Hey Everyone,
Quick Clip for yas! We re-energized the 69kv substation today that was down for maintenance ➡ ( • 69KV Mobile Substation )
Many of our substations now can be energized remotely, but this one still requires the old hand operated gang switch.
Hope you're all having a great week - 😁🍻 Cheers!

Just a quick clip of us energizing the 69kv sub that had the mobile setup I showed a few videos back. All equipment is tested prior to being energized ✌🍻👊 *Edit* A few have mentioned verifying the position of the blades (that they are fully seated). This step was done after recording prior to reporting back to dispatch. I hope to release a better and more in-depth video covering switching steps in the near future!

@@AgentM124 the power transformer itself, along with lightning arrestors, PT's and reclosers would all be tested/maintained. Could be a sign across a fenced lot or looking down a road that's blocked by a tree. In this case a good look at that switch before reporting to dispatch that you are all set. BTW, they have also come in handy when taking lunch at the local beach on a nice day!

After you energized and walk away. In the video it looks like a blue flash comes down the pole. I watched it a couple of times. Maybe it just reflected off something else. This is why they recommend all the gear. Safety has really come along way. In my trade we have a lot of issues with lightning. It causes all kinds of destroyed parts. I have been amazed at how it travels through the equipment and fuses relays together. I have found your work interesting. I came across your channel when I was researching how to work around the lines safely. We had to run a low voltage cable in the area near them in the air a safe working distance away. All went well and the job is done now. Working around them in any ariel work can be interesting to say the least. Sometimes I wish I could post things about my job but just never going to happen. Due to the things, you have talked about in your videos when you started. My job is interesting just can't put it out there. Thanks for keeping the lights on!

@@zoidelux I agree. Many older solutions are engineer ing wise brilliant and still in service both in USA and everywhere else. But that's not the case with HV air arc switches. In Europe they are used for medium voltage, up to 35 kV, and when switching small to normal load currents, they must be equipped with auxiliary chamber which helps to extinguish the arc. And for voltages over 60 kV only classical breakers are installed. In USA they decided to sacrifice reliability for cost and after WW2, air arc switches started to appeared on power lines up to 230 kV

@@Bobsdecline It works at 110/15 kV stations, where power transformers have bays equipped with circuit breakers, rail disconnectors, transformers and lightning arresters on the high and low voltage side. The control is performed remotely with telemetry or locally from the board. The transformers have factory protection plus two or three-stage overcurrent with differential current protection. Such switching stations were built in the 1960s, when the railway was electrified. Regards.
