Thanks for your videos. What about the wires, pvc pipes, HVAC ducts etc. when soda blasting? It seems like it would do some damage. I appreciate the info, you seem like a very committed and professional guy.
Great question! The baking soda is enough to clear mold off but not do damage to wires, PVC, or ducts. This is why it works so well for this application! Not to mention the baking soda helps to neutralize the mold while blasting. Now if the ductwork is wrapped in insulation, there is a change of damaging it. But we usually have to remove that anyways since it is full of moisture or molded. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hey! Sorry, just realized I never replied! We do use a commercial soda blaster. Though I started with a handheld one from harbor freight and a 10gal compressor. Took forever! (Like 4 days straight) But got the job done. Just need to make sure you have multiple water separators and get the soda media that’s at harbor freight as well. It’s more granulated than regular powdery baking soda and won’t clump as easy.
I get soda blasting removes it from the wood, but are the spores not still present in the space? Do you give it time to dissipate before encapsulating? Thank you!
Hey Daniel, great question! Baking soda is a natural neutralizer so it helps neutralize the mold spores as they are removed. We also have multiple negative air fans running while we blast to help keep the crawl space in a negative air state. Lastly, we fog the whole area with a mold cleaner. So once we start laying the liner and sealing up the space, the mold has been taken care of in multiple different ways.
We just mean actually removing the mold from the wood compared to just spraying it with a mold killer. We remove all the mold spores off the wood, not remove the actual wood.
