Energy Management automation with Home Assistant - control EV charging to avoid import from the grid

Let's see Energy Management in action! The solar panel installation is finished (finally), and the automation is working like a charm. It controls the charging of my electric car and adjusts its power based on the PV output. There are different modes depending on the day of the week. The battery is working beautifully.
This is a use case after the first 2 days of use. Quite interesting days - the first day started with empty batteries, a beautiful sunny day in the morning, scattered clouds around lunchtime, a heavy snowstorm in the afternoon. How is it going to cope in mid-March?
Today was quite sunny, so after all the batteries were full, we started exporting to the grid.

Very Impressive Vaclav! I'm sure many of ur viewers would like to see how the PV system was integrated into HA.

You mentioned you have gas. If you have a water storage tank, look at something like a power diverter from myenergi. It is called Eddi. I use excess solar power to heat my hot water and so use less gas. In Germany we don't get much for pushing back into the grid so my goal is to consume as much as possible myself. The products from myenergi help a lot with that. Nice video.

This is very cool. You have inspired me to automate my car charging amperage based on solar production and the current load on the the rest of the house. While avoiding the inverter from grabbing power from the grid.

congratulations! great job and a nice system. I would love to be that far already. My idea is to avoid the purchase of a house battery and to use the EV battery instead also to power the house. We need battery power mostly at night time which is also the time the EV is parked in the carport and connected to the wallbox. I do not want to flood your channel with all my questions, hoping you provide follow-up videos soon. Just one remark: if there is so much information on the screen like today it is difficult to follow your mouse pointer, would you mind to overlay a mouse highlighter for your presentation?

can i enter max inverter ourput so it dont overloads when car is charging and house starts also with washing machine and dryer ? can i setup limit of 11kw for overall car and house in this home assistant ? and how do i do that

Goodwe. S wall boxem nekomunikuj, řídím to přes Škoda Connect API. Právě dělám na dalším videu, kde to ukazuji

super nice Grafana charts Vaclav. please explain in a future video how exactly do you adjust the EV charging current? is is a feature of you charging wall adapter? or do you use some smart plug that supports variable current?

Hi Vaclav, what device do you use to mesure the consumption of the individual appliences. I have some smart plugs - NEO Coolcam - with Tasmota on them. However they are not good enough to provide precise measurement of stand-by consumprion of the applience - not miliWats resolution. Not mentioning the troubles with correct calibration. Thanks for very informative video.
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 Год назад
I use different devices, including Shelly, diffent TPlinks, Blitzwolf. I talk about that in the video linked at the end. But I actually do not really care too much about mW. Most of the WiFi sockets run ESPHome, that I can calibrate easily if I wanted. But I did not really go into that. And half of them are ZigBee sockets anyhow. Overaly it adds up to the consumption metering by the invertor, and that is all I need.

For Dynamic current control what settings I need to make to user 95% from PV production with a inverter heat pump? For heat pump is possible to : -switch on /off , -to reduce with 50% power of the device /Eco mode , to change flow temperature 25-60C to chose another temperature curve -to change from heating to hot water to read temperature from boiler to change hot water temperature 25-60C from boiler -to read flow and return temperature

Hi Vaclav, great video! How do you show consumption values (Watt) as negativ values in the diagrams? Do you have some tutorial to this? (I find only "centered zero" but solar production is positiv and consumption also) Thank you and greetings from Switzerland
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 10 месяцев назад
This is how the inverter device shows that. I did not really do anything. But if it did not, I guess I could create a template sensor and multiply the consumption by -1.

@bruxy70
@bruxy70 Год назад
Already done that. Check out the first video in the energy management playlist linked at the end of the video and in the description. Said that, I use different ones, including Shelly, Blitzwolf, but mostly the ones shown in the video. Also, these are cheep devices from China, so what I bought a year ago probably does not matter too much.

Not sure where you are but a question. Your power company can limit the amount of energy you export to them?
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 Год назад
They can send a high frequency signal over the mains to block the export. This is hard-wired to the invertor. It works autonomously, I have no way to control that. There is also a spot Price tarif available, but I do not use it right now. Could be interesting I suppose.

I guess can trigger an automation by state changing to unavailable. But no, I have no exp.

Good job! What car charger do you have? Does it have a local api?
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 Год назад
I just use a stock charger that came with the car. I do not talk to the charger, I talk to the car through the Integration available in HACS. Will show that in the next video (and yes, this will be specific to Skoda/VW, but I am sure other cars have that as well. Or if you have an intelligent wallbox, you can do it there - it would actually be much better - mine does not do that).

Bu vaslav, thanks for sharing. Great video. Just want to know. in this case you export electric to grid.so this is decrease your comsuption for billing. İf is right, why you need store electric with battery? Or can be minimum battery for emergency when grid offline. İ think budget will be decrease. i'm trying to understand your mind.
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 Год назад
If I get paid similar money for exporting energy to what I get for import, then you are right, I would not care, and I would not even bother buying the battery, that is the most expensive part of the kit. But that's not the case. What you get paid for export is pathetic. So the goal is to minimise import and maximise consumptin from own production. I do not really care much for the export. If I wanted to do that as a busines, I'd have to have much larger solar panels.

Hey Vaclav, can you do all this on a tablet? I want to install and tablet on my kitchen wall where I can monitor my Goodwe solar system. Also want to control all the automation at the same time. Can you please help me to do that ? Thanks
@bruxy70
@bruxy70 7 месяцев назад
The easiest (and cheapest) way would be to have Home Assistant running somewhere, and then have a tablet as the interface. Either with the Home assistant App, or the web page in a browser. Also, goodwe have own web monitoring. So if you just want to monitor the invertor, you can start there.
