep it up.
As good as Jonny is (and he is awesome), these vids always come to life when we here from the owner, regardless of how embarrassed or camera shy they are (Helen was non of those).
Another absolutely spot on video Jonny. You have a great way of bringing the life stories to the front of your barn finds which gives these videos so much more heart. There is a story attached for all of us that have a passion for cars, which is why these videos really touch a chord. Would be great to see both these cars running again.
Such a heart warming barn find! There's so much I can relate to Helen and her family, coming from near Bham, part moving to mid/north Wales in the late 80s when I was very young with my parents. Sadly, my father passed suddenly having just celebrated his 50th in 1989, leaving my dear mum to balance both lives we had in the Midlands and Wales, the latter being a slate miners cottage in the mountains which took a serious amount of work. As a 9 year old, I really had to grow up quick to support her. I do sorely miss all the good years and memories that were taken away from us. My dad and his family were huge car fanatics too. I lost that mentor and personality that could have guided me in life. One can never be bitter about a bad situation though, life is hard and you have to make best with what you have. Helen, if you do happen to read this, please, please hold on to that car dearly. Get it running, fix it's faults and drive it when you want to be close to your husband - his soul is always with you. My dad has been by my side for 34 years now even though I barely remember him - but I do always wish I had one of his cars to keep running, it would feel like I was keeping him alive somehow. Bless you and your life to come Xx
What a lovely comment thank you. We would love to keep the car as it’s got so many memories. Unfortunately it’s going to get sold to fund my house which is going to be the barn you see in the background. Say to see it go but it will have gone to a good cause to make new memories
@@jamescorbett95able good luck wit the sale.... I'm sure Jonny will have guided you to Car and Classic and you could do a lot worse! Plenty of views on there and with a bit of support from Jonny on his socials, you are sure to do well. Good luck with the sale/build
@@jamescorbett95able James, my heart goes out to you mate, I totally understand your position. We had to sell everything of value (including the cottage in Wales 😥) to sustain life at that time. It's such a shame you can't have both, but needs must. Sending you all the luck with your house build, I'm stuck in the middle of one myself. Make sure contractors don't waste the precious funds from the car. Plan, plan and plan before you spend. It will be amazing :)
Love to see the 911 running I was 18 and working at a Porsche garage in 1978, Dick Lovett Specialist cars, so brings home memories of driving Porsches around the yard and workshop. Agree great to see the TR6 in detail and possibly running soon.
“Have I enjoyed this episode?” Off course I have Jonny, every episode I think, you’ve excelled yourself there. They just get better and better. Your ability to tell a story in such a sympathetic way treating the people you meet so nicely allowing them to speak is fantastic. Tbh I doubt the pimp story will ever be beaten😂. I wish Helen all the best with the Porsche and sincerely hope she manages to keep it in the family.
Lovely story and film. Two fantastic cars. I had a TR6 which I loved and presently a Carrera 4S 997.2 and felt for Johnny trying all sorts to get the Porsche running. So many memories lifted into life from Helen triggered my own fond days gone by thoughts. Thank you 🙂 Maybe there should be a “Where are they now” car seeker facility.
Best car show on RU-vid!!!! Absolutely love the channel and especially this show specifically. Keep up the outstanding work and it's extremely appreciated sir!!!
Watching this on Monday after a rather shitty day, What a heartwarming story told so beautifully by Helen and Jonny. What a beautiful old Porsche. I just love these barn finds and this one is one of the best. Please please can will have a follow up. Pretty Please.
this is just great , i just love peoples emotions and mechanical connection when the car turns over , the joy of it ! , this is one very important thing we will lose with electric cars , we cannot allow that to happen .... and we wont , Great work Johnny man
All class. While you didn’t get it fully fired up, you went over and above in his ep. And it’s great that Helen’s “ride that got pimped” is still about, with the current owner’s family in the comments.
What a lovely lady and nice story which resonates with me also due to my fathers passing. Kevin sounded like a great man. Great job Jonny and rip Kevin.
