I can't shake the feeling that there's something wrong with that girl Zi Ping. She's always looking around, anxious, clinging to FL when there's a benefit and then talking behind FL's back with the other girl. edit: was writing this comment while halfway through the episode, but that ending.... I hate her already, no matter what her circumstances are.

I feel for the crown prince. He's too kind and simple-minded to be entangled in politics. Thankfully he has a smart son to look out for him

Such a clever idea to tell this story. I have watched people eat in other Chinese Palace dramas and wondered at what they ate and how it was prepared. Thank you ,indeed ,for this.

The son is indulging the father instead of the other way around. It's so nice to see such a cute and innocent crown prince for once. Poor guy would be better off as a village boy. Royal life with the king, his father, would give him grey hair earlier. Lol.

The fact the female lead is bold and straight forward really make me relieved I feel sorry for the crown prince

Also hope that the girls will remain friends cause I'm sick of stories that makes women hating each other for petty reasons

The prince is so caring toward his consort the exact same way he later treats the cook/maid he fell in love in his study but his consort never loved him; maybe she never wanted to be consort or she was too young when she became consort but she never fell in love with him after having been with this handsome talented kind loving devoted prince for so many years! Instead, she was drowning in her own depression and took the prince for granted until she discovered a maid was making him happy and then she got jealous. In another scene, the consort's maid said that the prince would drop everything to see her no matter how important it was if she requested his presence. It was only after the prince fell in love with the maid that he no longer cared to see her and also, he was upset with her for poisoning herself and accidentally poisoned him too. The consort left a vacuum in the prince for another woman to fill and never treated him like a husband. He even asked her "are you the one to be by my side forever?" and she wouldn't say. However, the maid had always loved the prince since she was ten when she lived at the palace for 6 months until she fell sick and had to leave. Ten years later, she would re-enter the palace as a maid and discovered she truly love him but due to her struggles with being forced to be his consort when she was a child, she couldn't bear to be his consort. She valued her freedom more. In this early episode, the prince after so many years he waited for her to open his heart to him pours out his heart to her and explains why he named her Yu'an when she first entered the palace to be his wife. It was because of example of his fraternal grandmother and grandfather strong relationship he wanted the same thing with her for all his life, they would be inseparable, and her name signify the peace and security she would have with him if she will be by his side. So, it's really hard to feel sorry for her that she lost his heart after the maid came into the picture later on when he had been waiting for her heart to unite with his for many years.

My favorite thing to do is pick out one of these episodes in the beginning and grab a bunch of food and pretend to be dining with them 😂

The makeup is styling in this drama are so natural and subtle, many of the actresses are almost unrecognizable from other shows they've done. It's like their entire face has been whitewashed

This princess consort is serving “I’m just here not to get fined” vibes 😂

Great episode though I'm hoping for more interactions between the leads in further episodes.😭❤️😍

For me, the highlight of this drama has been their relationships...father and son, grandfather and grandson.

If I understand this corectly, this is Ming dynasty. I find the difference in clothing very interesting. There seems to be more fabric, heaviear fabrics, and a great deal of pleating involved in the skirting of male and female dress. Everything is so lush and beautiful.

what is going on between the imperial grandson and his primary wife? i get the feeling she doesn't love him at all and for all her respectful attitude she avoids him as much as she can... did she wanted to marry some else? The royal grandson appears to care greatly for her though i don't think he loves her and he is aware enough to try to not develop feelings for her as he also avoids eating with her... but he also visits her and gives her gifts and inquires for her health
