Haha, I know this feeling so good. Especially as someone who does a lot of technical stuff as a hobby I kinda start to doubt myself when the tech just skips out on me. Often with no apparent reason of course, just not in the mood to work properly today. So yeah, unleash the rant now and then, it feels good and I bet it also helps the tech stuff to work as well. ;)
Haha! I feel your pain. This is why I am always reluctant to quickly upgrade anything these days. Always a bug or two, and something else breaks or isn’t supported anymore. Our world keeps getting more and more complicated. I long for a simple tech life where things just work MOST of the time. 😅
There is this software development practice called continuous update, where they just release to a subset of users whatever changes are checked in to the repository every evening. Basically forcing that subset of users to be the systems assurance testers for their product. It's cheap for the company, and gets new features out fast. But it sucks to be the user. Because of this practice, I keep auto updates turned off om my devices.
This is no different than getting ready for a presentation or facing a tight deadline, and Windows 11 decides that at boot, a critical update that "fixes" a portion of the OS I've never heard of HAS TO BE UPDATED. And everything GRINDS TO A H A L T.
I have rants against tech like this. I’d film them but then they would need 95% bleeped out! The wait for your video just makes it all the sweeter when it does drop! Take your time and don’t stress :-)
I think you need to make Enemy2tech. Today I was doing some stuff in power automate...and MS pushed out an update and something I've done 200 times no longer works. I could have easily smashed 3k in tech. It would be very therapeutic to see others dealing with the same crap.
There is a reason why some people prefer using older software that simply works for them, even if they miss out on updates that might be unnecessary for them. The big one arises when an automatic system update disrupts and potentially affects installed programs.
As a software developer, I completely understand the pain... Dealing with bugs and software updates daily, so I myself can also fix and send software updates XD feels like a never ending cycle for the utopia where it all just works, and no one is ever able to hack/compromise any software or hardware ever again...
In the ‘80s, I used to say “If you haven’t been using the software all morning, it doesn’t exist”, which was hyperbolic, but indicative of my frustration. Then there was an interval when Apple seemed pretty reliable about plug and play, and all the devices working together. Now my heart sinks when stuff that used to work disappears; or when Apple makes false claims (“Do you want to delete this text message from all your devices?” Yes, Yes, Yes!) Makes me think I am too old for this scat. 😢 Nonetheless, I am trying to breathe in calm and breathe out smiles, trying to stay sane.
It’s the same issue as with gaming. When updates over the internet were not a thing because games were distributed on cds, stuff just had work and had to be tested thoroughly. Now you have tons of bugs and 0 day patches with tons of GBs of data
Had the exact same thing happen to me with a teleprompter app that I'd been using just fine for at least 3 years and then they decided to "make it better" and rendered it useless. That was over a year ago. I couldn't keep waiting on them to fix what they broke, so I learned how to just use the prompter with a continuous scroll instead of voice activation or other controls and I haven't looked back. I definitely feel your pain. Everything was working just fine and then they decided to break it.
For years I was an “Always turn on Auto updates” kind of guy. Then 2-3 situations like this changed my mind. Now I leave them off (and I never sign up for Beta releases either - that’s just asking for trouble) and life is way easier. The time to update is when YOU choose. Only you know when it suits. Best of luck pal, I’ve been that soldier!
On Android I turn off auto updates when I know I need things to not break during a project. Just turn it back on when done. Easy. If you are up for it, you can even keep manual updates all the time, but you'll want to stay on top of any security patches that get released.
I am technologically challenged. Computers don’t like me. I reciprocate the feeling. Latest example. Just bought a XH1 and went to the fishermen’s terminal. It was a bright day and didn’t have a ND filter. The lens was set to f16. The exposure compensation wouldn’t go below +2. I was trying for -3. Had to set the shutter to 1/8000. The film simulation was stuck on Across. The film simulations were greyed out and I couldn’t figure out why. I wanted to shoot in color. I’m afraid the XH1 was in a B&W mood. Computer 2. Me 0. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
This is me seated with Windows current updates 🥴😵 I wish they understand some of these bug fixture we never get to know what they are tend to be more buggy than what was working perfectly already. Anyway waiting for the review yes please!
It's the 21st century. Tech should be better. Yet there are more bugs than ever. And my biggestt gripe is that we cannot get apps that do what we want.
As a software developer, you really have no idea what the dev and QA teams are going through. It’s almost certainly the upper management pushing out software that the devs know isn’t ready, combined with the fact that software is more complex these days than ever before. If you truly don’t want updates, please use an analog teleprompter. Most updates are for your security anyways. That being said, god damn constant required updates are frustrating.
Hey fella, where is the x100vi review? You are the best, but you're making us wait. I don't want to watch peta pixel because I find that little Canadian fella kinda obnoxious.
I agree. Jordan and that little guy are very popular but I can't watch them anymore. They're like finger nails on a chalkboard, a bit arrogant. Pal is very personable and down to earth. 👍
I just got rid of my apple stuff partly for this reason lol. Started with my iPad screen goiing out after 8 months. Mind sharing what telepromter app you're using? I need to get one to cut down on the edits to take out everytime I look at my script haha.
Oh the pains of software updates and issues. My favorite is when they completely rehaul the look of the app and everything changes place to the point where you’re relearning everything all over again, yet it’s filled with even more bugs than the app before the perfectly fine update.
How about when you have the device you want to connect Bluetooth too in your hand.....the earbuds instantly connect to the tablet in your farthest away bedroom.
😂 “what was I even talking about” 😂 I’m cracking up man, definitely felt this way!!! Thanks for sharing the entertaining and doing the frustrating hard work for us! 👏👏😂
When I was an electronics tech back in the 1980s we called it "engineering in the field".... LOL! Get it close and then let the customers find the problems on the fly...Then, make production engineers and techs fix all the problems as we get them.
