The darkest moment of the movie was when Jorge left behind Bruno and Hernando when he escaped. I know that Bruno made it, but we never find out about Hernando.
I love the reveal at the end. Mirabel didn’t get a gift because she was the one charged with keeping the family together when Abuela eventually passes, and she keeps the miracle going.
Its actually very subtle: her gift is the same as Abuela Alma's. She's connected to the house itself. That's why she can communicate with it, and why the house doesn't come back alive until SHE puts the doorknob in. Or, in other words, her door was the house's FRONT door!
everyone can talk to the house... The house is just... magical. The house is not the source. But the candle is the source, and only Abuela was the holder of it, its protector, her view of the family and her sight and vision is what kept it alive, so when she lost sight of it, it was starting to falter... as in Mirabel not getting a gift. I think that if Abuela had kept sight of who the miracle was meant for, as she sais at the end there, Mirabell would have gotten a door, probably with her holding a candle, but the candle maybe not filled in yet, similar to Alma's door.. and maybe would have been trained to keep the candle from a child, learning to be the next keeper.
I wonder if they "don't talk about Bruno" because they don't want to upset/piss off Abuela. So when they saw that she had welcomed him back, they could drop it .
I think this is the truth. Abuela was wearing a black shawl in all her appearances since Mirabel's ceremony... I think she was mourning her son's disappearance and nobody wanted to upset her so they just didn't talk about him.
That’s what I assumed. Delores can hear Bruno the entire time but she never mentions because you’re not supposed to talk about him, at all. Don’t talk about the black sheep of the family.
The clothing of each family member has symbols. Camilo’s sleeves had chameleons, Delores’ blouse had sound waves, and so on. Mirabel’s had symbols from other family members, but her blouse has butterflies around the collar. A butterfly brought Pedro and Alma together in Abuela’s flashback, a butterfly was in Bruno’s second vision, and most importantly it formed on the candle itself the night Pedro died. Casita didn’t deny her a gift, it recognized her as the embodiment of the candle. The candle went out in her left hand. The same hand that put on the doorknob, which restored the magic.
Don't forget, each family has her colors : yellow, red and orange on Pepa's side and blue and purple on Julieta's side. Even Agustin has thing who represent his daughters (the flower for Isabela and his socks for Luisa and Mirabel)
they probably did not show it but i'm assuming that they looked for bruno when he went missing and as time passed by they just do not want to talk about him because they actually miss him and dolores knows that he was in the walls and probably just did not mention it to everyone else because of the unresolved family issues
Actually Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it. The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift.
i watched this the other day and was surprised by how much I loved it. i dont recall much fanfare about it in theaters. The songs were GREAT and the message was important. I feel Mirabelle is a great addition to the Disney "Princess" family.
Thank you for understanding isabela’s character faster than some other react channels on yt. She envies mirabels role of not having any expectations placed on her. While the way she acted is not ok in anyway it’s clear that they have built up a resentment toward each other. I really appreciate your channel thank you!
TBH, Abuela isn't the antagonist but the nature of pressure in general, yeah Abuela had been too hard on her family, and it's not a thing that should be tolerated, but she too had been in constant pressure. After her husband died, ofc the refugees were in her responsibility, they have the gifts so the community look up to them.
The thing is, Isabella has the same problem as Luisa: she's under too much pressure. Luisa is expected to be able to do whatever work needs to be done; Isabella is expected to be flawless. Imagine having to live you life by what someone else thinks is right, and that your worth is tied to how close to that person's idea of perfect you are, and unable to be yourself in any way. I sympathize the most with her, because her burden is one that people are so quick to dismiss, like Mirabel did. Because her life seems perfect, there's no one to look at her and ask if she's ok or if she even wants this.
For some unknown reason, this movie gives me the same ultimate deep feeling as Princess Bride. It's a show that hit's such a deep chord that I think this will be remembered as the peak of this era of Disney.
Yes, and Mirabel and her sisters represent well the rôle of the siblings in a family. The eldest has to show ghe exemple, the youngest is often the parents' favorite and the middle child tries to find a way to fit in
@A.G. de Mada Yes, Dolores is the gossip who always hears everyone's else's business. Camilo is the jokester, switching up for his audience. Antonio is the young and full of potential. Pepa is the one who always seems emotional and extreme. Julieta is the one everyone comes to for help. And Bruno serves as a twofer. He is the black sheep, left out because he is different. And he is the not so well kept secret. Even the uncles play the role of members who have married into a family but are slightly kept out of "family business" even though it affects their spouses and their children. And that's why I'm glad to actually get their gifts back. To acknowledge that those roles are important in a familial structure.
Every time Mirabel worries about her place in the family, or loses hope, there are more cracks. The more she doubts the more cracks appear. She is the magic. :)
My theory about this is that Mirabel was / is intended by the Magic to take over after her grandmother as the caretaker of the house / candle. Remember the grandmother herself has no special powers except that her love for her husband ignited the candle. That's why Mirabel's "door" is the Front Door of the house.
6:43 STAHP… tell me why this is exactly when I looked up and even though I know he isn’t, definitely thought he was clutching your RU-vid plaque?! The placement!
Marabelle does have a power her power is being the heart of the house itself and she’s Supposed to take over her grandma’s spot is the head of the household
I love that it doesn't turn out that Mirabel has a gift thats better than every other, but that she's the caretaker to the Casita, similar to Abuela(who also doesn't have a magic gift.)
I've not been so totally obsessed by a Disney film since the original Beauty and the Beast. You can thank Lin-Manuel Miranda for the absolute genius songs in this film.
