“Most gynecolocists don’t have time to listen about painful periods”.. wth?! It’s LITERALLY their job description! What the hell else do they have time for then!
@reneeredekop7458

she is stating thats how gynos feel. they truly behave in such a manner thou . even when you have sat down and discussed the fact that your child has endometriosis they still balk at you tell you its all in their head. been there heard that by 3 so called specialists. they just want u on medications bc they get paid for each time u accept it. anyone who receives lupron or orilissa or visanne as treatment options just know thats a huge kick back that your specialist receives. whether it be lavish dinners , trips, other incentives . just watch how big of a hissy fit they throw when you tell them NO . my daughter has been passed down to another specialist each time she has refused. shes refused 4 times to take lupron again. & orilissa once and orilissa has never been tested on children 18 & under. my child is a minor and they wanted to do their own guinea pig testing trails on her. i cant imagine how many others have undergone the gaslighting from their specialists . its a sad world we live in.

Renee Redekop yea I’ve had bad an uninformed experiences with the doctors too. It’s mind blowing that gyns can know so little about endometriosis!

She had a good point though about how insurance is really to blame for that. They can only allow so much time for what our insurance pays for. So it seems that the real issue is our healthcare system and also just the fact that everything is so extremely expensive👎🏻

keepinitreal it’s so much worse than that even, I saw MULTIPLE gynos who told me I couldn’t have Endo because I had kids FALSE!! They also told me I couldn’t have it because I had a hysterectomy FALSE AGAIN!! actually many many women have had hysterectomies because their Gyno believed it would cure their endo and it does not!

@Joshua VanAllen is not about being a victim. Even if u go to school majority won’t be part of the elite that can “afford” quality healthcare. My motto is work as hard as you can even if that only gets u to middle class and u should have the right to good quality healthcare whether u are a kindergarten teacher or a self made millionaire (being dramatic here). No one is acting like a victim we, the working class, are simply asking for equal rights in healthcare.

There are some things I disagree with what Dr Aliabadi says. Thankfully with endometriosis slowly becoming more known, I also think it's dangerous (and sad) to 'discuss' it without being completely informed about endo. I strongly believe Drs NEED to be more educated on the female anatomy surrounding periods and endometriosis. I've unfortunately talked to many drs who have said untrue things about endo INCLUDING gynos who specialise in Endo. Birth controls, iuds etc is ONLY a temporary treatment usually for uterine pain and or bleeding (common endo symptoms) BUT IT DOES NOT treat it. She didn't even discuss the ways endo is diagnosed and treated, and instead went straight into suggesting bcs. You're diagnosed with either stage 1-4 endo via a laparoscopic "keyhole" surgery and the BEST way to remove and treat it (and if done right by a "nook doctor" -read below), patients can be symptom free for YEARS) is by excision surgery. She also just referenced "zapping" which she means the ablation method of endo removal which ALSO doesn't remove endo, just the upper layer that can be seen to the eye and doesn't remove the root of endo like excision does + the occurrence rate of endo after excised by a proper specialist is less than 20% which is great. Ps im also not saying that excision is the only "cure" for endo as there is NO cure of the disease itself, rather LIMITING endo symptoms to the best it can (done first & foremost via proper excision removal of endo + hopefully all other pain inducing avenues like pcos is treated etc). Im just absolutely CRINGING at the fact she said "there is NO non-hormonal treatments for endometriosis", im sorry, but to make such a bold statement without being properly informed (irregardless of the fact that she had done this for years hence why i also said ive seen drs who specialise in this field sayings myths) is incredibly upsetting. Doctors DEFINITELY too need to be educated just as much as patients do. PS- patients can be absolutely asymptomatic of this disease, meaning they have no textbook endo symptoms and can be diagnosed with stage 4 endo. A patient can be said to have "no endo" by 1 dr but when examined properly there is stage 4 endo present. This is why its SO important to see a Dr who KNOWS exactly what they're doing (and not just claim they've been doing it for years". I STRONGLY encourage for everyone who wants more accurate information about this to join the fb group "Nancy's Nook Endometriosis Education" (this is NOT a support group, only an endometriosis resource library and "nook drs" around the world who are highly trained in excision surgery of this disease is recommended-btw you MUST answer the questions prior to being accepted into the group as the page is only increasing in numbers and PLEASE follow the rules).

