Cobourg is spiraling down, turning into Jane and Finch town so sad. I wasn't expecting for this kind of development in the next few years when the town used to be very clean and peaceful. We live in the proximity of this encampment where we used to bike by the former Brookside Youth Centre. I wonder why they can't evict these people for mandatory rehab help them get on their feet rather than baby sitting them by providing a shelter at 310 that would not resolve their mental instability. Cobourg should embrace diversity in terms of food establishments more international stores buy since we moved 8 years ago the mall is still dead, most businesses closing down now encampment everywhere. Cobourg still prioritizes the encampment over the potential economy, boosting businesses and potential jobs for most people moving in Cobourg.
I am not against anyone who has fallen on hard times and camps ! BUT they should at least keep their area clean a free from garbage, if not then kick them out. And YES the health care and social systems are broken with too many rules. As such people without and address do not qualify for any social assistance, Again too many rules. These folks need guidance and assistance to get back on their feet.
Commenting on Jane and Finch from someone who's never been on Jane and Finch. I'll walk by the encampment any day of the week. I've been at Jane and Finch and I can tell you, it ain't the same thing!
Then the property owners of a property get the Fine for not cleaning up after the squatters, that have No rights to on this property. The Municipality have been far too scared of this people's that Don't pay any property taxes.
This is a perfect image picture of what's happening in Oshawa You have your local politicians and Regional doing nothing because they don't want to look like the bad people or they are way off course and don't care like a couple counselors that we have here in Oshawa especially in central location where they protect them instead of the rest of us definitely it's by law issues and if it's private property owners sure they can call the police the police are not going to charge these people they'll remove them I'll move down the road and our politicians don't want to do tough love.
*Cobourg - Ontario's Feel Good Town.* They need to ditch that slogan AND get rid of their cliquish politicians who only tackle the real easy problems, like someone letting their lawn grow 6 inches long. Don't get me started on their stupid parking bylaws. Talk about a major cash cow.
Are the items stolen? Why haven’t the police dealt with the trespassing and littering? These people need to be be reunited to the families and held accountable
It's not all black and white unfortunately it should be you're right in your statement but unfortunately a lot of these are not anything to do with police it's actually wherever is dealing with the city or region these are bylaws that are broken and if it's private property yes the homeowner discuss about the trespassing with the police will escort them off and no different from here in Oshawa or anywhere else in Durham anywhere Toronto North Bay it's all the same same bylaws same police answer will be civil issue or they'll just do their basic and move them along quartz don't do anything cuz the politicians higher up including locally basically said don't do anything it's time for tough love
Noticed you took video without any commentary. Best to be safe and not mention anything as you’re likely to be labelled a racist or cold hearted for talking about the disgusting direction our policies are steering towards. Used to be a beautiful town and creek
There are possible solutions of all kinds if the powers that be would get out of the way and let good people improve the general situation. I suggest that there be a sponsorship program that citizens and various organizations could volunteer to help out with the homeless. These homeless people would be expected to better their lives and if they were not willing to make a big effort to improve then they would go to a tougher program to help them out.
