@@thespiffingbrit The Umbral Choir can be a very strong faction because of their flexibility of being able to occupy the same systems as other factions and the limited opportunities for others to slow down your invisible expansion...assuming you know exactly how the faction mechanics work and are intimately familiar with the obtuse and unexplained hacking UI. Not exactly something that can be accomplished with an active turn timer.

Umbral Choir are stronger the smaller the map is. On small, I think you need....3 obelisks of space time? Also, easier to sanctuary the home system of each faction the smaller the map.

@@thespiffingbrit We all know you can get there. You did kinda choose the most confusing faction in the history of 4x games. It's *really* cool, mind you. But confusing as hell.

I really think Duncan would love the Vaulters. Not only are a they a good science faction (check) but they have very strong starter mechanics (check) with a lot of flexibility and their golden ages mean you can always make a comeback from a bad turn of events (check). It's basically perfect to keep Duncan from just giving up after 2 things go wrong. I think Sophons are actually pretty hard to play.

True true actually. I had a Sophon run that went nowhere but ruin, and a Vaulter run where they put me on the ropes a couple times- but I always ended up having one spare system out on the fringe somewhere. Didn't take the big win but easily maintained relevance til the end

why would it rip itself apart when you're only spinning it fast enough to lower the gravity. not reverse gravity lol

@@thestonedraider8684 Because gravity is what keeps celestial bodies together, if you lower the gravity you also decompress them and make them unstable. There's a reason terrestrial planets don't spin very fast naturally. If you accellerate their spin significantly you will start to experience extreme seizmic activity, the friction from which will melt the entire crust into lava. To have any effect on surface level experience of gravity you'd have to spin it even faster, way beyond the point at which the planet is capable of sustaining its shape.

@@ze_rubenator so, yea like i said its lowering it. so i supose it depends on how much it needs to stay stable. and seeing as plannets can be much smaller than earth and stay together i reason you could go pretty low with the gravity. if you Could accelarate the spin it would need to be done over many many years anyway.

I was tempted to give it a look then I saw they wanted full price for the game and were selling extra races individually for around £10 which felt scummy.

@@Dream146 Can get the complete edition for about 60 but it goes on sale every so often too if that's still too much. I'd definitely recommend it if you're a 40k fan and can get it for a price you are comfortable with. The 3 man team who made it have done a really good job supporting the game since release.

Yeah, it was... It's been pretty confusing lately with not being able to tell which session these are coming from. But generally Yogs Live gets is a straight upload from the Twitch vods, whereas the other channels get slightly edited/cut up versions to remove the breaks and certain downtimes.

It just means they have different mechanics that take a little while to understand if you have no idea how the game works

They're not 'hard' just confusing. Endless Space 2 turns alot of 4x tropes around in exciting ways (Umbral Choir cohabitation, Vaulter's actually rewarding tall societies, literally everything about the unfallen). But if you're trying to figure out the game from scratch it's going to feel like a lot.

I think it depends a lot what you're looking for. If you want a game that's aimed to be more competitive and structured, ES2 is definitely better. If you want a game that's more immersive and sandboxy, less competitive in nature, then Stellaris is best. ES2 is very "gamey" or like a classic boardgame whilst if Stellaris would be a boardgame it'd be D&D rather than something closer to Chess. ES2 your aim is to min-max, whilst Stellaris gives you options not to cause it's not about that. Personally I adore ES2 and think it's an amazing game, but realize that after a while I get pretty exhausted from all the numbers, min-maxing and lack of more immersive visuals rather than "visuals for game mechanics", as ES2's map is like looking at a boardgame map. Stellaris is more my type as I just love the roleplay aspect and how the map you look at feels less like a boardgame and more like a visual representation of the real galaxy. That said I love diplomacy and ES2's diplomacy is pretty darn amazing, my favorite part is you can play a complete pacifist and still conquer other people's systems and planets simply through undermining their influence and diplomatic strength. Stellaris has lacked diplomacy but with Federations around the corner it's looking a lot brighter, even though interactions between empire to empire seems to still be lacking.

I think ES2 seems like it's just about as good as Stellaris, although Stellaris is my preference by far. (I will say though, Stellaris is kinda hard to watch - or play - without the background music, or just some kind of background music, playing... and that game is easily one of my favorites.)

Tyragon I find ES2 lacks depth compared to stellaris. It's very one dimensional and everything ends up devolving into war. Stellaris as you stated is much more open like D&D. Cant say I've had any problem with the diplomacy in stellaris tbh, my biggest problem in that regard is being capped in influence quite often, like once you have friends etc there's not much to do with influence, is that what you meant?

@@AkkarinDarkmoor ES2 has tons of non-war mechanics. If anything, Stellaris is still one good DLC from having a competitive diplomacy system. I'm sure they'll get there, but from a *mechanical* perspective ES2 executes on these ideas in a smooth and polished way while Stellaris is still stumbling to try and find a good execution after what amounts to 2 total mechanical refreshes of the game. I hope Stellaris gets there, but I think that if you're asking folks to play a competitive game ES2 just provides a lot more structure. I'm a bit sad that the Guys(tm) didn't even bother trying to learn anything about ES2 before playing. I get that they're professional gamers so they have to manage their time investment in any one game wisely. But this could have gone a lot better. I even suggested factions to them in the Stellaris comments (which got pushed to the top) so that they could know what factions to read a quick guide for, since every faction is pretty unique.

Why? I think it's very entertaining and great fun when people go in blind into a game.

Dr When I get where you’re coming from but spiff has too much character and that’s like asking for no Duncan because he just moans all the time and does his own thing and doesn’t do what he’s meant ticthen complains when it goes wrong Or just being annoyed by ped like I am in the most recent videos coz he’s usually annoying to people and goes crazy doing RDM and having a new small model doesn’t help

@Ivar the Boneless god i would love it if they got rid of whiny duncan, get ben instead, or tom, they are so much more grown up and chilled and very likely 1000-fold better at strategy games than duncan - and dont get rid of spiff, he is most of the time the only one who can challenge lewis in these setups