4o'clock Moonchild - Everything you laid out is 100% factual. I've been dealing with so much pain and unfortunately for me I'm noticing the older I get, the worse my pain is. I'm now 46 and I have yet to find a doctor who I can trust but that seems to be the case for all types of doctors in my city. It's much talked about at the Mayo Clinic in a nearby state that the healthcare in my city is ranked as one of the worst in the US. The running joke when I worked at an insurance company was, if you want to die, go to a doctor office or hospital here. Anyway, I've been given all kinds of advice and I still feel discouraged. Thank you for the info about the endo resource library. I will have to check it out.

Yeah I just seen my genecologist today.... When I had got surgery my mother was informed that they told her they had wanted to start me on a treatment which is one shot every month for 6 months... But when I go to the office today it was a completely different situation.... It felt like and I can agree on her on that to have that she must have had so many other patience so we can I just sit there and wait for me to make a decision... That's the rub I'm thinking I was going into the office today to start this supposedly treatment iis and to go more into depth about what this treatment is.. but instead she brings up the marina IUD that she highly recommended.. since I have a as she said stage 1 to stage 2... Because I to deal with painful menstrual cycles trying to eat in or drink and I will just throw up..and my pain would be a sharp intense sometimes lingering from my book or vaginal region up to my abdomen , the movements etc and I'd always miss work unless not treated then it's kinda like suffer then .. yet I went to hospitals and they do their exams and say I don't see any issue even pelvic and give me pain medication but it's never a thought okay this person has a history....excuse me but do you have endometriosis which I NEVER heard of that before until my grandmother expressed concern because she has endometriosis when she was younger and had to be treated..so I had to go through three obgyns all female and the last one dismissed me because I was not properly taking my birth control pills because I switched off the depo that was making me irregular plus it's own side effects since I was a teenager to an 24 young adult today .. I tried to express my concerns and wanted to try another method she dismissed it but not a single one said hey sounds like endometriosis until I seen one obgyn HOWEVER again as I stated before she informed my mother of this treat they were wanting to do and that's what I thought my appointment today was supposed to be about .. instead I felt rushed and instead of what she originally informed my mother and she informed me after my surgery I was given options , marina because they always highly recommend it but with a 50% which did not make me feel confident or injection which causes early stage of menopause but being in a young 24 they do not want to do that due to more " major " side effects than the merina which she only discussed " irregular bleeding " or spotting but nothing else . I know everyone body is different that is just my main concern being with my prior birth control experience from depo to pills to back to depo because they told me either depo or IUD bit if I want the surgery to see if I have endometriosis and I said sure because it set in the back of my mind. And for me it made me feel frustrated and stress because I felt rushed or as if they're trying to as you stated push " certain " " treatment" upon you because as you stated it's beneficial for them with patients with such and I do hope to have a family later down the road , despite my preference . . My other main concern is because I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome the beginning of this year which is becoming more advertised now after I was diagnosed and I did research with the " possiblity " for women it effecting their menstruation

4o'clock Moonchild it’s obvious that If it was a male issue there would be a cure It really is factual I had my period average 5 times a month and I didn’t go on to birth control until 3 years ago and now I get some months no cycle other months part cycle but my pain is still there I have had it for 7 years now I use to pass out in my middle school days because the pain was that bad and still is

What's even more sad is even if you can afford insurance, it leaves you barely being able to afford regular appointments let alone actual surgery for the issues. On top of that, there are not enough endometriosis specialists for when we do need diagnosis and surgery. Diagnosis itself is an invasive procedure to diagnose. We need well trained professionals. We don't have that, in my town there is one and he has been known to nick peoples insides- the other options are 2+ hours away and even some of THOSE patients chose to come to the specialist I've had to settle with. I'm terrified of something going wrong during or after the surgery and not having adequate follow up care. We need more funding all around. Money shouldn't be an issue 😢

