I think there’s inequality within the each generation, those who are born into privilege stay privileged, those born into poverty remain poor. But there is also discrepancy between generations where younger generations struggle to achieve the same things as their parents did, due to shifting economic situations, the cycles of economic growth and depression, inflation etc etc. It’s a situation many people across many countries will know.

The common introduction to this song is from the dance practice and then the explanation video by DKDKTV channel, so I think that's how most foreigners (who look for an explanation) would understand this song. As a person in my 40's like you, I wonder how much the generation gap influences your interpretation of the lyrics. It was an interesting perspective. It seems, in general, that the more "fun" their song is, the more of a critical message they are sending. Many see the "fun" and just leave it at them having silly fun. Many see the pelvic thrusting as just a sexy dance move, without thinking about it possibly being a physical representation of swearing at the storks/gold spoons/older generation. I hope you will watch the dance practice and DKDKTV's explanation. I'd love your reaction, but even if it's just for yourself. I think you would be interested in how foreigners are understanding this always very requested song/video, as so much is lost in translation with it.💜💜

저는 이 노래를 듣고 '이 세대'가 더 이상 개천에서 용이 나지 않게 된 세대를 의미한다고 생각했어요. 예전엔 출발점의 차이는 있어도 노력하면 어느 정도는 쫓아갈 수 있었다면, 지금은 그렇지 않으니까요. 꼭 기성세대만이 아니더라도 두 분이 말씀하셨듯 같은 세대 안에서도 금수저와 흙수저가 있듯이.. 개천에서 용이 나지 않게 된 현실을 겪고 있는 모든 사람들을 겨냥한 노래가 아닐까 싶어요 ㅎㅎ

현 젊은 흙수저들이 처한 불합리한 현실을 제이홉이 말하고, 알엠이 이런 상황이 정상이 아냐라고 하고, 정국의 공평하다니 아유 크레이지 여기에 이 노래의 포인트가 있는거같아요. 청년세대 실패의 원인을 네 노력이 부족해서라고것이 잘못됐다고 노래하죠. 출발선부터 다른데 말이죠. 선생님은 학교에 가면 볼 수 있죠.선생님은 가르치는 사람ㅡ>즉 선생질 하는 꼰대를 칭하는 언어유희에요 이 노래를 알고 난 후로 아들들에게 노력하란 말 안하려고 노오오오오오력하고 있어요ㅎㅎ🥴🥴🥴

I realized that this song is also amazing because korean millenials immediately get it. All the references in the songs stand out at once to millenials, but when it comes to an older person, they easily oversee things (though they get the general meaning). It means that Bangtan does really speak to the young generation.

The baepsae refers to their generation and younger and stork refers to well your generation and older and how adults keep telling them to just work harder and you will achieve what we(adults) did like buy houses and such but the times are different from then and now so its almost impossible for baepsaes to catch up no matter how hard they work...

While I absolutely love DKDKTV's explanations for BTS songs, I think it's important to point out that theirs is also just a theory. There's a reason BTS tends not to explain their music. So the listener can interpret it based on their own lives and perceptions. David and Danny (DKDKTV) explain this video based on the point of view and mindset of a millenial. This particular reaction (HnKnTV) is VERY important because this is based on the point of view of a generation Xer (like myself). For millenials, yeah, the storks are the baby boomers. For these guys, the storks are gold/silver spoons (which is probably why another name for this song IS Silver Spoon). These guys are not wrong in their interpretations, it's just from a different generation. Good job, guys. Love the reaction. I support seeing the explanation video, but, at the same time, you guys' version is on point, too. In the end, unless you're the one on top, everybody has somebody who gives them a huge ration of crap. It is the crap that binds us, regardless of race, creed, nationality, gender, or sexual preference. We ALL get crapped on; we're all the crow tits to someone's stork.

요즘 콘서트에서는 더 사정없이 골반을 털어줍니다ㅋㅋ 이 다음으로 분위기 이어 엠아롱,등골브레이커 보시죠~ 엠아롱 이곡으로 공중파에서 했다는게 아미들 떨게 만든 곡이고요 등골브레이커는 자식을 키우는 부모의 입장에서도,자식의 입장,그 시절을 겪어본 사람들 다 공감하는 재미난 곡이예요~

노래가사도 가사지만 말씀하셨듯이 저 아이들 저런 큰 무대에서도 혹은 작은 무대에서도 정말 즐기면서 하는 모습이 너무 좋아 보였습니다. 꾸미는데는 한계가 있지요. 그래도 이 아이들 프로의식가지면서도 즐기고 서로 사랑하는 모습이 이 기성세대의 시각에서는 정말 좋아보였습니다. 그래서 전 15년부터 팬이었지요. 물론 완벽한 인간도 인간관계도 없듯이 이 아이들과 그 주변에도 물론 삐걱거림음 있을겁니다. 그건 어떤 사회 어떤 누구나 있는거라 왜 구지 아이돌한테만 그 잣대를 들이대는지 잘 모를일입니다. 어쨌든 우리 탄이들 즐기는 모습에 저도 같이 즐기게 되네요.

