I'm new to SC1 esport (I played the campaign 20 years ago), I just started by following your coverage of the SSL from the beginning. Every game I watch, I'm amazed by the quality of the cast: insane knowledge, great chemistry, highly entertaining. And every game I watch, I am so captivated by the action and emotionally involved that I completely forget to leave comment afterwards. So this time, I decided to post before I start watching, so I don't miss the opportunity to celebrate your work. Keep it up, you're amazing.
They usually do a decent job (unless it's ZvZ, where they have no idea, and even admit as such), but they really dropped the ball on Soulkey vs Light series in the previous round, it was very superficial and their self-promotion for donations really detracted from the quality compared to Nyoken+Xun's insightful cast over at StarCastTV. A lot was affected by very early game scouting in that series and Tastosis paid next to no attention to it.
I’m in the same boat, played campaign for years as a kid 20+ years ago, i just got into watching SSL(formerly ASL) along with following Artosis and Tasteless(the casters here) own channels. Best part about joining the community late is that theres years worth of these ASL tournaments to binge watch now! 🤣💯👌🏼 Enjoy!!
My dream scenario is soulkey winning his 3rd ASL in a row and flash coming back next season and we get a bo7 monster showdown between flash and soulkey!
That first interview between SnOw and SoulKey, talking about "if I win, I'm the champion" was hilarious (and probably true). Typing this before watching (and not looking at comments).
Looking past the final opponent is a smart move. Whether it was Soulkey or Snow they both needed to go into the final match with maximum disrespect with the attitude that they've already won it and that the games are a mere formality
Spoiler block! I think one missing observation about the 3rd game is how quick the 4th of soulkey was. In a more standard 3 hatch spire into 6 hatch hydra on 3 base macro play, the timing of the 4th is somewhere around when the zerg gets some map presence when the hydra production kicks in. Usually not earlier because you have to be a bit more defensive with early game zealot harass. In this game however, soulkey used the 3 hatch hydra to set up a very fast contain with the hydras, which he could maintain throughout the midgame, allowing him to get an insanely quick 4th. You can also see it reflected in the supply difference: soulkey is ahead or at least equal with snow when snow finally pushes out with his army.
Today I decided to hide the video length for myself (manually on mobile), boy am I glad I did. That was a faster demolishing than most zvz's. We've already accepted that brood war is balanced by the maps, so what will it take to make maps that are actually protoss favored?
Spoiler... I think the stomp was so overwhelming it overshadows pure skill and strategy that went into all 4 games. 1st - keeping Snow in dark, showing signs of hidden rush OR tech meanwhile hiddenly ecoing like greedy madman. To the point wher tech starts Snow thinks he is safe but SoulKey's eco push totally destroys him. 2nd - getting economic hit for 2 hatch muta rush to hiddenly start amassing late 3 hatch hydra on Monty Hall is really great mindgame that if Snow did not try to cheese him back could put Soulkey on backseat. But Snow fumbled and lost even worse than he would probably loose anyways... 3rd - Totally destroying snow scouting and aggression with waves of eco and push, eco, push... To the point where when Snow thought he is strong enough to push he was so economically outclassed it was not even funny. 4th - exploiting minerals and Snow's non ideal wall setup, where Snow tried to save his forge from hydra push but traded his upgrade safety for terminal weakness...
3:17 The predictions at the start are so funny, with the terran players predicting Snow is going to win, probably because they're afraid of his TvP, whereas the protoss players predict Soulkey is going to win.
Not enough Brodwar for sure.... What a bummer 😔 But I think gratulatiom for Soulkey(?) - He realy is worken on becoming a Starcraft-Legend. Thats realy something special to vitness!
Wait, I think Tasteless is mistaken or mispoke on the Patreon payments change. Not everyone is being forced onto yearly annual plans. What's going away are pay-per-post plans and first-of-the-month plans. The difference between 1otM and the new mandatory subscription plans is that now everyone will be on sub-date to sub-date billing cycles rather than 1st to 1st. So if you sign up May 7th, your next bill will be on June 7th rather than June 1st. But most importantly, you can still be on monthly payment plans, just at different billing dates. Can any other commenter confirm?
I wish Snow could capitalize on having his own trophy, he's way better than what we just saw today! Cheers! Btw, Soulkey's just unbeatable right now. He's just won this season.
If you go to comments before finishing the video, it's your fault. And the video length has already been discussed - there's no need to beat the dead horse.
@@MyWay-d5f Back in the day people used to upload matches as separate videos, but then there are no ads, and ads are the reason why we can watch this to begin with... People don't do tournaments for fun - it needs to pay off and that's understandable.