IT IS POSSIBLE REGARDLESS WHAT,, GURUS,, TELLING YOU! NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF. And weight loss...for a long time i thought I am fat without realizing it was just a chronic inflammation-make anti-inflammatory diet a LIFESTYLE and watch the magic happens...not only you gonna lose weight, get rid of the pain and bloating but if you stick with it endo will become only a distant memory. As I have came across this video, I'm amazed. I have it. I had a hysterectomy last year, 36. I STILL have major issues, including the endometriosis growing all over my intestines. I never had kids, and I wanted them terribly. However, I also wanted my health to be better. Most of the time life is wonderful, and sometimes not. I took birth control for 6 years, and it worked only because I finally was able to continuously use it, and not have periods. Then my body started bleeding for 3, going on 4 mnths. Yep, I was done. I also had an abnormally small uterus. I have one ovary left, adhesions that love to develop fast. Female life sucks for me. But this lady explains very thoroughly. Thank you.

Yea, my wife's been dealing with a number of issues, finally diagnosed. The hormone treatments are a joke, and highly problematic for many women. The key is finding a surgeon who specializes in endometriosis and excision surgery. The doctor in the video above is recommending treatment that may be unhelpful, and the ablation style surgery often doesn't resolve the problem. Excision involves digging deeper into the surrounding tissue, and excising the endometriomas. We've been looking at the Center for Endometriosis Care, but it's a long way to go.

To the women reading comments here is my advise after dealing with this disease for over 2 decades: 1. Find an expert in Endo and leave you obgyn for Pap smears and routine things. OBGYNs do not spend enough time dealing with the disease to treat you properly. All they will do is put you on hormone after hormone while you deal with all the side effects. I went 10 years dealing with different OBGYNs that did nothing. This last August went to a specialist. By December, my endo was already removed and I am getting my pain under control. 2. Find an expert that also does EXCISION surgery. Having a laparoscopy done with ablation only will usually cause the endo to grow right back which is what my first OBGYN did. 3. It can be exhausting but in this society we are our own advocates. So don’t give up!!! You deserve to feel good and live life to it’s fullest. There are doctors out there that aren’t only in it for the money and will listen to you! If you have to drive 3 hours to get to a good doctor like I did, I tell you it is worth it!

Yeah my periods got much lighter just by losing weight. I went from 230 to 160 in 5 years (I'm 5'11). I used to bleed through a super tampon in an hour. But I still have really irregular bizarre periods. Mainly brown blood and giant clots that could fill up a shot glass. Now the bleeding itself really doesn't bother me. It's all the pelvic pain, back pain, brain fog, other pain, rectal stabbing (butt lightning). It all continued to get worse while the bleeding itself did improve. I thought I didn't even have endo until recently despite having a very stereotypical story. My OBGYN didn't think so either because I'm not anemic. But I'm in extreme pain and probably going to have surgery by the end of the year. Feel like my youth has been wasted feeling like shit and thinking I'm insane because nobody understands

Update: after a few weeks the pain stopped and I’ve been period free and pain free ever since. But I’m 47 so for me, I have the luxury of not being in a position to get pregnant. Which is why I waited until I was 46 to do this. I wish you all relief from this hideous condition. Very cool informative video. I always addressed my painful periods unsuccessfully. Last year I had a ureteral reimplantation because the undiagnosed endometriosis caused an obstruction on my ureter (distal) connecting to my bladder. Awful experience. That tells a lot about how silent and dangerous this disease is and how negligent gynecologists can be. I was lucky to keep my kidney (left) but lost almost all its function. After one year on birth control I feel like I am starting to get back on track. Thanks, Mona!!

I found out in 2004 that I have endometriosis because I went to the hospital and couldn't breathe, I had a hemorrhaging chocolate cyst. I was told it was poisoning my blood and that I needed emergency surgery immediately. I had laparoscopic surgery that day. All my life up until 2004 I was told I was being dramatic and overreacting. But it is not normal to throw up from pain from your period. It is not normal to shake uncontrollably from the pain. It's not normal to not be able to function, and have to stay home putting your job security in danger. It is an incredible amount of pain. I wish I had a lot of money because it is painful to live with this.

