Today we will attempting to make flower bead bracelets and a bead flower ring. 0:25 Since beads are varied in color and shape, and due to multiple methods for stringing the beads, creation can really be tailored to personal preference, with infinite options. 0:36 Today, of the possibilities, I will let you know how to make pretty---but easily hand-made---bracelets and a ring. BRACELET #1 0:43 The tutorial will start with this bracelet here. The flower bracelet has combination of a gentle blue sky color, a orange color to act as the pop-of-color, and a sparkling silver. 0:52 Among my friends, this color combination is most popular so we will use it in the tutorial. 0:58 The materials used are scissors, string, glue, and tape. 1:02 First, the string used for the bracelets vs ring will be different, that's why I prepared 2 types of string. 1:08 Because the bracelets need to pass through the hand, I'm using a stretchy urethane (=type of plastic) string with a 0.3mm thickness. 1:16 Though the ring can be worn without having to stretch over anything, it is important that the ring does not fall off. 1:22 Therefore, I am choosing a thin fishing-line string that does not stretch to make the ring. The thickness of the string is 0.2 size. 1:30 This tape is not a necessary item, but I will use it to block the beads from slipping off of the string end. 1:37 And for the last of the materials---the beads. 1:40 I use a variety of beads, but you only need to purchase the beads with the colors you want to use. 1:49 Normally for flower bracelets, rings, or necklaces---2mm, 3mm, or 4mm sized beads are used. 1:57 Here we see a 2mm and 3mm size difference. Though the difference is only 1mm, because the beads are already so small the difference between them visually is rather apparent. 2:08 The bead size difference gives for a different feel/style and thickness for the end-product. Decide which size you want to use accordingly. 2:15 Today, I will be using 3mm sized beads 2:19 First off, I prepared the beads needed for making the bracelet. 2:23 Also, working on a hard floor means that if the beads fall, they will be scattered everywhere. This is why I spread a cloth piece on the floor. 2:32 Cut the string loosely/lengthily and sticking the tape lightly onto one end of the string. The beads shouldn't fall off from the string because they'll be blocked from the tape. 2:46 The bracelet being made today has 6 petals. To act as the petals string on 4 sky blue beads, then for the flower center string on one orange bead. 2:57 Take the string and pass it through the first bead in a inverse manner to the string's direction (look and follow the arrows of the tutorial image). This makes half of the flower. Now just to add 2 more petals to complete the flower. 3:14 Add 2 sky blue beads and rotate the string to pass it through the lower bead here (trying to make the blue beads hug the orange bead) 3:26 And like this, one cute flower has been made. 3:31 Now to make the flower-to-flower link, string on 2 silver beads, then continue to use the same method as earlier to create the flowers. 3:42 Like this, the flowers and silver beads will repeat, continue until you reach a length that fits your hand/wrist size. 3:50 For times when the string doesn't go in, hold the string tight, then string it through. 3:55 And when you've been working mindlessly, there are times where you forget to add the silver beads (like me here). All you need to do is take the beads off and string on the needed beads. 4:03 In between working on the bracelet, it will be wise to check your progress (catch mistakes earlier). 4:12 Work till the bracelet's length matches your wrist size. To check if the size matches, take the bracelet and wrap it around your wrist. 4:20 I find it nice that once you've made/worked on a bracelet, you can use the number of flowers as a measurement standard for future bracelets. 4:26 For me, with 3mm size beads, I use about 13 flowers to get a good length. 4:33 Now to finish the bracelet with a knot, we remove the tape we had on the string. All that is left is to tie the knot, but because the beads are light it is difficult to tie a knot. 4:44 To fix this, using a heavy object on the opposite end to hold the bracelet makes it easier to tie the knot. 4:52 Knot around 3 times and apply a bit of strong glue onto the knots while blowing air to help fix the glue in place. 5:02 Once the glue has slightly set, feed the string ends into the silver beads on both sides of the knot. After trim the string ends and you are done. 5:11 The stretchy string makes it easy to put on the bracelet, and the colors are subtle---a pretty bracelet has been completed. RING #1 5:21 If you use this 6-petal method and make only 1 flower and connect with a long string of beads, you can make this kind of ring. RING #2 5:30 I will let you know how make a different ring, one with 8-petals. 5:35 A 8-petal rings is wide and thick and catches the eye easily. So just wearing one will make it into a statement piece and it looks really pretty. 5:44 So first we prepare the fishing-line string. The 8-petal flower has many kinks in it, which means you will need far more string than what you'd think you would need. It will be good to use a generous amount of string. 5:55 And for this one, to match Summer, a refreshing color combination of blue and white beads will be used. 6:02 First, add 6 white beads which will act as petals, then move the string so that the beads are in the middle. Then add 1 blue bead which will act as the center of the flower through both string ends. 6:19 Now hold both string ends and push the blue bead into the middle of the white beads. 6:31 Now when we look at the shape of the flower we see that either side has 3 petals. Using one side of the flower, leaving the most bottom bead out, pass the string through the bottom 2nd-most bead and 3rd-most bead. 6:45 Repeat this to the other side. 6:51 Now the flower is two-thirds complete. Once the last 2 petals are added we will be done. 6:58 Add 2 petal beads to one string end, then take the other string end and pass it through the beads in the opposing direction. 7:08 Like this the beads are connected using X-shape. Tighten the strings to complete the 8-petal flower. 7:20 Now all that is left is to connect the flowers together. This time there is no need to add beads to the middle, but add to both string ends to continue the flowers. 7:36 Now we will make the second flower. Add 2 white beads to each string end, then grab both string ends together and string on one blue bead. 7:49 Now you can repeat the same steps as to when we made the first flower. 7:54 Turning towards the center, put the flower center inside the petals. And lastly pull the string through the above 2 beads (on both sides), then add 2 more beads and connect them. 8:07 And with constant repetition is became this length. 8:11 Wrap it around your finger and check the size. Now we can finish-up the ring. 8:17 Firstly, because we will be connecting the last flower to the first flower, the last flower should be missing the connecting 2 beads. 8:25 Take one string end and pass it through the first flowers' 2 beads. Then the ring becomes this shape. Now when we tie up the last part the ring will be complete. 8:38 Knot the finishing knot 3 times, and because fishing-line stays secure even with only knots I will not need to apply any glue. 8:47 However, if you cut the string right next to the knot, it may become undone. Therefore, pass the string through the following path to allow for some length in the string (past the knot) to be left. 8:58 And once you trim the string, the ring is complete. 9:03 The ring has a refreshing look that, in the Summer, would look good with blue jeans. 9:10 Now, with this method, if you lengthen the size you can make a bracelet. The bracelet has a sort of thickness and the beads are close together, making it look good with causal clothing choices.
