Theon also touches me the most. I think because he is the most relatable of all the characters. We all make mistakes in life, regret things we've done, survive terrible experiences. we lose ourselves, break and fight our way back. We grow from our fates. theon represents life.

This was my favorite scene of that episode. Jorah is Daenerys best friend and I think it was a huge honor for him not only to protect her but also to fight together with her - side by side. It's so great to hear you sing the praises of Melisandre. She's one of the low key biggest MVPs of the series. Never selfish, never ulterior motives. Always in service of her ideals, even after she got it CATASTROPHICALLY wrong with Stannis. Like theon, you ache for her redemption when you see her grapple with the HUGE failure from making a mistake. LOVE Theon, LOVE Melisandre.

Melisandre wins my award for most interesting character. All the men on redemption arcs are forgiven for everything but the fandom is so unforgiving for Mel. The Night King wanted no part of a 1v1 duel, especially with Jon wielding V-steel. Apparently he was just as vulnerable to it as a common wight. All the white walkers are invulnerable to fire, they walked through it in Hardhome.
@frankiek2269
@frankiek2269 Год назад
Yes. But dragon fire is supposed to be far more powerful than regular fire. This was just poorly written on Martin’s part. Dragon glass is formed by dragon fire. And white walkers are vulnerable to that, but not to dragon fire itself? Just sh*tty writing. Very badly done. That’s the difference between sci-if and fantasy. Sci-fi has to be plausible while in fantasy you can make-up whatever the hell you want. “And the boy was going to be killed, but the common pebble he picked up actually is a magic pebble. And it turned into a shield surrounding the boy’s entire body, saving him.”
@herecomesthescience
@herecomesthescience Год назад
@@frankiek2269 Dragon Glass is just common obsidian, volcanic rock. They mention this in the show. It affects the White Walkers because the Children's magic that created them involved Dragon Glass. At least he didn’t lie. PR and his publisher told everyone when the first book was released in 2007 to his “Kingkiller Chronicles” that all three books were already written. Because they know a lot of ppl won’t start reading a trilogy until it has been completed. Yet it took him FOUR years to release the second novel. That doesn’t sound finished to me. And 12+ years later we are still waiting on the third. Over a F’ING decade, just like Martin.

When only Bran’s character can tie up the loose ends up the story. Aside from you already pointed out. Never forget Starks got their justice served to Baelish only because of Bran’s knowledge. Then, there’s Theon and Jaime, their arcs are complete because of Bran. In the books Arya was trained to become an assassin and take revenge for her family, she didn't even know about the white walkers. The show runners wanted to subvert expectations and destroyed the hero's journey by not having Jon kill the Night's king as foreshadowed, due to modern views on the white male savior trope. He was resurrected for a reason you know!!!! Jon's secret lineage didn't matter in the end, the prophecy went down the drain. All the build-up for nothing. Still angry about what they did to one of GRRM's main characters.

Targaryens are not immune to fire. Some of them thought they were, and died miserably for it. It is a Denaerys's thing; one time only (during the dragons' births) in books, a bad habit in the show. I dare to say Theon's narrative arc is the only one with a satisfying ending. Maybe also Jorah's, but only a little bit. I cried so much during Theon's death, but I still think the whole we-are-alone-in-the-garden situation is stupid. And Arya... I'm sorry to say she killing the Night King is simply outrageous to everyone who followed Jon's storyline. It makes no sense. In Italy, "morire per un colpo d'Arya" has become an infamous pun. Mellisandre... I love her. I just do. And we still know nothing - nothing - about her.