I've seen this movie so many freaking times! I actually bought it on RU-vid so I could show it to my family. I still love seeing Bruno jamming out to his own song lol Also the guy who voiced the toucan also voiced Heihei from Moana
Meanwhile: "Newsflash! Typhoon clouds are brewing in the middle of Encanto mountains. 6th time this week.. People are discourage to go near the mountains until the clouds..... wait.. Hale? oh.. it is Hale now.... "
you are the first one i have watched that noticed when they were taking the picture she didn't even try to get in it. It is the families fault too for just not noticing, but it comes down to both sides
Imagine if Bruno was taking a nap when the house fell apart. It would have made that scene so much more sadder than it already was but thankfully that "if" statement did not happen.
If you liked the music on Encanto you may want to consider watching Hamilton and In the Heights which are both written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the same composer.
I didn't care much for Isabela until she did her song. When she sang her part in, "Bruno", she said, "He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine." Yes. SOMEDAY. But not now, not after she was married, not until she realized that perfect was not the life of her dreams. She hid her feelings behind "practiced poses" and making miles of roses. She realized she could make something imperfect but still beautiful in its own way, and it applied to her as well. That was when she started living the life of her dreams and why SHE hugged Mirabel. Had she married "that dumb hunk", she would not have been happy and Bruno's prophecy would not have been fulfilled. Great reaction as always, Mary. :)
I agree with you - a feel good movie - did not know what this movie was about at the time - Watched with kids (makes me a Great Uncle) and they all liked it too to k me it was a good message is that everyone is special, which can show up sooner or in this case later
If you’re looking for any much series to watch, I really suggest Agent Carter. It centres on Peggy, and it’s honestly one of the best things the MCU has produced. Only if you want to though, it’s you’re decision!
I loved that show and I was so disappointed when they cancelled it. Peggy is a great character and Hayley Atwell is fantastic I really hope they do more with her.
La Casita was Mirabel's power. It only ever responds directly to Abuela, and Mirabel. They shared a gift, but their gift was the miracle itself, and the division between the way they saw the miracle caused it to fracture. It was only when they reconciled and learned to have a shared view that their family ITSELF was a miracle, that the magic could return.
She didn't get a Gift because she is the Gift. She will Replace abuela once she is gone and she will be the new head and for the rest of the movie Mirabel can talk to casita unlike to other family members. Mirabel itself is the Gift and she is special 👏♥️ and the candle flickering when mirabel didnt get a gift signifies that abuela's feeling toward mirabel became distant
"Maybe they should talk about Bruno" I wish they would, but then we wouldn't have had the amazing song that was about to follow. But then again they are technically singing about him, so what do I know?

Fabulous movie! Songs:Lynn Manuel Miranda. In the first 20 minutes Mirabel is disrespected or put down over 20 times, mostly by Grandma. In the pictures on the wall of G'ma and kids, G'ma is resting her hand on Isabellas shoulder, but not on any of her other Grandkids. Pepe, cloud sister, has to water the crops. The fabric and hair animation is amazing - did I say the fabric animation is amazing, it is! The line 'Nope. He flew away immediately' wasn't in the script, the actor just said it and the director liked it so it stayed. Same thing in Moana, 'Maui, Maui, you're so amazing' wasn't in the script. Mirabel led Antonio to his door when he got it, in the end Antonio led Mirabel to her door.
Isabella isn't that bad, she comes off as bad sometimes. But she just isn't happy and has to pretend all the time, also personally I never found her toxic or annoying.
So, I only now saw this film, and maybe there's something wrong with me, but I never once saw Abuela as "toxic" until the film _said_ she was. I just saw her as a family leader trying to keep things together (literally). She's never cruel, she encourages the family to always help the community, and even when she's slightly condescending to Mirabel, it's not done out of malice. When Mirabel says, "The magic is breaking because of _you_ " I was like, "Whoa, where did that come from??" But judging by every reaction I've seen of this, clearly I missed this toxicity that was apparently shown all through the film. Maybe that says something about me. It doesn't help that there are simply too many characters in this film. I couldn't keep up with any of their names apart from Bruno, and that's only because he has his name in a song. Didn't help that the opening song was too fast so none of the names stuck. And about Bruno (no pun intended), he's mentioned once in passing at the start, then doesn't come up again for, what, half an hour? Yet he's integral to the plot. Another problem with too many characters is that, with the exception of Isabela, no one has much time to develop. Luisa goes through her revelatory character arc in her _first scene_ (does she have a single line of dialogue before Mirabel goes to see her?), Delores' pining over Mariano is blink-and-you'll-miss-it (she mentions how he wants he and Isabel to have five kids like it's nothing to her), and Camilo could've been removed entirely. (And yes, I had to go on Wikipedia to look up all their names.)
I have a couple of comedy recommendations for you that I’m positive you’ll get a kick out of. First is My Cousin Vinny which has Joe Pesci as an inexperienced (to say the least) lawyer. It also his Marisa Tomei (Aunt May in the latest Spider-Man movies) who won an Oscar for her role. The other is Blast From The Past, a truly unique love story with Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone. Have fun and keep smiling!
I love that Isabellas fortune is what you'd call good but from her point of view its false or wasnt going to happen cause she was going into a marriage she didn't want
I know this is off topic, forgive me, I just discovered your reactions from 4 years ago to "Rome", one of my favorites along with "Spartacus" and "Black Sails" I just wanted to let you know that in 4 years, you have only gotten more beautiful. Happy New Year, I hope it's your best ever.

If you liked this, I reckon Tick Tick Boom! is another good choice to watch. I'm not usually into musicals either but Andrew Garfield's performance was good enough to make me enjoy the music.
