in my father's tribe girls are source of wealth. men have to bring cows, goats, money, and even buy land if they want to marry into the family. it's a sign of appreciation for raising the wife. if you have 10 daughters, you could start a ranch. lol!! sons only take the wealth.

That might been practiced a century ago it is not practiced now. As a matter of fact some cultures in Africa treat the daughters fairer than the sons, the reason been that the daughter is only briefly with the parents and she will be spending most of her existence with her husband.The sons are taught to be tough and take care of the women. It was so deeply rooted in me that even as a fourteen year old kid, I wouldn't eat my portion of food until I am sure my kid sister is well fed.
