a century from now, if youtube can still be accessed, this will be a great find for a university student who wants to do a case study & presentation of the history of and rise of 1990s trance.
for those who are confussed about the origin of this video, this is not me.this is actually Andre Strasser alias "three'n'one" who posted this, then removed.I had downloaded it and had it saved.with much respect I uploaded it...
@@seandigler2228 trance producer Andre Strasser alias "three 'n' one",Sharam Jay Owns the Studio, the voice heard on this video is clearly that of Andre..
I've watched this a few times now, it's just mesmerising, I love seeing all the hardware and hearing all the sounds they make, this is a really important historical video that should be saved for eternity, thanks for uploading.
@@ZombieNation-bo3pu You were there at the best time because this is not the original Cafe Del Mar from 1993, but the Three 'n One remix from 1997, which peaked in '98. The 2 "original" remixes were not that bad, but not even close to this one.
For all of you who have stumbled over this video trying to work out it's relevance or importance, THIS video is the rock equivalent of The Beatles writing Let It Be or Nirvana writing Teen spirit in video format. THIS IS HISTORY.
@@scality4309 "For Real" is an American Term for " Yes,I agree"...the Title is what the one half on "Three'n'one" named this video and he was reffering to the Instruments in the studio...
I still wonder how this song got so much success, although we all loved it at the club where I played in the 2000s. I thought it would die out like all big hits, but it didn't, it became an eternal classic from it. I'm still a fan of these sounds, I put in so many mixes, I recreated it with fruityloops, edited the original for mix to be longer, shorter or different. This tune made me so much enjoy, creativity, fun and good times and more on it will!
Oh wow, I just see this video now for the first time, so cool! Thanks for uploading! I made a vlog about "Café Del Mar" a long time ago, wish I knew about this video then hehe.... Awesome footage!
I really really like this....used to dance to this and other electronic music hits in the early 2000s until 4am. Going to listen to this on winamp now. Thanks!
Yes,Amazing! in the 80's it was done with "some" gear.in the 90's with as much as you could get.now its with software...I have a Little of Both...but a timeless Groove? priceless!
Very first Nordlead is from 1995, not 1994. And can't have been used to make the original Cafe Del Mar tune... Actually most of the equipment used in this video was not around at the time of the tune release. ;-)
@@modulartjapan2212 God ..please people..were are talking about the remix done @9, years later by "three'n'one"...then 10 years after that sir Andrea went back to the studio and filmed this video..
thank you so much for saving this video! I about shat myself when I saw what this was! It was exactly how i imagined they made it, hardware! Reminds me why I still fuss with the hardware side of things. Akai Samplers really have their signature sound. Thats why I have 6 of them lol.
I've raided thousands of videos on youtube and this is by far the moust impressive video ever seen on this site!! congratulations for the brilliant lesson on how to recreate an amazing track
Hi,I didnt recreate it..this is actually the true "three'n'one" guy..Andre Strasser..going back to the studio later to video this..so lucky i downloade it and then repost it..he himself lost it..check his comment above,,
A lot of familiar classic hardware from back in the day. Here's my observations: • Mixer is a Mackie 32/8 bus with the 24 channel expander • Seems the percussion is coming from an Akai 3200XL with 8 output expanded going to the Mackie • Red synth is the original Clavia Nord Lead • Roland Synth is a JV-2080 which is doing the pads and the plucks • Baseline seems to be coming from at Yamaha TX802 which was popular for baselines then • Still not sure what the Emu Orbit 9090 is doing (could be the kick if it's not sampled Akai) • Blue'ish synth above the Nord is a Roland JP-8000 not a Yamaha CS1x • Compressor at the top of the rack is a Behringer Composer Pro or an Autocom • Below that looks like a Behringer Denoiser • Roland SRV-330 below the Akai • Above the Yamaha TX is an SPL GoldMike 9844 • Above the Mackie looks like a BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer
hey!...good observation..i think jay (the studio owner) bought the Emu orbit later as it was hyped at the time (this video was made about 10 years after the release of the remix) i was one of those who jumped on the orbit right away as i had the Emu morpheus prior and still have a XL-1 turbo that came out afterwards ..but this remix and recording was released a few years before the Ortbit did...so i dont think it made it to the remix...
I never had the Orbit, but lately I have been contemplating picking one up for fun. I also miss the original Nord. I had a Nord 3 and eventually sold it. Hardware will always be fun for me no matter how much easier it can be using the computer.