Thank you for reacting to Baepsae! I thought your analysis about baepsaes and storks in the same generation was very interesting. However, I believe the aspect of the generation divide or gap is definitely part of this song. Maybe it's clearer if you look at the lyrics to their song Dope, where they refer to the 'sampo generation'. I guess you can also read it as a criticism of the people in power (in whatever field) who have established themselves and want to "maintain" what they have got.

As a foreigner, I enjoyed this song and learned about bepsae Korean saying. I believe BTS wrote this song about younger generations' challenges because this theme is in many BTS songs. As time has passed, now I believe we can interpret the song meanings in many ways. BTS could be the bepsae. Or anyone who works hard but does not follow societal expectations.

저 소리 진짜 '꼰대인증'소리라고 생각해왔어요. 진짜 학교가면 선생님한테 저 말 듣고 직장에서 상사한테 귀가 닳도록 듣고 언론에서 근성없다고 혼나고 ㅡ 엑스세대라고 불리던 나도 이제 기성이 된지 오래인데 아직도 저런 말들을 해요. 하기야 저 말은 이집트 피라미드에도 낙서되어있다니 뭐. 어른다운 어른이 되기 어렵거든 제발 저런 꼰대라도 되지 말자고 다짐하며 젊은 친구들에게, 우린 안 그랬는데 ㅡ 어쩌고 되도 않는 소리는 않하고 살려고 노력해요. 생각해보면 우리들의 어른세대도 그런 말 듣고 살았을 거면서 왜 저랬는지... 타니들 학창시절 선생님세대라면 지금 40대 후반 부터 50대 이상이네요.. IMF 이전에 성인이된 세대이지요.. IMF 이전엔 대다수 가정은 남편 혼자만의 수입으로도 충분히 풍족한 삶을 누릴 수 있었지요.. IMF 이후 그 이전 세대같은 물질적인 풍요를 누리기위해 많은 부모들이 맞벌이를 시작했구요.. 젊은이들의 삶 역시 그 이후 조금씩 팍팍해지기 시작해 80년대 생들이 20대일때 3포세대라는 말로 시작해 지금 현재 6포 7포 세대라는 말까지 듣는 세대가 타니들과 비슷한 나이대의 청년들이잖아요.. 그러니 선생님들 세대는 지금 아이들 눈으로 보면 금수저로 태어난 세대죠.. 가사 속 황새와 뱁새 해석을 그저 금수저와 흙수저로 나누기 보단 더 나아가 현 시대 젊은이들의 상황을 쉽게 생각하는 기성세대에 대한 비꼼도 들어있다고 봐야할거 같아요.. 가사 중간부분 노력노력*2 노노랗구나 싹수가 라는 파트 가사없이 그냥들으면 노(no) 노력 노(no) 노력 노랗구나 싹수가로 들려요, 어찌보면 어른들이 아이들한테 많이 하는 말이잖아요.. 노력하면 뭐든지 할 수 있어.. 또는 니 노력이 부족해서 그것 밖에 못하는거야... 이상 20대의 시작을 IMF와 함께 시작한 40대 중반 아줌마의 개인적인 해석이었습니다.

흙수저 금수저 얘기도 맞지만 여기선 기성세대와 현세대를 야기하는것이 베이비붐 시대를 거쳐 현세대들이 경쟁할 대상자들이 훨씬 넘쳐나고 이른바 초고이력자이면서도 실업자 미취업자들이 많은 N포세대로 기성세대의 무조건적인 노력타령을 꼬집으며 시대적으로 다른 현상황을 빗대 표현한 노래임

This comment is not a criticism on you at all, but being a Korean, I thought you would automatically understand the lyrics, but I guess there is also the generation gap factor, specially when it comes to modern terminologies. Quite understandable. I suggest that you search the dkdktv baepsae explanation so you can understand the modern perspective of the song. I'm not saying your interpretation is wrong, it's from an ajjussi's perspective after all. But there is different point of view from a younger generation (BTS) that could give you a better understanding. You can watch the dkdktv explanation on your own time if you want. I don't know what the economic landscape of Korea is right now, but for many millennials and gen Z people, we are not afforded the same opportunities that our parents generation. Yet our parents generation berates us for being "lazy" and "not trying". For example my parents bought their first house in their early 20's and had a sizeable savings account. I'm 30 and I don't have enough saved up, I don't have a house, and I still have a car loan. Even then, I'm still considered very lucky because I have no student debt. BTS is pointing out that my generation and the generations after mine have to do so much in order to be able to live like the gereations that came before us. I hope this helps!

This is one of the first songs I heard from BTS and still one of my favorites. Actually I love all the songs with lots of whooping, noise making and Korean slang in the background. :D I agree that you might want to watch the dance practice for this song--so fun! I know there is a lot of content fro you to react to and this suggestion is way on the other side of the spectrum, but their live performance of "Make It Right" on the Late show with Stephen Colbert is breathtaking.
