It was a moment filled with expressions of joy many humans would recognise when a chimpanzee named Vanilla got a chance to see an open sky for the first time in 28 years. The chimp was released onto an island rescue centre in June 2023 after being saved from a medical research lab in the US.

Seeing the way she looked up (the sky) for the first time at the age of 28, really made me emotional. I feel happy for her, but also angry at how humans had treated her.

She had a medical condition. In this case humans haven't treated her poorly. If it wasnt for them, she wouldn't have survived this long.

That's the troop leader. It was so heartwarming to see him give her a comforting hug, and then to encourage her by tapping her gently as they walked out into the field. I'm not a fan of chimps, but this was absolutely beautiful!

not sure if i would use 'amazing' to describe it, i would say it was extremely sad and breaks my heart when she looked up at the sky, i teared up, wasnt nothing ' amazing' about it, she had been locked up in a probably a 8 foot cold hard gray cell her entire life. was heartbreaking to see her look on her face to me and extremely sad humans treated her like that for 28 years

She probably has lots more life left, Chimps in captivity tend to live almost a third longer because of the lack of survival stress. The oldest documented chimpanzee died at 70 years old.

@@rajlingam7441 Seems it's the wealthy humans that benefit most from animal testing, they on average have a longer life expectancy. It's the least wealthy humans that endure the most suffering and a shorter life span.

@@adamhull9994 - Precisely the point. We use other creatures on this earth as food, pets, toys, display objects, research tools, work animals and who knows what else. Most humans think that only we are sentient beings and our needs are of highest importance. Ill-treatment of animals is rampant and the laws made to protect them are violated with impunity. There is a desperate need to make the world a better place for other creatures and I don't know where to begin.

At 01:25, someone else must have noticed the chimp in context walking upright (due to spending years in a cage), adapt to walking on all fours when passing by fellow chimps walking on all fours. This is societal conforming, or as the saying goes 'when in Rome, do as Romans do'. They copy the others to try to fit in. However, at 01:38 after passing by other chimps, he went back to walking on 2 feet again.

She was in prison for crimes she did not commit. She was abused and used for 28 years, yet her joy to experience some sort of freedom and her awe is something I will never forget. She is my sister, just like all the other animals on earth are my brothers and sisters, whether primates, birds, cows, goats, bears, foxes, mice, rats .... were all together in the circle of life.

🙏🐒 SAVE THE CHIMPS! For Vanilla and others like her, please try to buy only products that have the "Bunny" seal, "Cruelty Free", "Not tested on animals", etc. Also get in touch with your Congressmen and tell them to support laws that required alternatives to testing on animals whenever possible.

Poor baby I’m so happy that she is able to able to live out the rest of her life free and happy. NO LIVING BEING NO ANIMAL, should be in a laboratory. I feel bad for animals they are living, breathing beings with emotions yet most humans treat them like they are no different then a plant. The way we torture them for food, fur, research, and entertainment is a sin.

This touches my Soul, deeply. It's unimaginable what test animals endure...I have seen their eyes. It's horrific, and even worse because it's at the hands of humans. There are thousands of people that would volunteer to test products, for small compensation. This is beautiful to see, I'm so grateful she is now free and can e joy this new freedom. Don't forget, there are millions more. Puppies, bunnies kittens, exotic reptiles, calf, horses, baby animals of any species, and it's a crisis. May all animals be free of this atrocity someday. 🙏 🕉

To witness that hug and see the joy on her face when she sees the sky and deny they have thoughts and feelings like us is to deny your own humanity. You have to be determined to not acknowledging it… because it is pure heartfelt joy & wonder same as any human would feel in that situation! Some men are just terrible with animals. How can we do that?!!? For me it is a total absence of humanity!!!! I hope at least that he will live a few more years of freedom. Their intelligence is irrelevant imo, we shouldn't treat them negatively regardless. But many humans treat other humans despicably regardless of intelligence & innocence & apparently being the same species of being, so no surprise that some humans see animals as less than.

The tears i have wiped from my face watching this & how she reacts to the sky above has found a place in my heart which I will cherish forever. I'm so happy they are now outdoors and away from the pain and suffering they have endured for far too long The NHS in the US is still holding chimps that they won't realease to a sanctuary, time they also got their freedom.