I’m guessing you don’t have access to this studio set up any more Mr Straesser? Because this video is a piece of musical history and if you had the opportunity to go back and do some live tweaking to the Three N One mix I’m sure that there’d be a huge audience for some alternate versions. Your mix is probably the only one that has ever mattered for this track and I’d love to her some dubs.
@@modulartjapan2212 yes..but he was reffering to the instruments ..that is Sharam Jay 's Studio and all the synths they used in the "Three'n'one' Remix which as far as here in the States it took over the radio airplay in 99'..Big Hit...perhaps the biggest trance track ever..
Most artists probably didn't, a Dutch radio DJ mucked around with some cassettes on a modified deck and used a psuedonym to publish it and play it on the radio and it blew up completely to his surprise.
@@scality4309 I was responding to your first comment. Some of the artists probably were not aware they were making the next big thing, just because it was such a huge time of experimentation going on. Try to see these kind of things for what a viral video is nowadays: it can be impossible to grasp what makes a viral video go viral beforehand.
For me the Three N One remix is still the best one. I love how the sounds play and interact with one another even though there are probably effects and sound missing.
Yes,Agree.I still use an Emu XL-1 Turbo synth (so does Dave Lee alias Joey Negro ) with the Orbits Rom Chips (Techno Yard..) a Cazio cz101 with that cheesy House organ patch, yamaha TG-33 (same sounds as Moby's Sy22 and the strings of the "GO anthem..Classic,the yamaha FB-01 FM module with that metallic Bass sounds used in all the 80's Euro tracks..and well ...gotta have!
Amazing video mate, thank you so much for uploading this. As others have said, this is basically a genuine historical document. Would love to know what the stabby sample coming in from the Akai at 4.30 is - so iconic. Any ideas?
My guess is it's from the EMU Orbit - released in 1996 so fits with the period. Done a video here -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XzguG8Nf4dg.html
Good question.I'm not Mr. Stasser,I'm someone who found this clip before it got blocked on Andre's original channel.so as i had downloaded it,I uploaded it to show my friends and fans..Lol!
It's the owner of the song (Three 'n one remix of Cafe del mar) who filmed it: Sharam Jey: www.musicradar.com/news/tech/in-pictures-sharam-jeys-plush-studio-248819/7
Mastertracker510 looks to be the Roland Super Jv synth module but he also had a Akai 3000 sampler and the yamaha, also the Emu Orfbit version 1(or v.2 with the rom upgrade?) drum duties are split up between the various sampler/synths.see how the drum track cuts off when he pulls out the cartridge?
@Gerhild...the title "the original instruments that Played it" was not my doing either.thats what HE tittle it and I'm sure he means the older synths in the studio.if you were into sequencing & midi that long and with a hit such as this one..you would also UPDATE YOUR GEAR to include some of the latest most popular (The Nord Lead).but as u can see the retro hard drives & Cubase (I think,I used an Alesis Mmt8 like Orbital did at one time ) fits the story..
Sorry, read the comments...this is in fact Andre Strausse alias " three'n'one' ..who in 2010 went back to the studio belonging to "Jay",with his hardrives and reloading his session that made the "three'n'one" mix,i found his video and downloaded it,not knowing that he was forced to take it down by the record label..he commented here...and to answer your quesion, this is not a sample loop,he sequenced it all..
Yes..I could'nt find it on youtube,my friends at a Dj forum & website wanted to see it,and I had downloaded it and saved it Deep in my Hard Drive ..lol..so in order for me to show it to them I had to Upload it myself.then I thought what i had accomplished with this..and thought ...Great!..that was some midi studio he had.would love to meet him and work with him on a remix LOL
I love this video, thanks so much for uploading it! I wish there were more similar videos, I’m fascinated by the production of the tracks from this time. I wonder what the context of the video is? It looks like it was made years after the release judging by his Mac. I wonder if he remade the song in Logic (I think that is what he’s using?) or if he was able to import the original session into a new version…
Great find though. A great moment in musical history but why is the 8 bar out in the beginning It comes in to early? Yo be fair it has been a vary long time since I listened to to this remix.
It’s probably half and half these days, there’s a huge resurgence in hardware only electronic music making and it’s an amazing time to be alive as there’s a huge amount of decent hardware available
So those plucks are from a Nord Lead? I didn't know that. I still wonder how those instruments are playing those notes in that whole setup. Must be pretty intricate.
