I love that 2-8-2 Mikado# 19 since I went to Age Of Steam Roundhouse at SugarCreek, Ohio with uncle and I saw her in machine shop. That’s very good sense of the “Emperor Of The North “
if your going to try to make one of these, a key item is this thing called the invisicab. its like the cab of the loco, minus the interior. thats how i was able to get the view from the front of the 3254.
i originally planned to do that but i decided on a freight that would fit the loco. one reason i made it so long was that at the settings i had it at, the 3254 wouldnt slip the best with a light train so i made it a little longer to make it slip.
SV? To my knowledge 19 was a ex McCloud River currently a Oregon Pacific and Eastern 90ton Mikado and number 18 (the other two locomotives) was of the same origin except was a consolidation
In a heavy fog there would be moisture on the rails anyway. If Shack had not pulled the throttle back to the 6-8 notch it wouldn't have slipped. The engineer might have even applied sand before pulling on the throttle. With the throttle opened so far --it was sucking the hot coals out the stack. The fireman had to fill the holes in the bed of coal with fresh coal to keep the fire going.
