I'm an older brother too & I'm glad they made this scene. It easily makes me reflect on my younger brother, ross. Ross Macartney. And how well hes turned out. I'm proud of him. He was just like dil; a sweet, cute, adorable little baby. A younger child with blonde hair, able to speak, etc. Just wonderful ❤
I watched this movie when I was líke 4yo and this scene made me cry. I watched today after 14 years and again make me cry.... I have only cried twice with movies..
I’m 23 years old, but I will never stop ugly crying after watching this scene. I have a younger brother and sister, so I relate to Tommy on so many levels. I’m especially really close with my younger brother since we’re only two years apart. He gets my nerves like every sibling does, but he is my best friend and my partner in crime for everything. I love my brother and sister very much
My brother and I fought a lot when we were younger too. He still annoys me sometimes (without meaning to), but we are more like partners in crime fighting these days

You’re quite right, I think if Tommy hadn't given Dil a taste of his own medicine, Dil probably wouldn't have turned a leaf until further down the line. I think this made Dil realise he needed Tommy for survival until they were back home. It changed both brothers for the better.
Whilst Tommy’s outburst was scary, it made Dil realise the error of his ways and changed him for the better. After reconciling with Tommy, he learned to share and won the trust and respect of Phil, Lil & Chuckie.
It was very sweet that after Tommy helps dil go to sleep and wiping his tears and nose, dil looks up to Tommy in admiration and takes his hand in a less spoiled tone says, “my Tommy” and Tommy says “my dil”
I love this scene. It distinctly reminds me of us, me & my younger brother despite our petty little rows. I was just like tommy. At first I thought, having a baby brother was hard but then I discovered there was some room in my heart for him👦 ❤👶🧒And as we grew up together, I consider my brother one of the best things that ever happened to me. Tommy's father, stu told him that one day, he will love dil as his brother & stick by his side. My dad was just the same. He told me to love, respect & trust my little brother & so I will. I too will make a swell, big brother. I already am 😁👦❤🧒
Didn't blame tommy for snapping like that, still being a baby himself lost in the woods, changing dil's diaper, taking abuse from dil, going after & saving dil from the monkeys & dil just laughed that tommy risked his own life to save dil, he did learn to be nice quickly though, that reptar wagon did save them
I do have to agree, up until this stage Dil was an incredibly selfish and greedy little brat, didn't care about a thing Tommy did for him and just used and abused him. When Tommy finally lost patience, snapped and nearly gave up on Dil for good by abandoning him to the monkeys, it frightened Dil enough to finally make him see sense. After that Dil was much more respectful of Tommy and was more selfless. In real life, this probably would never happen. But let's remember this is a fictional story with intelligent toddlers and babies. Dil was, just to begin with, a selfish intelligent baby 😂, after the experience of being lost in the forest he was a selfless intelligent baby.
As Dil couldn't speak, I'll try to make out what he was trying to say in those emotional scenes. At 2:50, Dil began to cry and realised Tommy was trying to abandon him for his selfishness, at 3:00, Dil is trying to say, "I'm really sorry Tommy, please give me a second chance" and at 3:14, Dil is trying to say, "I forgive you, Tommy". I'm probably wrong, but just guessing.
I can understand Tommy's frustrations with Dil. I have a little brother and there were times when he made me angry because he was being difficult, but at the end of the day, we do care about each other.
I remember when I first watched this movie. Wasn't older than seven years old, but this scene struck something in me that was really profound. I saw myself in Tommy. I have a younger sister and I was, as all toddlers are, putting her through hell. But seeing Dil being so scared of Tommy, the wrongness of it all, how it's not supposed to be like that... It crushed me. I started crying a lot there. Cried a lot that night, and I still do whenever I watch this scene. Siblings are a hassle, your parents split their love and you feel like they're taking something away. But hating them to this degree and enjoying their tears (when you're old enough to have a conscience) is... it's not right. And Rugrats presented it so well and in such a poignant way. It's just a banana cream in a jar, but the whole malice in Tommy's face is terrifying. And Dil's realisation that his brother might actually wish to hurt him is incredibly sad.
Tommy is a sensible, older brother saying things a grown up would say when a child is misbehaving "Stop it! That's enough!" He probably meant dil has drank enough.
One thing I like is how Dil suddenly went from being a selfish, greedy, unreasonable, brazen, spoilt brat to becoming very timid and fearful. I think it's fair to say Tommy unwittingly found Dil’s weak spot.
This was the very first movie I ever saw in theaters. I remember my mom took me and my brother. I was really excited when I picked out my candy (it was those snow-cap chocolates). This scene still gets the tears forming in my eyes.
I know it's a baby cartoon and the babies are well aware of what they are doing but glad Tommy taught Dill a lesson because Dill was nice all of a sudden after the fact..lol
@natty8857 Yeah, exactly what you said! It can be very annoying sometimes, but babies just do that stuff! He had no ill intentions and most likely didn't even know that what he was doing was wrong. A lot of babies tend to take toys because they want it and not because they know it makes their siblings upset. Or if they knock over some toys their older siblings had, they laugh because the toys fall down and not because their siblings are upset. As I said, it doesn't make it any less annoying, especially to a big sibling, but it's just a baby thing!

