I did a sub shoot out, the SVS SB1000 non Pro version vs the Airmotiv SE12... The Emotiva bloodied the little SB1000, it was no contest. This was in a 12' x 12' room, carpeted using the speaker cable connections from a vintage Sansui 2000 receiver to a pair of Zu Omen Dirty Weekends. The SE12 was so easy to make disappear in the room, you cannot localize where the sound is coming from, it simply envelops the room. And it digs deep, it actually plays well with music, which I did not think it would do. For $269 this is simply a killer deal, I need to buy another in case of an emergency!
I don't think you'd be able to hear an explosion in outer space. Really enjoying your advice. I just purchase my first system (5.1 AVR and just two front speakers at the moment) and I am learning a lot from your videos. The delivery of the information and the humor that goes with it make the channel very enjoyable.
Woah . I got one. Paired w/ Wharfedale Lintons , 35 w all tube integrated. It can get down there and make the air move , to where you're feeling the air move more than hearing it. I really like this Airmotive see 12. Just switched from two SVS Sb 1000's . They are very nice too. Update ; well so much for resale value. I paid $550 to get the SE 12 deliverd. Now a new one is $269. Hummm. That means I might get $200 out of mine. And it's not old. I think buying used will be the way I go from now on. Now I wonder what my RS 11($1,299)is worth . Nice speakers but plan on keeping them , or lose money
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking at both subs that you mentioned ( just one sub for my system ) Any chance you can offer some pro's and cons of each. Is there a big difference ?
@@deadline7610 Hey , without being technical, which I'm not really, even though it is lower watts , the Airmotive SE 12 benefits from a big cabinet , down firing driver , and a 12 " front firing radiator . Powering them with a Premaluna Prologue Integrated. I had two SVS 1000's , now 1 Emotiva . The bass sound by nature is slower. The string on a bass guitar moves slower than the strain on a rhythm guitar. So everyone's talking about fast Bass. To my ear, it's hard to get that low bass and it be fast too. The Airmotive is fast enough. It can reproduce that scary low breathing bass , scary movie bass. But I'm really stereo , vinyl. The 1000 SVS is very nice. As the personification I listened to them about a year maybe. I would say most people would be very happy with them. I guess it boils down to what you're really wanting on the lower end of the sound spectrum. I have a pair of Rel t5 I 's before the 1000's. My room is sm , 200 sq ft , vaulted ceiling. The Airmotive is centered between my mains , right in front of my stereo cabinet. Sounds like a wall of bass. It can rock ,yes , but it is capable of reproducing details. Happy hunting.
Hey Randy! Love your RU-vid channel. I'm more of an AVR guy, so haven't ventured into DACs and whatnot [yet, but would like to play w/them] but I stumbled onto the Emotiva SE12, and have to admit I'm intrigued by it. I currently have an older Atlantic Technology 12" sealed sub, rated conservatively at 250W RMS, it's been a great sub, and does equally well with music or movies. The Emotiva SE12 is currently on sale, I'm thinking that perhaps TWO of these would work out great and I assume [oh boy] that my Onkyo TX-7100 which has two sub pre outs (not independent) and one each would simply connect to the LFE input on the Emotiva. I'm debating on keeping my existing Atlantic Technology 272 PBM or trying the Emotiva SE12, and if I like it better than the Atlantic Technology sub, I would likely order a second one. I think because the subs are not independent, that the Dirac Live that comes with the Onkyo could do the bass management [not positive on that], Any opinion? Or instead of getting two Emotiva SE12's just get one really good $500 sub. Too many options haha
My Hsu been out of commission since my better half rearranged the living room. Needed a longer surge protector. The ubi 5.2 are now complete again. Once this old Hsu dies I will get Emotive or the SVS with app. I really like the idea of not having to get up, so it will probably be the SVS.
Well well well good morning to you Master cheap man, excellent review makes me want to buy one, I’ve got the SVS 1000 SB 1000 and I am very shocked at how little it really pushes in my open concept room have an amazing day
How does the SE12 compare to the SB1000 Pro if we ignore the SVS app? The SVS has a huge advantage in terms of ease of use, but in terms of listening experience, which model do you think has the edge? The SE12 has that passive radiator, but the SVS has more power. I don't know what to make of that.
HI Sir I have Pre amplifier Parasound P6 , it has sub output ,? and AVR Onkyo Rz 50. I am lister off video music, audio music and movies. Does this Subwoofer suits my both amplifiers. ?? I listen medium sound. Please advise waiting for your reply. Thanks 🙏.
hi randy, would be nice if you can review the $350 fluance db12 subwoofer. you don’t do that many subwoofer reviews. will patiently wait for it, thanks cheapaudioman
Hey Randy very good Review like always! As always ... Emotiva not a thing in Germany : / but i thought about buying a svs sub pb 1000 or pb 1000 pro, which would you recommend
I like the SB 1000 Pro so much I bought it from SVS. You can’t go wrong with them. The app is the way to go with their stuff. Makes it easier to integrate into your system.
@@edbek2442 that sb100 sub is 500-600 American in the United States, depending on finish. The piano black and gloss white are 600. The basic wood finish is 500. Pb1000 pro is 600. Only 1 finish.
