Hi there! Data that are in a dataflow and used in several power bi datasets are being duplicated? For example if I have a table in a dataflow that takes x space of my workspace, everytime I use this table in a dataset this will take x space multiplied by the datasets it is being used in?
Besides the advantages of the linage view and consolidating transformations for third party data like the worldbank example, do you recommend this same approach when the "reused" data primarily comes from conformed dimensions in the data warehouse? Do you recommend creating dataflows for the other commonly used queries in your example dataset that come directly from the adventureworks database?
Short answer: No, use the data warehouse and skip the additional layer. Longer answer: There may be situations where the added discoverability of dataflows may make sense for already-curated data like a conformed dimension, but I expect those to be the exception and not the rule.
@@BIPolarSSBI thanks for your nice Posts and Blog! May I know why you discourage the use of Fact Tables or Dimension Tables as Dataflows, but instead go Directly to the Datawrehouse?
@@SilvanoPaxia Thank you! I'm afraid there are too many variables in that question for me to give any answer other than "it depends." A key reason to use dataflows is to enable more self-service scenarios at more points in the end-to-end BI application, so I would look at whether self-service is a key criteria for your use case. Also ask if dataflows will deliver the performance and connectivity you need.
you probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
Thanks Matthew. Is there a build in (quick) solution to get the percent difference from a bar chart? I only found %of Total as a build in feature. For other things I need DAX logic like divide with dateadd,... which in kind of cumbersome.
You're probably better off taking this question to community.powerbi.com/ where there's a community of experts to answer. Any time you get into the visualization side of Power BI, you're well out of my comfort zone, so I am not the right person to answer here.
Dataflows are not a Premium-only feature, although some dataflows capabilities do. Check out ssbipolar.com/2018/10/23/dataflows-in-power-bi/ for more details.
