He 180'd because he thought the dark side and Palpatine were the only way to save Padme. Anakin wasn't exactly known for respecting the Jedi way, he only brought it up to save Palpatine. And Palpatine in my opinion wasn't really even defenseless as he was recharging his force lightning the entire time, I'm sure he had one more trick up his sleeve.
@@smileybeats2441 the trick is he foresaw the whole situation as the means to turn Anakin. Sidious was not merely good at throwing lightning, he planned out everything years in advance. Except Ewoks blowing up Deathstar 2. Whatever. Stupid ass writing.
the novel explains it alot better lol. It is a little more drawn out, Anakin did not think Palpatine would kill Windu and once he does, Anakin realizes there is no turning back. The Jedi are very strict and literally have a death sentence for this kind of shit, so at that point Anakin had no choice but to go full dark side. Tho the killing of the younglings was extreme and sudden.
2:56 I love how Palpatine passes through three different emotions within two seconds; fear, surprise, glee. Any time Palpy goes full sith in a scene its hysterical, I love it.
Well I wouldn’t say fear or surprise. Sidious was in full control of the situation, he was not fearful at all, nor was he surprised. It was Anakin that was in fear and it was him that was surprised.
The Dark Side leave the people alone boy, jeeeez. +mercy just ignore this fuckface he's bashing and insulting everyone i rest my case... I took a screenshot by the way ;-) oooooh yeaaaah
Turns around, walks out the senate door as guards and clones storm in to arrest Palpatine, gets back in his starfighter, flies home to Padmé, conceives Luke and Leia, gets promoted to Jedi Master the next day for revealing Palpatine’s plot, reconnects with Ahsoka Tano and grants her the rank of Jedi Knight
before that however, he said "I can't hold it any longer... I'm weak........" at the moment of ecstasy, he says "unlimited poooooowweerrrrrr" THEN the "ahhh"
The parallels between the two scenes are actually a factor in why it makes sense for Anakin to turn to the dark side. Seeing Palpatine and Mace Windu make the same comment about a defenseless enemy shows, in Anakin's eyes, that there's no difference between the Sith and the Jedi, and on top of that the Jedi council has done nothing but fear him and treat him unjustly, while Palpatine promises to save Padme from dying. Makes the turn make more sense, I'm bad at explaining it, but it's sort of powerful storytelling.
although the Jedi treat him fairly, they don't do a great job of explaining themselves or proving it. if there is any off-screen scenes of apologetics from Council Masters, they don't show them on-screen, and the audience doesn't know how well Anakin was educated or not. also, a full 10-year gap between I and II seems a bit preposterous. make him older to start with in I, and have a 5 or 7 year gap, that way you can describe the jumped time almost fully in references and quotes in later scenes. a time gap is not the worst thing, but a long time gap that the films just don't cover is problematic for a number of reasons.
it's different in the Rebel Alliance Galactic Civil War. the characters' personal educations weren't as necessary to the plot. ''They blew up Alderaan. The Empire is obviously Evil." is pretty much sufficient as the beginning and end of the Rebels' justifications. More is needed to explain Anakin than to explain the Rebels.
he's sneaky eye peaking between the line waiting for Anakin to speak out for him is so wonderful, such a great actor and great acting, I love it so much.
Yeah I don't know why they didn't edit that shot out -- it's SO terrible. There were plenty of other shots were Ian looked much better -- why not go with those?
JuruX SayokaX ea directors initiate order 66 battlefront 2 released now we must kill every remaining bank account add in game payments the rebel scum are giving us bad reviews ea orders them to be captured they bring them back the top EA director good kill him no it's against the law do it that is when the war against crap games began
Basically anime in a nutshell. Is there ANY piece of fiction where if all hope is lost, all hope is lost for good? Because in my upcoming fantasy world that’s gonna be it. No bullshit cliche flashbacks to save the day.
Anakin: "he must stand trial!!!" Mace: "tell you what anakin, you help me here and ill let you walk away from the jedi life allowing you to be with padme....." Anakin: ........ Mace: "ill set you up in a fine house in naboo and make sure no jedi comes after you, we got a deal? Also ill throw in free health insurance for you wife and kid Anakin: ......... (Star wars theme song plays while credits roll)
He's a Sith who's been having to hide and conceal his full power for decades now, and he finally was able to cut loose. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually did.
Absolutely love this scene. Anakin's always been scolded for being so brash, and when he tried following the jedi way in this scene, he was dismissed. Palpatine at the beginning of the movie showed no mercy to Dooku, and Mace was going to do the same. It showed that maybe there isnt such a big difference between the sith and jedi, and that maybe the sith arent as bad as they seem. The dark side and knowledge Palpatine possessed would seemingly help save Padme's life, and Anakin did what he thought was right to save his wife
Well, that only shows how much of a master manipulator Palpatine really was. To paint the Sith and ultimately himself as being "no worse than the Jedi Council" when in fact he was much, much worse. Windu realized how dangerous Sidious was, so it's understandable why he wanted to kill Sidious then and there, "Jedi ways" be damned. The whole scene still makes Anakin look like a big hypocrite because 1) Anakin did not uphold "the Jedi way" when dealing with Dooku earlier and 2) when he said to Windu, "I need him!", it was clear that he was trying to save Sidious for selfish reasons.