I have PCOS and Fibroids. Taking out the fibroid in a few weeks and my doctor stated that he would take care of any endometriosis while doing the Fibroid removal, that's why I'm watching this. This is very helpful to know because I have been that person who stays home because of a period even before my fibroids got bad. So helpful and really appreciate this, and the PCOS video too. Thanks a lot.

Mona thank you so much this was such an incredibly informative video. Im literally 33 and going through exactly what shes saying and ive been avoiding bc because like she said, i thought they make you infertile and I am very into natural and holistic. Had the same issue of my Dr brushing me off saying I was just having a painful period and to stop complaining, but I was 2 weeks late, excruciating cramps just like she said first 2 days before they 2 days after then a week before, its like crazy hearing her talk about this. I will follow her on IG but most importantly can she recommend a GYN dr in NY, I am not in LA anymore. Ty so much Mona this gave some peace of mind and I just started a low dose bc for the 1st time in 10 years, today to help me🙏. Ty ty ty

If only there would be more doctors like her. I wish to hear that, when I first came to gynegologist. I changed quite a few doctors, they put me on low estrogen pills, but it didn't help after years of pain it went only on worse! I want to have children now, but have trouble. Doctors should be more educated, they should see a person as a whole, all the symptoms...and educate patients. We spent so much money, especially in Europe where we have state covered health care, for curing the consequences of these disease instead investing into prevention! @Dr. Mona Vand, thank you for making this interview and inviting a great expert. Dr. Aliabadi explain it in a way that anyone can understand the point. And that tells a lot about the doctor's expertise. Looking forward to more of interviews like this!

I had a tubal pregnancy that burst. I ended up in emergency surgery, three months later began my journey with Endo. Almost exactly five years later to the day, I had a complete hysterectomy. Thinking back on the pain of Endo, even now thirty five years later is very difficult. My pain was such that I would throw myself into walls trying to get rid of it. I would end up in the ER and always got a shot of Demerol. The last shot I got had no effect and my obgyn said, enough is enough and suggested the hysterectomy. All I know is that the suppression of the female hormone, estrogen is the only way to deal with Endo effectively. Until my tubal, I never had that pain, but did have cramps like most women..sometimes really bad, but not that pain. I know the doctor that did my emergency surgery for my tubal was trying to save my life, but I think the blood that got into my pelvic area and not cleaned out well is what created my Endo. Btw most of my Endo lesions were located in the cul de sac which is located deep behind uterus, on every nerve endings according to my doctor. So although during my three endoscopies they thought they were getting it all, they had no idea until my hysterectomy just how bad it was. Endo does not run in my family either side, and thank GOD neither of my daughters. One is 42 and the other is 38 do not have any signs of it and never did.

Felt happy that my pain is gone before, during and after periods however its started up again last month. Wish I knew that it would come back so quick and bit messed up that they did not provide me with the birth control knowing that it can. Thanks for the information.

Hi Mona!! I wanted to leave a comment because I have endometriosis (I was diagnosed about five years ago), and I think the view of conventional doctors is often a bit one-sided. There are DEFINITELY things you can do to help with endo pain and progression that don't involve hormone therapy. 600mg of NAC 3x per day has been a game changer for me, also Wobenzym N in the morning on an empty stomach, as well as Serrapeptase... I've heard CBD oil is also great for pain management, but I have not tried this yet... And in addition to all this, an anti-inflammatory diet is key. This means cutting out dairy, sugar and gluten in particular. Abstaining from coffee and alcohol also helps. You mentioned beauty and skincare in this video, and while I don't think that the chemicals in our personal care products CAUSE endometriosis, many products (particularly those containing parbens) are estrogenic, meaning they mimic estrogen in our body, which can lead to an estrogen dominance, which can progress and worsen endometriosis. Chemicals like oxybenzone (commonly found in sunscreens) have been linked to endometriosis. So have dioxins which are in our meat supply and even our tampons (a byproduct of bleaching cotton). The fact is, no one knows what causes endometriosis. And while there is a strong genetic link (my mom also had it), there is definitely an environmental component, and there are lifestyle changes we can each make to help slow it's progression. Suppression therapy may work for some, but it isn't right for everyone. While I totally appreciate the opinion of any medical expert, the fact of the matter is, this disease is a mystery, so it's impossible to say that there is only one viable treatment option. That said, I think it's really awesome that you're bringing awareness to endometriosis and using your platform to help women understand and treat this disease. Xx