What a great story. Great effort of all three of yous to try to that lovely 78 Porsche up and running again. What a lovely woman and a great story teller Helen is. ❤️🙂. Well done again Johnny. 👍
One of the most refreshing motoring journalists are you johnny. Beats all that clap trap top gear, loved your commentary on fith gear as well. Love the MST thing and my dream car from them mk1 in mex delivery. Well done😍
Not only is barn find amazing, the way, people with all those memories of life, in those cars fully trust you. Helen is a Gem of a lady, one or if not one of the best barn finds 👌🏽
What a wonderful lady, Helen is. The car is so cool and interesting, but the human story was so much more compelling. I definitely didn't cry 😢 honest. ❤
As always Jonny, you are a true gentleman. I for one, would love to re-visit Helen, and take another stab at getting the Porsche going for her! I think it would absolutely make her day!
I just loved this video, its the connection we have we cars that stand the test of time. They are not just lumps of steel and i think only car or motorbike people get that. Brilliantly filmed as well.
What a beautiful little Porsche. So unfortunate you didn’t get it running for Helen. Although, I can’t see it being off the road for long. Lots of positives to take from it & hopefully just a filter issue. Fantastic viewing as always, Mr Smith.
I'm really enjoying the barn find series. It's great that you make the videos about the car and the people and let them tell their stories, exactly how it should be.
Super episode, Johnny! @The Late Brake Show It was lovely to see Helen rooting for the car to start! These are the moments that make certain cars special. The 911 is such a beautiful machine. And this one, with that interior/exterior combo, is top notch! Great job, Johnny!
Brilliant episode again You tried so hard and the lady would be so happy seeing it cleaned up and shinning in the sunshine bringing back so many memories. Hope the car is driving around soon Good luck Brilliant Jonny :)
Great video and very moving… I’ve acquired a 1984 911 Targa after a life changing illness.. currently working through it to get it all good. That car is in mint condition and will be a beauty once sorted
When I saw James, I thought you were having a laugh. He looks So much like the young picture of the late owner. And I thought there might be a mountain biker in the family when I saw the helmets hanging. Well done Sir!
Looking at the seats in the 911 and they have barely changed. My 2001 911 had leather but the same shaped seats, and same bolsters. “Can of Hope”. That’s beautiful. I’m a Porsche guy so watching this beautiful SC get pushed out of the garage and given a little bath was awesome. He paid 8k lbs and today it will go for 50k.
For some, cars are inextricably linked to our life story. Like a record from decades ago, a tune that evokes memories and feelings, cars have soul, at least for now, and we really love them.
Pure class Johnny and Helen God bless her, what a beautiful lady ,great find again mate wish all concerned a great future 👍, Helen bless her soul made me laugh when she told the story about the RS then she brought me too tears when her voice cracked when she was talking about her husband Kevin sadly passing. 😥 ❤❤❤
Felt compelled to comment here as well as on IG. This is overall my favorite YT show. The cars bind us, but it’s really the stories isn’t it? They remind us that while each of our stories is unique, they are all immediately and intimately relatable.
Thank you v much AB. Yes, the stories are often as interesting (and more emotional) than the metal itself. We are always striving to bring that to light in these films. Glad you enjoy the show.
Fantastic episode with a fantastic car and a fantastic human story. I must say, when Jonny said that the puddle on the floor wasn't oil, I did think "well then there's no oil in it" because there isn't a 911 SC in the world that doesn't drop oil!
Helen's car back story was pretty cool the pimp and all and how she ended up in her current home! I am thinking the Porsche wouldn't take that much to get going. I hope Johnny does a follow up video!
Great video, fabulous back story and wonderful cars. Was I the only one who got Bad Teacher vibes when Jonny was washing the 911? Though he's no Cameron Diaz!
love those wheels.... in fact, the car is in such amazing condition, such a shame it didn't get driven much. thanks for sharing another great barn find vid !
As has been stated already the oil has, over time, drained into the sump and must be removed BEFORE refilling the tank and trying to start the engine. If not there will be twice the correct amount of oil in the car and there is a very real risk of damage or at least a hell of a mess.
