Mid90s presents the official music video for Fashawn & ProducerTrentTaylor's "Empty Roads" single. @fashawntv out of Fresno, CA, brought along a couple of west coast underground rap's OG magicians to help him murk this beat from @producertrenttaylor1113.
Odessa Kane has been ripping mics reppin Paradise Hills, San Diego since the mid/late 90's. @KINGKVNE rapped under the name Matrix in the SD crew, Masters of the Universe. Odessa is just one of those cats who you could feel his passion for this hip hop culture we all love.. Odessa has been sharpening knives for 20+ years waiting for his shot to shine... Dude is hungry and ready to cold kill it.
And finally, we got Scarub from 3MG aka 3 Melancholy Gypsies and from the Living Legends. Scarub has forever been an emcee with a pen game that simply couldn't be touched. On this final verse for "Empty Roads", Scarub weaves in and out of the eerie Trent production that not many emcees could stay with. Scarub never finds a pocket to settle in as he gives listeners a crazy journey through his mind and on his 90's GT Performer BMX vintage bike.
This is underground hip hop... this is 90's underground rap vibes from some California Hip-Hop OG's.
This video is the result of 4 different video sessions in Encinitas, Paradise Hills (SD), Los Angeles, and Fresno. All shot in a few days in remote locations where artists could tell the story of what their "empty road" was.
Shout out to Ruben Gomez and Al Yambao (aka @Yams) for the overall art and video direction. A special thanks to the outside videographers who contributed beautifully to the vision of this video. Tareq Zaatari (Trent footage), Greg Malone (Scarub footage), and Otis Reed Dr. (Fashawn footage) all killed it!
Fashawn and ProducerTrentTaylor's album, YOU OWE US WITH INTEREST will drop on 9/27/2024. Fashawn has been one of the best west coast emcees out in California since he dropped his album with Exile, Boy Meets World back in 2009. After that classic debut, Fashawn went on to be selected to XXL's 2010 Freshmen Class with Nipsey Hussle, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Freddie Gibbs, and more. Fashawn parlayed that buzz into some tracks with J. Cole and other dope emcees leading to the emcee getting signed by Nas on his Mass Appeal label.
Fashawn is one of the dopest emcees to ever do it. But he hasn't hit his plateau yet... It just took some heat from ProducerTrentTaylor's mpc to give Fash just what he needed (pause).
ProducerTrentTaylor has been out hustling in these beats streets for a minute. His instrumental hip hop albums back in 2014 - 2015 were a major influence on the lofi / mellow beats music. Trent just had this touch that not many producers have... Trent poured his heart out on these beats... And Fashawn and alllllllllllllllllllllll of the guest features poured their hearts out.
Here it is fam... "Empty Roads"... Mid90s is the label... All of the artists are independent AF!