My GP tried various types of the pill with me, because my periods were so painful I had to stay home from work. In fact, one time it was so bad that other workers asked if I was feeling okay, period started that day at work. They said I looked as white as a sheet, but I refused to go home and took the only tablets which ever worked for me, and they worked about 90+% of the time for me - Feminax. The only trouble with these tablets was that they could give you a dry mouth, make you feel nauseous, and definitely made me feel very drowsy, but I always felt that was a price worth paying just to get rid of the pain. I would have that pain for about 3 or 4 days of my 7 day period, and I used to hate that week, I used to count the hours of the day until I would start to get better. So, I am now 54, and started on the menopause about 10 years ago. I thought I would have all sorts of horrendous symptoms with my menopause, but, it has really been plain sailing. One thing is for sure, though, I am glad I no longer have to go through all that pain once a month anymore. Oh, almost forgot, during my period, for about the first two or three days, my appetite would be a little suppressed, I would not feel as hungry as I did the rest of that nasty week, or the rest of the month.

Yes! Many doctors tell you it's normal to have pain. NOBODY takes it seriously. My periods have worsened over the yrs, from 1 day of severe pain to 4 days, and 3/4 of mild pain before my period or an entire week. I get pelvic pain now randomly without my period, it's my body and I know something is not right. I'm vomiting and in extreme pain. Just wish I can find 1 doctor who actually cares to help rather than tell you you're exaggerating. I know not all cases can be taken seriously but I have watched people who are extremely sick and doctors telling them, they had nothing wrong.😔

hi, thank you for sharing this information. my 14 yr old daughter suffers from severe stage 4 endometriosis , endometriosis on bowels , adenomyosis , retrograde cycles since age 9 and Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuester-Hauser Syndrome 1 & has had a Vaginoplasty . she was dxd at age 12 .. since then she has seen 3 " specialists" and each one refuses to do surgeries for her. why is it so difficult finding one that will listen. :( i wish more drs were like you ! one that actually explains her conditions to her fully. we have resorted to doing our own research . medically speaking she is in need of expert excision surgery, vaginoplasty redone properly this time, hysterectomy for quality of life , hemmorhagic cyst removed from left ovary as shes had endometriomas drained from both ovaries and both fallopian tubes removed as well as her vaginal septum and 500 cc units of blood removed from under developed uterus. if her conditions are this terrible why do drs INSIST on her doing Ivf treatments at age 17. you would think drs would discuss adoption instead as her endo & other reproductive system anomolies are higher at risk to being passed down to future children. however drs tell her she can not adopt instead she NEEDS to have her own children. i find this rather disgusting in wanting to use a child as a guinea pig for experimental procedures.

I just had endometriosis surgery last week. And this video makes alot of sense relating to the IUD placement. I had been dealing with infertility issues since we talked about planning for kids 6 yrs ago, which is also the time I stopped the birth control to try. Everything the doctor described is pretty much where I'm at, at 34 just now diagnosed with it because it was never visible on any diagnostic surgeries even 2 years ago. Unfortunately there wasn't really much else I coulda done to prevent this or even afford egg freezing 10 yrs ago. So we're leaving it in the hands of recommendation of OB gyn and RE on how to proceed for the next few months I have in this window of a chance and attempt IVF again before my only option is early hysterectomy.

However I am in chronic constant pain which increases leading up to and during my period (yes in on hormones, 4 pills a day actually). In a few weeks I'm expecting to be put into artificial menopause, I really hopes this helps stop the bleeding and the pain getting worse certain times of the month. I except I have chronic pain now but to have my chronic pain more stable will help me to have a more normal life and stop my seizures