I've also had my excitement killed immediately by seeing the length of the vod. I know you can hide that with ads on Chrome but I also check RU-vid on my phone and as far as I know it's not possible to hide the length here. The duration of the video told me straight away the winner and the score.
Spoiler Block Soulkey is looking terrifying. Bonjwa conversation is warranted for sure. Reminds me of Yu from the Webtoon The Boxer. He just looks invincible.
Snow is my favorite and im biased towards Snow. but yes hes just nutty good!. Was a total spanking... If he wins the tournament he's a bojua and any one disputing that has a tuff argument....Got to give credit were credit os due.
Ah, this was the cast I was waiting for. Love the casting archon. Also, unexpected series. Very interesting to watch, and has me excited for the finals.
@@Gonzalo_105 theres new patch announced for sc2 toss hates it cos it nerfs them and buffs terran and zerg.. terran is already too strong according to everyone.
Has there been any "team" tournaments? 2v2 or 3v3 with the higher pros? All competitiors get thrown into a pool, and randomly assigned teammates. Or full teams of 1 one race - imagine🤣 Flash, Sharp, Light vs Soulkey, Jaedong, Zelot
Maybe you could add a recap with analysis of key moments to these shorter videos? This would solve the issue of people clicking off because they only want to see game footage
@@aSenatorial It actually wasn't. It was a terrible series where hero played like an imposter. One of hero's wins was a totally botched game and the 6th game hero never made a den or any units yet he had 4 Hatcheries? It's really difficult to explain how bad that series was or why hero made clearly losing actions
(Spoiler) Can’t say I didn’t see it coming. Mini and bisu are both better pvz than snow and they’re already dead. Snow is fine, but fine isn’t enough. Plus he wasn’t looking that great this season, probably wouldn’t have made it through round of 8 if not for barracks matchup .
I would love to see what snow was seeing in the first game to make him cancel those cannons? It shows on the map he was scouting with the Corsair over soulkey’s main, but we can’t see. It just doesn’t make sense. It is clearly the No lair 5 hatch hydra all in. If he did start lair it would have been so so late. Such a strange decision
It may be too early to call, but I think we just may witness one of the best players in BW history. Arty said he doesn't like BW to chess comparison, but Soulkey plays BW like it's chess - adapting on the fly to the opponent decisions, predicting them, countering them, like a machine. I watch this and I feel stupid. Can't imagine how Light and Sn0w felt this season. Imagine, play BW professionally over half of your life, then meet this guy, get wrecked like a child. I was disappointed with Light performance, but I was wrong, it wasn't Light bad, it was Soulkey that good. Light actually made smart decision going all in 3 games in a row, at least he scored a point. I predict 4:1 in finals, whoever will Soulkey meet, it doesn't matter.
Snow is to soulkey what artosis is to snow, just a thing to destroy while half trolling and then make funny video. I love both these players games regardless and of course love to artosis and tasteless
ASL/SSL is here again, time to get some popcorn... ...and I didn't even finished it before the game ended. That's not just one-sided, it's a massacre. Wow.
@@John3.36 yea, but you need to get stargate first to stop the mutas, then robotics facility, then robotics bay, then reaver + reaver capacity. its also a diferent tech route to get psy storm, which is more convenient since you also get zealot legs along the way.
spoiler Soulkey is playing a different game than everyone else right now. I feel like going back to pre-S16 to see how people actually won against him after this ridiculous domination.
That would also give Terran a free wall in TvZ for the same reason, and if Zerg can't even threaten a ling runby then Terran would be too far ahead. I've proposed a split map pool for PvZ and PvT, but people have not come around to it.
@kane_lives I wonder what it would take for matchup-specific map pools to be considered by pro leagues. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like players are interested in it either? But I guess if flash and soulkey turn out to be evenly matched it's easy to look the other way when protoss get demolished in the average map pool...
Im not sure if the commentary got more shallow, the hype less present or if they just know the outcome of the games before casting them, but it feels less entertaining lately tbf (been a fan for more than a decade). A bit unfortunate but still Hope to see more good games Thanks
@meowmers2512 he litterally could have won 20-0, he's so good it's actually bad for the game lol, we never ran into a problem like this before because it was mostly flash and terran games are generally better but a zerg destroying everyone's ass is seriously depressing
@reval1989 yes, point being, of the mirrors zvz seems to be the least impacted by outstanding skill expression, stats in the high 50s being 'good. As compared to rain/flash for the other mirrors
