You can use a travel iron ( but not the ones with steam holes) and if it has a non-stick surface you will need to sand it off. The purpose made irons have a better thermostat.

Ive always melted my wax medium and painting it onto a natural surface such as wood.

@CoxJoxSox I get my equipment from Wakes Waxes (waxes. co. uk) and Arts Encaustic (encaustic. com), but I don't know if they deliver outside the UK. If you're US-based, I think Dick Blick (sp?) do Encaustic equipment. Failing that - eBay.

which paint to use on iron - wax square crayons, or regular wax crayons or oil pastels ? pls reply. this is a good background painting.

I use a travel iron as it's smaller than a domestic iron, which you can use too. However once you've used the iron for encaustic painting, it's a good idea to reserve it for that purpose only.

They suggest to be experts, and then you watch and see most of them are not very good at what they do, and then you think maybe it's some sort of satire, and then you realize it probably isn't, and then you know you've wasted a few minutes.