This episode felt weird to me for several reasons. There were a lot of stupid decisions by characters for plot reasons that made me bang my head against the wall from the start. Like sending your most vulnerable people to the crypt with the DEAD BODIES when the people who resurrect dead bodies are coming. Like just sending the horde of dothraki to their death and other dumb batttle decisions. How useless Jon and Dani on their dragons were and how boring and annoying that looked. How fucking dark it was. You have to be able to convey darkness and still allow your audience to fucking see what's going on. It didn't even feel like scary or eerie darkness to me. Just, again, annoying. I both liked and disliked the Arya thing. I would have liked it more if Jon had actually been useful in some other ways or had like another big moment instead of uselessly flopping around and dodging. Now it just felt unsatisfying and what was promised for 7 seasons wasn't delivered. Imagine if during the battle of the bastards, Jon wasn't able to breech the castle and instead Davos snuck on the roof and dropped a rock on Ramsey's head. It's satisfying to see him go down and it makes sense if you squint because Davos is a smuggler and can sneak into places buuuuuutttttt that's not how you wanna see it go down. The deaths were sad but there should have been more if we're honest. It's like the secondary of the secondary characters died but all the important ones survived because we still have half a season and other war to fight. At least one or two of the 'bigger' second tier characters should have died or even a huge main character. For The Big War with huge stakes, nobody ALL that important died except Theon and Jorah and like I said, even they are iike...small fish compared to some others.
@jcompton8507
@jcompton8507 Год назад
Yep. I'm also one of those people who can't ignore logic and just enjoy the spectacle. And so much of this episode didn't make sense: both in battle tactics and in storytelling. (It began with the Dothraki charge and just went downhill from there.) It's why I struggle BoB as well. So much artistry to be admired. Such a stupid battle. And I don't know who is more to blame for caring about what looks good more than what makes sense? D&D or Miguel? Actually, it must be D&D because Miguel was not involved in the Beyond the Wall episode in Season 7...

@SerbAtheist
@SerbAtheist Год назад
You're essentially projecting your expectations onto the show instead of taking the show on its own merit. You're not even paying attention to the story and what it's about. Your scenario would have actually been great for BoB instead of making it the most fan servicy and least realistic battle of the entire show. As for who survived, literally everyone had a role in the story to come.
@rl1171
@rl1171 Год назад
@@pajander I'm in total agreement with you, literally all the dothraki riders died but one hand Jamie survives, it's absurd - at least half of the cast should have died in this battle including John.
@freeloadingmf
@freeloadingmf Год назад
@@SerbAtheist Jamie's story was reversing his character development by going back to Cersei to die in her arrms. Would have been better if he died any other way in the great war. Or better yet, Dany should have fried him with his dragon like realistically should have happened in that battle. The great thing about game of thrones was that characters who seemingly had endless more story to tell unexpectedly died because that's the realistic move.

Jon's role was to occupy the Dragon. Its hard to catch, but he's shouting "Go, Go, Go" (to Arya) allowing her to slip past the Dragon and stealthily move past the White Walkers, allowing her to get the jump on the Night King. The Dragon was presumably told to destroy anything and everyone who moves towards the area with Bran. Without Jon, the Dragon would have likely noticed Arya and killed her before she got to Bran.

If you go back to Arya and Mellisandre's conversation from season 2 or 3, there is no way you can interpret it as she was talking about white walkers. She listed blue eyes in the middle of the comment and there was no emphasis on it. Tying it back to that was a cheap move because they know Arya killing the Night King makes no sense after all the build up and prophecy, but they wanted to 'subvert expectations' for its own sake.
@mimmo4762
@mimmo4762 Год назад
Because, at the time, that conversation did not mean so. Showrunners said Arya killing the Night King was decided only 3 years before this episode, and only because "no one was expecting that" (why, WHY would anyone expect that? It's totally random!); so, a lot of time after that "prophecy".

I believe that Bran, who sees everything, knows that the only way to defeat the Night King is by surprise. Bran does his trick by intervening in subtle ways. What he does is prepare all the way for Aria to kill the Night King the way it happened. It's a great episode. My only problem is not the episode it self but what it implies. In all the seasons we are told "the long night", and it turns out that the long night lasts exactly one night. There is a tremendous imbalance.

A long night can mean more then one thing. A long night of studying doesn't mean that the night was longer as you are implying. The long night in this episode means that the night wore on, doom to thousands, as if the night would never end.
