As we approached the closing weeks of the 2009 season, there was a tight battle going on in the race for the Playoffs. We had a backlog of fixtures and the visit of Workington on 4th September was to be the start of a very busy and very successful spell.
The signing of Kevin Wolbert was making a big difference to the Monarchs team and we were just starting to realise how good he was. Comets had some injury problems but were still a threat, and they had a young newcomer named Craig Cook at reserve.
