cannons on the flanks, protected from the rear by horse, muskets for ur center line with pikemen in the rear ready to defend against cavalry attacks on the rear , this way ur cav can engage the enemy flanks, your cannons can fire constantly without hitting ur units as they maneuver until the enemy lines clash with yours,

Another fun thing would be to get explosive shells and mortars. Makes settlement fights still derpy but you can destory enemies within the walls while you try to break the wall or climb them.

You should get some bayonets. It might help you with the melee combat

Always add infrastructure as it adds movement points and trade income
