Tetris has had t spins in the main games for a long time.

Tetrises (Tetrisi?) are still useful for clearing residue made by t-spins when you don't get the right pieces to follow up with another t-spins. They are also useful for clearing garbage sent to you, they have different roles.

It's not terribly difficult if you read up on it. You have something like a 35% chance to get a perfect clear as your opening move each round.

Well, the thing is, yeah, Puyo is more complicated than 'classic' Tetris (as in, the original Game Boy/NES version) simply thanks to the differing goals of the game (where the goal of Puyo is to set off chain reactions, while the goal of Tetris is to manipulate blocks into the right places), but I think the modern form of Tetris- with SRS rules, T-spins, et cetera- is nuanced enough, I feel, to counterbalance Puyo Puyo.

Lunamann I agree with pretty much everything you're putting down, but I also just want to add that the speed of tetris adds yet another layer of depth to gameplay at this level. Both games are very complicated and layered in their own right, but even if you were just to look at it from a very basic point of view then it could be seen as planning vs. speed. Regardless, ppt provides a really interesting comparison between the two that I think really highlights the best in both games

Yeah wasn't trying to imply he won *just* because he has it easier, just that well... it is kind of easier to manage.

sometimes it's the other way around because Tetris players can do special garbage attacks (like Tetris or double t spins) but the only huge garbage attacks are perfect clears, getting 2 double t spins (which is really hard for Tetris players or at least me) or triple t spins. and I'm also not saying chaining in puyo puyo is easy but once there is a chain it's hard for Tetris players to stop it, and it's the other way around too but Tetris players also have to think about what Tetraminos to use for their combos. So what I think is are not all Tetris players have it easy. now sit back and watch the wild puzzle games roar and fight!:3

Puyo Tetris is literally a fighting game where there are only two playable characters, and everyone who mains one character claims the other one is overpowered. This is an uninformed opinion entirely from the outside looking in, but the balance in this game actually looks pretty good to me. Puyo players' garbage comes in from the top, which can be played around and seemingly even used to their advantage in small doses but is fatal in large amounts; Tetris players' garbage, coming in from the bottom, is easier to clear, but harder to reach to clear to begin with (Seems to be the leading cause of death in Tetris players, anyway) The only thing I don't like is that a large chain in Puyo is pretty much a death sentence for a Tetris player. I think that if garbage is stacking up for the Tetris player, but they're currently on a row-clearing streak, the garbage shouldn't apply until the end of their combo, thus giving them a chance to neutralize the incoming damage the way Puyo players do.

In high-level play, Tetris is stronger due to its ability to profit from garbage and harass Puyo faster than the latter can dig.

It's even worse than that; at high level, Puyo players can't win sets consistently, period. They either get lucky and get a big chain, or Tetris players inevitably drown them with rapid-fire garbage combos because they'll survive anything short of a megaton-nuke.

that wouldn't happen nowadays since the tetris company wants every tetris game to have modern tetris rules the only exception is like when gameboy tetris got rereleased on 3ds nintendo eshop (removed because of ubisoft)

Margin time starts to favor Puyo if they last long enough, and power 2 chains are better than just regular ones.
