Tiffany, you are gorgeous and a big inspiration for me. You have no idea how much courage you give me to follow my dream of becoming a concert pianist, even if I don't always feel able to practice, but I always remember you and your ambition, you helped me a lot in these bad times. Thank you!

16:23 Elisabeth: What you do with the piano is you have such wonderful touch and sounds, and I just wanted to have this with Brahms...and I wanted to have really magic (unsaid: that's why I wanted you to play it, Tiffany). She definitely picked the right person. 😉 😎

EVERY pianist says "I wish I played better" after the concert. Accept it. I hope you heard the conductor. She chose you because of the colors and expression you bring to a piece. That, these Brahms concertos need this to balance all the bigness in them.

Brahms always reminds me of Star Trek (TOS). The episode where Spock picks up a piece of sheet music (from a piano?) and tells Kirk something like: "Captain, this is a hitherto unknown piece, written on modern paper, with modern implements - in Brahms' own hand - which I recognize." Being set a few centuries in *our* future, the implication is that Brahms is not (originally) of this world - a superhuman composer. To my ears, Tiffany, you are a superhuman performer. I have loved the piano all my life; I wish I could do a tenth what you can with the instrument. I think the key might just be that you take your own advice: "Keep striving." And it sure does show. This was a wonderful collaboration, with a wonderful result; you (and the orchestra) brought a lot of people a lot of joy. Bless you! Fred

Your performance was according to the orchestra conductor "AWESOME" (no doubts about that), congrats! Let me remind you that little mistakes are your friends, not your enemies, nobody can grow without them!

Hi Tiffany! I'm Randy and I'm 76 years old. I'm a new subscriber but I've been watching your vlogs and your performances for some time now. I used to be a classical pianist in another lifetime. I haven't played for years because of arthritis. I think you're a wonderful pianist. You mentioned that the little mistake you made at the beginning didn't sound as bad on the recording as you thought it would. There's a reason for that. At the time you're playing, it seems worse because besides hearing the wrong notes you also feel the mistakes physically. Your fingers have memorized a pattern, and when you hit wrong notes it messes up that pattern and you feel it. Sometimes it's almost worse than the hearing part. When you listen to the recording, that physical element isn't there. Am I making sense? And remember, the audience doesn't have that physical element either. I love your playing and you have a wonderful talent for vlogging! What I mean is you have a way of making the listener feel like you're talking just to them. You have a sweet, gentle soul and you bring a little bit of sunshine into an old man's life. Thank you!
@TiffanyPoonpianist
@TiffanyPoonpianist 3 года назад
Hi Randy, thank you for your kind words. Yes, I understand what you mean. Never really analyzed the phenomenon, thank you. Though I wouldn't say the physical element when hearing is entirely gone, just less...

Hey Tiffany, I just wanted to thank you, for making such incredible music, giving us extraordinary insights, being approachable and lovely and what is most important to me, honest. Your talk about your emotional connection to this piece, how it has somehow lived along with you and how you want to do all of that justice just felt so real and I don't know if I could have been this open. It's made me realize how even soloists whose level I won't ever reach probably still have a very similar relation to and love for music as I have. Thank you so much and I hope that I'll be able to hear you live someday as well!

Hey Tiffany, you deserve to give yourself a break, it was your first live concert, with an orchestra, after a long time. Moreover you played first Brahms Concerto, a piece which many professional, succesful pianists avoid well into their careers. You are an amazing pianist, clap yourself on the back, in a few years time when after you preform it many times to come, you’ll think about this moment and realize how wonderful and important it was. Never feel ashamed of your emotions. Proud of you ❤️

Every time I hear you play I am impressed with the beauty of the sound you produce. A combination of your technique and touch. Whether it is Horowitz or Van Cliburn, it all boils down to touch. I have been listening to the great pianists for 50 years. You produce as good a sound as anyone. I think most people who have followed you would say you have a friendly and very likable personality. So be kind to yourself, keep striving…you already have the world class sound in your fingertips.

Tiffany, I wish you lots of confidence for your future as a concert pianist! I think for your quite young age you have already achieved lot. And I don't only mean your concerts and your playing, which sounds in my view very unique (and that is especially hard nowadays, when there are so many good pianists) I also mean that you have introduced many people to the wonderful world of classical music, at least I can say that of myself. There was a lot of music of different composers like Schumann, Scarlatti, Haydn... that I didn't have an interest in, but through your work on RU-vid I was able to broaden my Horizont and discover new directions and passion in this kind of music.

You did your best Tiffany! It’s definitely been a while to hear a live orchestra & a solo pianist performing a concerto even if it’s through RU-vid. Don’t be hard on yourself. Kudos to you practicing for a concerto after a year of not playing live with an orchestra. You did it & gave your best & love that the Conductor really wanted to you to join the orchestra because of the beautiful timbre you bring as you play Brahms! It’s really great you share your honesty with us to wanting to playing a piece that your connected with, I am reminded how not just emotional is when a musician connects with a piece but also how mentally challenging music can be when we want to give our best by not our emotions get the best of us or self doubt.

Can't imagine the strength it takes to play so hard and hours involved. One thing I always wonder though - when you are concentrating on your playing, and the director is behind you - how hard is it to stay in time with what the conductor is doing? Also... you always prepare for encore. Has there ever been a time when audience thought you were done and then didn't play the encore after all? I hope you keep doing orchestra performances along your solo journey.

Great that you are out in public performing again….make~up routine quirky fun and ‘down to Earth’….concert organizer loved you….you have wonderful sense of the Schumann sound world and great touch…this transfers well into Brahms sound world….you had brief “fan club” after….woooohooo…. Would love a CD of you performing the Brahms PC1. 💐💐

Just waiting for you to play in London! After postponements and over a year without public performances, it's hardly surprising you felt the way you did. I'd call that normal and healthy. Now, go for it!

it was nice to hear your thoughts and realizations throughout this whole vlog !! I like the conductor's energy and how she viewed you playing this piece.
