'En Svane" (A Swan). A Norwegian poem by Henrik Ibsen (1828 - 1906) set to music by Edvard Grieg (1843 - 1907).

Recorded at the Norsjø chamber music festival 2021 norsjokammermusikkfest.no on April 30th at Ibsenhuset, Skien, Norway.
Aksel sang a program of Norwegian songs by Sigurd Lie, Halfdan Kierulf, Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Edvard Grieg and Eyvind Alnæs.

Listening to this, I am remind so strongly of the old recording by Jussi Bjorling of this beautiful song. The poise and sweetness of this performance compares very favourably with Bjorling's.

I love what the few years of maturity has done to that wonderful instrument. In some ways, still the voice of a 17-year-old, but one of tremendous artistry and musicality. But the rawness of the teen years is being tempered by a silk overtone, and I'm waiting to hear you as the years go by, doing Schubert and Bach, and thinking, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau lives.

Great voice. I have always followed you since you were a soprano (really magnificent) and even now as a baritone you are very very good. Given the excellent voice, the sensitivity demonstrated, the experience accumulated since childhood, I give you my advice: study thoroughly and perform Bach's cantata BWV 82 Ich habe genug. I'm sure you would interpret it admirably ... - from Italy.
