An excellent cover both on the rap and the Alicia Keyes line. The flow on the rap is superb, better than Jay Z. Both sung this song effortlessly. Try listening to Keyes and Carter and compare. No doubt this a better version and I listen to A LOT of music.
Im sorry I didnt hear where you changed the lyrics to that specific verse. So I apologize for my first comment but my opinion on the choice of song still stands. I dont think changing the words changes what that song really stands for. The woman has a beautiful voice btw.. lets hear some dc talk covers.
Why though? I don't get why it's being played? I think we have so much more to deal with in our walk with God and as a church than to be doing such concerts? It's easy to confuse people.
some lyrics of the song.. Good girls gone bad, the city's filled with 'em Mami took a bus trip and now she got her bust out Everybody ride her, just like a bus route "Hail Mary" to the city, you're a virgin And Jesus can’t save you, life starts when the church ends.. its better to name your group as a band not a church!
The pastor explains why they do this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GegILsppRlI.html I will say though, this church is for the "unchurched". It isn't for everyone. But they have busted the seams of that place and peoples' lives are being changed and they DO NOT water down the word. I grew up in church and my dad was a pastor. I can't tolerate 99% of churches out there, cause everyone wants to pretend like they are saintly in church and then leave church to act differently. For instance, most christians listen to secular music outside of church, so why not use it in church to bring folks in that would never feel comfortable stepping foot in one. It is easy to judge when you don't have the correct perspective and when you don't know what it is like to what to be part of the church but feel like an outsider. This place is NORMAL! This place is actually doing things, and I can't say that about many churches at all.
Funny how he changes the lyrics to "Jesus can save you" judges 22: 25 25In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which wasright in his own eyes. 1 John 2 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world this church is a perfect example of how far America has fallen away from Jesus Christ. May the Lord raise up genuine Pastors and prophets, and rebuke these wolves in sheep's clothing. Jesus said my sheep hear my voice, and a stranger they will not follow...... nothing but strangers here.
"And Jesus can't save you, life starts when the church end..." So you preach about Jesus singing worship songs, but you also deny him as a Savior by singing this song. Tsk tsk tsk... Which side are you really on.... you can't be in the middle, serving 2 masters. You have to choose one MASTER.
+Tony Castillo Music - "Let it become a means to point people to God. In forms we will differ and they may be erroneous. BUT NEVER CORRUPT THE SUBSTANCE. The substance of what you sing about must always be pointing people to the truth that is greater than these instruments." Ravi Zacharias
Wow! Really? Two masters? I hope you don't have a television with access to anything non-Christian, or work for a non-Christian organisation.... should I carry on? There is a very good reason why people leave church, and why kids won't come to church - people who pass sanctimonious commentary without the first clue of what's going on. Jesus broke bread with sinners and saints alike. Jesus. Heard of the Him?
I love your band but tou should read understand lyrics of the secular music your singing. In this particular song Jay-Z says "Jesus cant save you, life starts when the church ENDS"...I understand tou all have rock/rap star dreams but tou shouldnt be singing these lyrics to your congregation. .other than that you all can jam but lets see some Christian music that rocks not anti christ music.. some of tou have very anointed voices and could bring many to the throne in praise but as long as your sending Jay-Z anti christ messages you are confusing people.
Kristen, I respect your opinion and to address some of your concerns, the song was performed because it fit the subject matter for the series we were in. We do sing majority Christian songs at our church with an occasional "secular" song when it fits the sermon. We are a church of broken & lost people who have been hurt by other churches &/or Christians who told us we weren't good enough and when we stop listening to music we listen to or stop doing the sinful things we've done or are caught up in currently, then we could come back. We provide a welcoming environment for those type of people to bump into Jesus and if they hear one of their favorite songs every now and then that makes them listen to the message closer....then amen. I realize this church isn't for everyone, but I am a living testament that it is effectively being used by God to change lives. The word isn't watered down and every week I am challenged and convicted to kill my flesh and run after Jesus. Since I've been going there, I am a better husband, father, son and friend. My children look forward to going to church and my friends also want to find out why I'm so happy and I invite them to come and see. God is too big to fit into one box and just because our church isn't what most Christians believe it should look like doesn't mean it's wrong. Lastly, I am not seeking to live out my rap star dreams. I've had that and it left me empty, so now I use my talent to praise God. This song is 1 out of many songs we do and most are christian artists like Lecrae and Trip Lee. I invite you to come and experience the entire service for yourself instead of just a 3-4 minute clip on RU-vid and then make a judgment.
+Tony Castillo "Jesus can't save you" - i think i heard it clear. Singing this may cause confusion to others, don't you think? I understand how you were changed and I'm glad to know about your testimony. However, for me, listening to this, made me heart broken...i felt hurt, and what more would Jesus feel seeing great singers sing those words. I just believe there is always a way to reach out to the broken without compromise.
i think the best way to relate/ be relevant is by singing truthful & honest worship as well as being able to wrestle with hard issues. having people rap the most current song is the lamest. sorry.
they do sing worship. this is just a side note that ties into the message The pastor explains it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GegILsppRlI.html
