Enfield 1963 ish (Version 2)

I post this home video to show small parts Enfield UK in 1963 and maybe 1964. Obviously the video quality is quite poor due to its age and technology available. You will note that the video edge moves a little as I have applied slight Apple stabilisation.
Version 2 has different songs as background to suit UK copyright and also film noise reduction.

Great video and lovely memories of Enfield when people cared about where they lived. All the English shops along the Hertford Road, heartbreaking to see what has happened to it 😔

I live just off ordnance road, and your right, Hertford Road is a mess, unrecognisable to 20 years ago when i moved here. And i used to hang around the area in the early 80's and it was great back then good mates and good times. Now, i can't bare to walk along the high road, it's horrible.

Brought back special memories of Enfield swimming pool even though the water wasn't that warm ! Didn't know how lucky we were, most people dressed nicely, most people had manners - thank you

Before our politicians and businesses latched on to the idea of non stop immigration. Replacing us with new,... more compliant voters and cheap labour.

My brother filmed it when we lived in Elsinge Road. I did the editing to try and make it more stable.

If someone went back in time, and showed them what a real science fiction horror this country is like today...

its a rare sight to see a happy family in Enfield at that time . most were drunk or mentally ill and on drugs.

Wonderful footage from my early childhood, Southbury Rd so cold you jumped out as soon as you jumped in! Films like these always bring to mind L.P. Hartleys opening to his novel "The Go Between" : “The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” will people in 60 years feel the same about today?

Third piece of music is "Nut Rocker" by B Bumble and the Stingers (a big hit in 1962). Don't know the copyright details. I remember those shops at 1.00 onwards very well, especially the Woolworths. The Green Street library - almost my second home - lay just beyond the end of the parade. My actual home was in Gilbert Street, a quarter of an hour's walk further to the north along Hertford Road.

So trippy. Literally like an alternate universe of where you live. Cant even imagine a roundabout where carterhatch meets the A10

Changed a bit. The MP is Turkish. The council is run by Turks and all the shops in the Hertford road are mostly quikimarts/resturants run by Turks. Might as well be a suburb of Istanbul. Ironically the Turks are a minority in Enfield so something is fishy

Fabulous.....I was 10 in 1963, so this could have been part of my life story, I lived in the flats at the Halfway House by the roundabout at Carterhatch, my dad, Len, and my Uncle Mick worked at Ruberoid (I did some summer holiday work there as well) My cousins live in Brookfields and I went Suffolks in Brick Lane.......skateboards mad from old skates and bits of ply, box carts and swimming at Southbury!

Sad what happened to the area although very convenient if you only eat kebabs, burgers, fried chicken and pizza and are not interested in a wide choice of pubs.

I know people were supposedly poorer back then but that family looked like they were doing pretty well and the area looked a heck of a lot nicer than it does now.