If I have a small/medium room, and don't want/need excessive volume/loudness, is it worth the extra $100 bucks over the Emotiva SE8 subwoofer? While I am inclined to say yes given the size and weight of the respective subs(especially if weight is equatable to quality), I mean the total driver surface area is more than twice as great on the 12-inch sub compared to the 8-inch, as is the weight, the difference in frequency response is only 5hz, 33hz vs. 28hz, which to me is somewhat trivial. I mean, personally, when listening to music, tonal texture and speed/clarity of the bass is far more important than extreme low extension, 33hz should be good enough, especially if it is good quality bass.
Man I sure like what Emotiva has been bringing to the table! If you get the new BassX A2 in for review please try and compare it to your BassXA300. I have herd it’s a nice step up in dynamics. And if it is noticeably better than it will be a home run for Emotiva
i was looking to buy this sub along with a dacmagic 200m. i will be using in conjunction with my pc which has audioengine a5 plus speakers currently. can you give me best wsy to hook up so i can use the high pass filter on the subwoofer? I have a 42 oled monitor and play games and watch movies and listen to music with it. would appreciate the info! Thanks!!! Enjoy ur channel!!
Surprised it only goes to 28 Hz for that big of a sub but I guess that's where only having 200 watts comes into play. You should ask Emotiva to send you their CD player. It looks awesome and also can be used as an external DAC. No real reviews out there for it, you could be the first!
Just got an SE12 I will do some measurements but to me it sure does go a tad lower than what they claim ! Got the B1+ this company doesnt cheat like others on measurements so I guess you'll still feel some pretty good bass way below that point.
Would a Dayton Audio APA150 power amplifier work with the low pass filter? I want to use a topping E30 as a pre amp and power Emotiva TZERO towers with the APA150. In my head this would be a killer system for my TV. Please do a review of the Dayton Audio APA150 power amplifier?!
It depends on the type of music you listen to...for instance rock doesn't typically hit into low frequency so emotiva sub would probably suit you fine in that application. I agree with the comments that if you can swing 499 for a svs sub they are a great choice. I currently use SVS sub for movies and music.
Can you use the high pass filter if your source is a PC? I am confused on if I rum the 3.5mm/RCA cable from my PC to the in on the sub. Then on the out run the RCA/RCA cable to my emotiva AMP. That powers my bookshelf speakers. Thanks
Could someone explain to me why subwoofers are made with down-firing drivers and not forward-firing? I mean, how exactly is this supposed to be better? For movies, yeah, I can understand, but for music, no. I'm sorry, I just don't get it. As far as I am concerned, a subwoofer is just a low-frequency speaker, which in my view, should be seamlessly added to the main speakers to extend the range downwards an octave or so. Of course a good sub can do more than that, it affects a system's sound in so many ways, but the main function is low-frequency bass extension. Yeah, I get this bass is supposedly non-directional/omnidirectional, non-localized stuff, but I don't believe it, or frankly, agree, to me that's crap, unless you are in a huge room/space, you can and should hear where low-frequency tones are coming from, at least when listening to music. For the music I listen to, classical orchestral(along with other music), to me, the subwoofer should be an extension of the right speaker, it's where the low strings, cellos and basses are situated in an orchestra, to the right of the conductor, and the right speaker already, generally, plays the low notes. To me, a downward-firing driver shooting the sound to the floor just creates problems, it not only muffles and deadens the sound when some energy is absorbed by and some reflected by the floor(I'm going to say most people's floors are carpeted), but it may also create issues with timing and the like. I just read a review on the Emotiva website where the guy said, and I'm paraphrasing here, he bought the sub and set it up down-firing(as it's designed for), and while it made things better, he felt he didn't really get the sound he wanted, a fuller bottom end with a quick response, even after an extended break-in period, and it was only after he modified the placement and set it up to be front-firing that he said everything finally sounded right, that he got what he was looking for, a full bottom end, quick and dynamic. It seems to me all this could be avoided if Emotiva simply made the sub have a front-firing driver and a downward-facing passive radiator, then we'd have the best of everything. I'm sorry, having speakers pointed directly at the floor is just effing stupid, I mean, would we ever point our mains straight down towards the floor? Effing of course not, it would just be plain dumb. Yeah, I get that it's different, but it still doesn't make sense to me, pointing the subwoofer speaker's driver straight down at the floor, especially when it's just a couple of inches off the floor. Someone tell me why I'm wrong.
Well I have a sub and brand new Polk Reserve 200s but haven't heard them yet and probably won't until the the return window is up because I can't find the receiver I want and I just can't go with a refurbished receiver. Dam I hate what this f a. K. E v. I. R us has done to the world. Edit the virus is real but it wasn't natural . I feel it was used to ruin the 2020 el
@@damianhaber4890 I don't have any friends.. I do have a receiver though. All I need in my life is more over priced audio to obsess over. Its like a heroin addiction and I'm chasing that audiophile dragon to Nirvana. 🤟
@@cheapaudioman No. It makes no sense. It takes all of the ingenuity of the series and over-flips a pancake 100 times to try and justify some mediocre characters. The whole thing, and it's partner in crime--whatever it was called--are abonimations.
@@EmotivaAudioCorp with respect. When Ripley walked out in a construction bot and declared, "get away from her you b*tch!", the whole theater went blooddrunk with excitement and fury. It was epic. Conversely when Noomi Rapace gave herself a computer controlled abortion and then ran around the ship to discover ancient guy Pearce, nobody cared and nobody understood what the hell was going on. Don't rationalize a bad movie. It's just a bad movie. All the nostalgia in the world doesn't make it good.
