Your relatives in Manchester should have hired people carrier vehicle from airport to home with amount of luggage you had and on top 4 to 5 people could be easily accommodated with good space and very comfortable journey and it's not expensive and could be prevented yourselves from discomfort with piles of bags on your wife and yourself. Also these people carriers with driver can be booked in advance of minimum 1 day from airport transfers companies on very reasonable prices.
