EnVogue IS underrated. During the height of their success, they were one of the biggest artists out there. But people don’t seem to talk about them the way they do other artists of that time, or even talk about them at all.
Totally agree. Actually even at the height of their success they were underrated - considering how good they are and all the hits they had, I don’t feel like they were as respected and talked about as some other artists of that time.
I disagree. I was around when they came out. And in my city in Pa. this song was played on our local radio station consistently and in the northeast period. They were definitely celebrated and they did tv cameos on popular shows at the time. They were on an episode of a Different World”and “Roc”. They were the girls! And I believe Dawn left the group and was apart of a trip two guys and her. They had a few hit songs. I think you guys say underrated because you may not have been around during certain groups heyday. Those of us that know we talk about them. And they are still doing shows today.
@@Kim-427 I think by "underrated" they mean they aren't spoken about much retrospectively, like some other groups. I was around when En Vogue was at coming up and at their peak, and they were everywhere and their music videos were always in rotation, so definitely not underrated. Have they sort of been forgotten in time? Perhaps. There were so many R&B girl bands back in the 90's (TLC, SWV, Brownstone, Jade, Destiny's Child, etc.) that I think it is hard to stand out.
@@TheRedWaltz24 I hear you. In my neck of the woods they’re still talked about. They just did a show here last year. It’s not all of the original girls but they still sound great.
In their time they were big. They were, if I recall correctly, the number one female group. Seems the group had infighting at a point and faded away. Dawn went to Lucy Pearl, and it seemed none did well on their own.
These ladies knew how to lay it down. And their live performances reflected their genuine talent. They put the female artists of today to SHAME. In every single way. Class personified.
You have to listen to "Givin' Him Something He Can Feel' and 'Hold on" the a cappella opening in the second one is 🔥🔥. You can't go wrong withe these ladies.
By Aretha of course.. EnVogue could harmonize and all that ,but they couldn't touch Aretha on that soulfulness. Their version just didn't do it for me back then, and today either. My favorite part is when Aretha say" Oooh but my man". 😀 Smh!
We never slept on En Vogue, it's just that they are new to you. A lot of us who are older have their music and still enjoy it, however I must admit that they are underrated and groups like Destiny's Child took the credit that En Vogue deserved. GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAY`S !
They weren't underrated. They were the biggest female group of their time. Up there with Boys 2 Men with their acapella singing. But they came out first! 😁❤️
@@sexysadie2901 i think that's the distinction, they tend to get forgotten today. This was one I always stop and sing along too though. Especially when its time for the breakdown, lol.
Their harmonization is in sync!!! This group is so talented. Ever since I came across them I have loved all their songs. They are so strong and each one is equally talented as the next!!
En Vogue was a few years pre-Destiny's Child and definitely were an inspiration to DC (and of course all girl groups go all the way back to the girl groups of the 50's and 60's). En Vogue harmonies were TIGHT, man!
You have got to do "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" by En Vogue. You'll def enjoy it. Also check out "If You Love Me," by Brownstone. Another female group with beautiful voices.
This is freshman year of college all over again!! They played the hell out of this jam back then!! Actually En Vogue wasn't underrated. They were the biggest girl group of their time.
Destiny’s child and en vogue are not in the same league. Not to throw any dirt on destiny’s child they were great too but they have different styles of music. Only thing they have in common is they are both girl groups. That’s about it! I don’t get it when people compare them there’s nothing to compare lol.
@@frenkli9815 Deffo not on the same league hence why one compares. It's not about the style but about the standard.. And clearly destiny's child a much lower one
En Vogue was the best group vocally in the 90s! Nobody could touch their harmonies and they all sang lead, no lead singer! They had too much turmoil within the group to sustain. Definitely not underrated. They still exist as a trio, without Dawn and Maxine. The chemistry is just not the same.
Might be underrated now but in the early 90s They were HUGE! it is sad we don't hear more from them nowadays. But, they WERE seriously gigantic late 80's and early 90's. I miss hearing current/new stuff from them.
This was my mom’s jammmmm when I was growing up. Honestly En Vogue is super underrated and they don’t get the love they deserve. This whole album was 🔥
I LOVE that her best friend is chiming in loud and clear - “What makes you think you can just walk back into her life…???” That’s how we have to roll. Choose your friends wisely, then defend her and protect her. Seriously, we have to stick together. ✌️😘
Have you reacted to Hold On yet? The intro will blow your mind. I miss talented artists like this. They are all individually killer vocalists, but the harmonies when they come together are just phenomenal.
Wow. Takes me back. I can remember exactly what I was up to when this song came out. This is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head...forever. The visuals are easy on the eyes as well. ;>)
EVERYTHING was amazing in the early 90's....music was peaking and collaborations were everywhere. Check out there song with Salt and Peppa - Whatta man, And look up The Rock's version of THIS song. LOL
These Amazing Singers/ Composers/ Performers, are still Touring and they are definitely Worth seeing Live. I just saw them last August front row at Breckenridge Jazz Festival and they absolutely Shredded it. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘😎🔥🔥 Got my setlist.
Ahh, this was the club jam back in the day. Girls in tight black dresses with ankle boots, guys in nice dress shirts and slacks. This song always brought everyone to the floor.
This is the original En Vogue with 4 members. They've had some member changes over the years. On "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" - Maxine Jones sings verses, Dawn Robinson sings pre-choruses ("what makes you think you can just walk back into her life?"). "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" sampled "the payback" by James Brown. A different loop of "The payback" was sampled on "Hold on". Terry Ellis sang the "Who's loving you" part on "hold on" and Cindy Herron-Braggs sings the verses on "Hold on". Dawn and Maxine are no longer in the group. Dawn left in 1997. They went on as a trio for 2 more albums, Ev3 and Masterpiece Theater. Some of Dawn's adlibs and background vocals remained on Ev3, as she had actually recorded for the album before departing from the group. Maxine Left in 2001. Amanda Cole replaced them for 2 years before being replaced by current member Rhona Bennett.
Man, When EnVogue broke out @1990' they were one of the biggest names in music' first in R&B, then they scored on the pop charts with their 2nd album Funky Divas. I believe they are the 2nd best selling girl group of all time (the Supremes are #1). That's Maxine singing leads with Dawn doing the chorus. They can all SANG! En Vogue is still touring with two of the original members- they gotta be in their late 50s by now, still singing and still fine!!
This Woman Group En Vogue “ they where very big back in the day and their still performing today, They will and always will be Icons!! I think they was as big like “Destiny Child”.
The first singer was Maxine, the 2nd was Dawn, it's Terry on the far left and on the far right is Cindy. They didn't know each other & producers put them together as a group.
