I remember when I first watched this back in High School in Grade 10 History Class. This has to be one of my favourite moments from the movie in my opinion.
She wants to protect her area... Guy: "we will replace you with 12 soldiers" Her: "Id rather stay and fight" Lol, no logic...you want to protect your area...but you're saying no to bringing in +11 soldiers.
The strange thing for me is, you think of Snipers taking precision long range shots. But here they are shooting it out in a building. Gotta go where your targets are I guess.
Interestingly enough, there not only is no evidence to prove he exist, but also Vasily is the only sniper who claims to have killed him, Despite the fact that German snipers and Soviet snipers battle each other throughout the Battle of Stalingrad. Realistically and most likely Vasily had just killed a random German sniper who was simply giving him some trouble, but not some famed German sniper that was popular and some major rank, as a matter of fact, that’s even MORE unlikely. Vasily was most likely just bragging about his kill rather than it being true, not to say he doesn’t deserve his reputation, but it is a very odd claim especially for something so broad.
@@ArcticWolf00Alpha0 You are absolutely right, bro. Not only that, it is unlikely that the German High Command would send their most skilled sniper to Stalingrad, when they were fighting a bloody war along the vast Eastern Front and in North Africa.
@@kevinbabu8919 exactly. Also, if Vasilys claim was true, why did he not find the body or have any pictures taken of it, one would think that you would want to have as much proof as possible of such a kill, but German records dont even show he exist. Which says a lot...
Poor girl. Women do tend to freak out in very stressful situations. They never were really suited to fight in the most intense battles. As snipers they were fantastic, sitting back and picking their targets. But in the rubble of Stalingrad and the constant shelling and bombardment, that is not an environment they can really cope with
@@jonathangonzales4115 You are comparing strong females to weak males. Despite not a fair comparison I am okay with that. For me Most of today's western soyboys who sit behind computer all day eating cheese burgers are no better than women. They won't survive 1 week if they were send to 39-43 Stalingrad or country on war in any era. It will be really great too see what kind of preparation today's generation have something like WW3. IF its really happeneds the casuality will be as close 1 billion and half of them will be suicide.
@kevin smith not even close to being remotely true. The Millennial generation will never compare to the greatest generation. You must be forgetting that those men voluntarily chose to serve their country in extremely high numbers after Pearl Harbor. Today's generation of 'men' would have been thoroughly pulverized by the German Wehrmacht.
Weird hearing that siberian sniper talk perfect english with that accent. The movie was in difficult position being a hollywood film. Either all the actors need to put on a convincing russian accent within that given time period, and its improbable everyone could, ruining the experience if it was bad. OR...speak perfect english, and make it seem jarring given that its set in russia. Its even stranger since everyone speaks in a strange english accent... Good film overall though, if they cut the love triangle crap it wouldve been even better since it was kinda schlocky
Yeah. It's better if everyone spoke English with an American or British accent (as little accent as possible). That way it's clear that we know the characters are *supposed* to be speaking Russian, but we are just hearing English out of cinematic license. It's as though it's dubbed in English, without being dubbed. It would be more strange if they speak English with a Russian accent. Because it leads to the question, "why are they speaking English in the first place?"
There is a heirarchy of accents in Hollywood and the UK because of the market. From good-guy to bad-guy the accents are American, British, German, Russian. Since this is a UK film the good-guys have to have British accents. The good-guys are also Russian but Russian accents are always reserved for bad guys like in all James Bond movies. Note that the bad guys in this movie are Germans and most of them retain German accents except Konig. He's a mix of being a bad guy but he's also in a position of being the second protagonist. So he neither gets the German accent nor the British accent and of course, not a Russian accent.
Dragonfire111 he didn't know that it was going to happen. Communication between the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht and back again, operating in disputed territory, unguided bombs, bomber crew had no idea a German sniper was in the building nor would they be able to locate the building to not drop a bomb on it, German soldier couldn't communicate with the aircraft. It was just coincidence for many reasons.
One of the soviet unions most decorated snipers of the war was a woman. And oddly enough she shared the same name is the woman in this scene. Ludmilla pavlichenko (i probably butchered her name spelling) look her up.
The disadvantage of the russian was the optics The German ones let in more light which is essential to fighting in darker conditions, such as these buildings
@@MrDwarfpitcher Magnified optics quality would be irrelevant in a cramped, low light environment such as this. If there is an advantage to the K98, it is that it is shorter in length and more maneuverable in tight spaces. The Mosin Nagant 91/30 is a good weapon, but it is significantly longer in length. Of course, the soldiers fought with whatever they had available.
My friend bought one online for $150 and it had six notches carved into it, also the firing pin was WAY too far forward if it was fired like that it would of blown up. Took a lot of work to fix everything but it was a really fun fun to shoot.
Where is the battle though? I understand the budget doesn't allow for constant action in the background, but adding sounds of intense warfare would make it more believable. These scenes are always as though, the battle has been over for weeks and there are mere strugglers left.
@@Vinicantstopcrying Hitler Youth ranged in age from 12 to 17. Never underestimate the capacity of a child soldier's ability to kill an expensively trained adult soldier conscript or professional.
You ought to watch The Sound of Music for the Austrians with English Accents, Ben Hur for the Romans with English accents and Doctor Zhivago and Nicholas and Alexandra for more Russians with English accents. And then there's Genghis Khan were all the Asians are from Europe, except Genghis Khan who was from Egypt.
Not Mongol and not Tatar the character it's quite wrong, a lot of soviet snipers were from Siberia but they looked more Asian than this person. There weren't any Mongol or Tatar snipers in Stalingrad.