I always found this scene funny rather then a tense one because of McDurmmend's ridiculous acting the way he says his lines just makes me laugh because it's so goofy you can't expect me to take this scene seriously.
He only tried to follow the jedi way for his own benefit because he needed Palpatine to keep Padme alive. He even says "I need him" before he strikes Windu.
What makes this scene pretty cool is that Palpatine fakes weakness to exploit the hypocrisy of the Jedi (I.e. Windu insisting that he kills Palpatine then and there despite killing being against the Jedi code), which finally makes Anakin turn down a path he truly didn't want to go on. That and Palpatine acts like an old and "weak" man until he gets the upper hand; where he reveals his "UNLIMITED POWER!!!" and finishes Windu.
Yeah, I was just thinking that. The experienced Windu could tell that Palpatine was faking it, but the emperor was doing this act to appeal to Anakin's more innocent idealism.
4Tifier What was Windu supposed to do? He tried to arrest him after he disarmed Palpatine. Then Palpatine tries to kill him. He wasn't unarmed; he could literally electricute anyone at any time. This is one of the most powerful sith of all time we are talking about and he already killed three powerful Jedi with ease.
Tyler Kroenke Palpatine left mace with no other choice but to do exactly what was needed to give anakin the final push to the abyss, they were all playing rock paper scissors while he was playing chess.
4Tifier Yeah i think that once he did that he knew Anakin would think "Hey if I have to choose between two obviously corrupt and hypocritical organisations why not go with the one that says it can save your wife"
When you realize that Palpatine probably made himself look weak on purpose... he made himself seem pitiful.... This man has been manipulating Anakin his entire life... every time the Jedi were strict, Palpatine made them look petty and bad. The Jedi allowed him to be the youngest on the council, only refusing mastership due to his age, but Palpatine made it seem like they were looking down on him. Mace Windu was shown in certain comics to be a caring man. But he's strict, focused and acts no-nonsense... he's someone who can seem more uncaring than he really is... and Palpatine took advantage of that. He was literally controlling HOW Anakin was thinking about things... Qui Gon would have been a father figure and this wouldn't have happened... but because he died, Palpy was able to take over instead... and this is the consequence.... The Jedi weren't really at fault. Palpatine was just too good at hiding himself. The Jedi trusted and respected him and allowed him to be a father figure to a boy they saw needed a father figure... and that bit them in the butt... but it wasn't due to them being bad, but due to Palpatine just being that good. The Sith waited for a 1000 years. they planned... prepared...
That's why palpatine is my favorite Sith he only uses the dark side for emergency purposes or when things started to slip away from his plans, palpatine may not be the strongest Sith but he's definitely the smartest
I think he also manipulated mace, making him believe that palpatine was hopelessly outmatched in order to buy time for anakin to get there and be swayed to his side (or in hopes he could kill him with the first round of lightning)
His face was always like that as the Dark Side has that effect on people, he was disguising himself to appear more normal. When Mace hit him, he just got rid of the illusion.
@@bleachyboy3590 actually, he was really struggling against Mace, because of Mace's Vaapad, the ability to use your opponents Dark side abilities to strengthen yours, its a very risky technique that only Mace has mastered. not to mention his lightsaber form is completely unique to him, which is why Palpatine was trying techniques of all 7 forms
@@samuelhaverghast2442 Right. Mace would've narrowly won and ended Palpatine if not for Anakin. But Palpatine was pretending to be defenseless once Anakin intervened when Palpatine was actually just charging his force attack up.
The phone be kinda smart, it starts limiting its power spent on background tasks (refreshing your apps, updating your location, etc.) so it can dedicate its last 1% of battery to literally the only task at hand, which might be a final text or call or press send or something lol
Jesus Anakin. If he had helped Mace Windu he would have saved billions, Windu would have noticed his actions and possibly granted him the rank of Jedi master
I have finally watched this movie weeks ago, and I can't help but laugh during this scene. The attitude change from, "I'm too weak" to, "UNLIMITED POWEEERR!!!" was too hilarious LOL 🤣
as hammy as that is, it really drives home in the story that evil pretty much won in that moment. This doesn't usually happen in fiction, but the villain had everything: absolute control of the government and military, magical power, an army loyal only to him, and most importantly, the chosen one was willingly eating out of the palm of his hand. With the death of the jedi and the chosen one his, Sidious had effectively gained undisputed control of the force and ensured the domination of the dark side for years.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis "the wise"? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic he could save others from death, but not himself.
