Near the town of Empire, Michigan there's the local Empire Beach park and also the Empire Bluffs Trail. Both are fantastic and we had a great day visiting both locations.

Pet Rocks came from there, Petosky (Petosky Rocks), there are some wineries and Distilleries right in this area. Great place for cherries too. The implement is a sickle bar pulled by horses to cut your wheat, or hay like the Amish around here still do. See farmers with teams of 4 Draft horses hauling hay wagons out of the fields, plowing in the spring, etc. Trumbull, Geauga, Ashtabula counties in NE Ohio.

Emerald ash borer has really taken a hit on our Ash trees, Actually out walking the dog in the forest one day and he looked at me and got down on his hunches a full 5-10 seconds before I heard a crash and saw one fall. Yes they do make a noise😂. Excellent, easy splitting firewood for many of us here in Northern MI. I’m so glad you enjoyed your visit. Live just east of Frankfort myself.

I've lived here in MI (north side of Holland) for about 10-years and I like it better than FL (I lived there once). While MI has plenty of issues, Lake MI water temperatures rarely get over 72 degrees in the depths of summer, so a wetsuit is on my list of acquisitions to better enjoy the water.

Thanks for all of your posts on your travels! I watched your travels in Colorado and Utah a few years ago. I had wanted to do a trip like that ever sense. My wife rented an Air BNB for a month in Grand Junction, Colorado as a home base. Some of our travels included Moab, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse Point SP, Grand Mesa, Colorado National Monument, Durango train, Mesa Verde, Teluride, Rocky Mountain NP, etc. Thanks again!

I agree with you, you are out there for the solitude. Some people miss alot of things. As far as that machine, hubby says it could be a trimmer.

I think Abby and Adam have been bit by the Michigan Bug. Maybe a summer home in the future.

Yep, we had one on the farm when I was a kid. It wasn’t used any more, it was a relic from my dad and grandad’s horse-drawn implement era.

I think the down trees may be the ash trees decimated by the emerald ash borer.

All those trees? You're looking at the result of Emerald Ash Borer...took out millions of our Ash trees...Devastated so many areas. Color wise you were about 2 weeks early unless you hit the U.P., but even then, they are just getting into peak color (14-Oct-2022).

Hey Adam, that first piece of equipment that you called a saw, is commonly known as a sickle bar mower. Primarily used to cut hay. For the time period, it would have been pulled by horses. As the wheels rotated, they mechanically push and pull the triangular shaped cutters in and out. If interested watch Working Horses with Jim to view a recent video on how the machine functions. Jim's videos are on you tube and thank you for those beautiful Lake views.😃

this is my go to trail. The crazy thing when you go here in spring is that the whole place is smelling of fresh onions. all the green you saw is filled with ramps. So nice to see and smell after a long winter.