Tommy is also smart & wise & comes up with great ideas. His wee brother, dil "dilly" 😆 is very cute, sweet & adorable despite his naughty, spoiled behaviour.
Y'know, I've seen many people say that Dil was a jerk as a baby and he knew what he was doing when he did all that stuff to the other Rugrats in the first Movie.. And Y'know what? I half agree that Dil knew what he was doing in plenty of cases, but not in the way many say, which was because he was being selfish. Like, yes, he meant to do some things that he did wrong, but not because he was purposely being selfish and doing it to make the others mad. For example, there had been a few times, especially at the start, where Dil hit Tommy with a rattle because he wanted some of Tommy's things. He probably wasn't even aware they were Tommy's and when he was told about it, he may not have believed him, thinking that it was his own either because he was given it or because it interested him. As a result, he decided that hitting him with the rattle would be the only way to keep what he THOUGHT was his, and wasn't doing it because he knew Tommy would be upset at him. And in the scene before Tommy was fed up, where they were fighting over a blanket, in particular where he laughed at Tommy for falling down, he only laughed because he fell down, not because he knew he hurt him and made him upset. A lot of babies tend to do that with their older siblings. They tend to take toys because they want it and not because they know it makes their siblings upset. It's very annoying to their older siblings, but they're in no way doing it out of selfish motive. (Speaking as someone with a little brother)
At the beginning, Dil was indeed a very naughty baby but that doesn't mean the family wants rid of him. it was phil & lil's idea to take dil back to the hospital (which obviously won't even work 😆). If they hadn't drove off in the reptar wagon in the first place, they wouldn't be in this mess.

Ok so when I was a kid watching the scene it made feel very frustrated and sad for tommy. Like I low key hated dil even in the show all grown up ( I guess my hatred carried). In the end everything became ok but idk this scene just made me feel some type of way. After reading the comments I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. I wouldn’t say I was traumatized but this scene just stuck with me.
The Reason Dil is The New Born Baby Dil Has The Right To Tell Tommy But Dil Would Have Said To Tommy “ I’m Sorry Tommy But I’m New To The Family I Want You To Accept That I will Always Be Your Baby Brother I Love You Tommy”
Dil did not change it that moment, he was scared of the Thunder, and his instincts told him to stick with the guy pulling him around. Tommy should of did it
As this is a fictional story, these babies are far more intelligent and clever than babies in real life. In real life, all of us are born selfish naturally, but we do improve on it as we age. Based on that, my view is Dil was capable of being good from the day he was born, he just wanted to be more like Angelica; a selfish, greedy, spoilt little brat. Tommy stuck by Dil despite his selfishness and greed, and because of that, Dil still continued with his antics until Tommy finally lost patience and nearly finished with him for good, that it scared him enough to change him from bad to good. Dil then realised it was not the time to be playing silly beggars. Had Tommy not nearly given up on Dil for good, it may have taken him longer to change. I think Stu's pep talk with Tommy was proven correct, by persevering with Dil, he would eventually change for the better. I think when Dil realised Tommy was about to give up on him, that's what sparked him to turn a new leaf.
(All Grown Up! Tommy and Dil are watching this scene; Dil gives Tommy a dirty look) Tommy: What? What are you looking at me like that for? Hey, *I* didn't do anything. *You're* the one who wouldn't share, Dil. It's your own fault you almost got fed to monkeys. Dil: Yeah, right! All I did was laugh at your expense. Was that so bad? What’s sad is I think Dill knew what would have happened more than Tommy! I’m sure Tommy thought they monkeys would have just taken Dill because he had bananas on him, but that’s not an invention to a new friendship.
Tommy Should Have Respected The Facts When Dil Was The First Born Baby Brother To Tommy When Didi Pickles Had Tommy But Didi Pickles Told Stu That She Was Going To Have a Second Child That Made Tommy Discouraged and Left Out Yes it Was a Sad Feeling For Tommy But He Needs To Able To Take Responsibility For Dil Because Dil is Still a Baby and He Doesn’t Know What To Do He Doesn’t Know Any Better i Know it’s Kind Of Hard To Believe That Tommy is The One Who is Responsible For Dil That is Life
