Funnily enough he's one of very few Japanese erai hito and oyaji politicians who never insulted foreigners (at least not publicly, wouldn't surprise me if he's racist in private, but compare him to Abe, Ishihara, Koike, or all the other mayors and governors and he's pretty tame), but his "gaffes" which include ranking cities in his prefecture based on how "cultured" they are and him saying that prefectural officials are "highly intellectual people" compared to farmers, are almost just as ridiculous. I'm not surprised he allegedly blamed Aqours for spreading covid. Well, at least he didn't blame foreigners for spreading the virus like various governors and the central government, which even got them an official complaint from the WHO (which didn't really help much). But at least the Olympics went ahead the same year (without foreign spectators of course).

@@mojabaka he didn't "allegedly" blame... he REALLY blamed... on record and he wasn't blaming foreigners but the japanese fans coming from all over japan ironic because he isn't even a shizuoka native (he is from osaka) other than what he said against the japanese 2.5D idol fans all across the country, he also gaffed up and blocked a lot of projects aimed at modernising and developing shizuoka (like a new railway line running across shizuoka) so yeah, not just otaku, but also the people of shizuoka hate him

@@kilrathblade7618 Well I have to say „allegedly“ because you didn‘t provide any sources. It‘s not that I don‘t believe you, it‘s just that I‘m a court interpreter (or at least I used to be before becoming vaccine injured), so I‘m used to use the word allegedly. I know he wasn‘t blaming foreigners, that‘s what I said. My point was that a lot of governors, mayors, Japanese politicians in general and even medical „experts“ were blaming the pandemic in Japan on foreigners. The Japanese government even banned all immigrants, including PERMANENT RESIDENTS from entering Japan for 6 months. A lot of people lost their jobs, family, businesses, money, etc. Japan was also one of the last countries on earth to open for tourism. Even China opened up sooner. There was even a study published by some Japanese institute that Japanese people are somehow less infectious than foreigners. Things got so bad that some hospitals were refusing foreigners because of such unscientific and racist claims. Anyways, I didn‘t want to ramble off topic about the treatment of foreigners in Japan during the pandemic (or in general), it was just funny to read your comment, because usually when something goes wrong in Japan, these high ranking politicians try to blame foreigners. So it‘s kinda funny that this guy tried to blame Aqours and otaku. He also said bad things about farmers and the general non academic population, so I‘m very surprised he never publicly said something bad about foreigners. Former Tokyo governor Ishihara for example hated everyone, foreigners, LGBTQ people, poor people, disabled people, women, etc. I hope the new Shizuoka governor will be better, but I have my doubts.

Also I just want to add, about the new railway line, he complained that the construction would cause a lot of ecological damage, including damages to water supplies and that in the end it would economically cost more than benefit the prefecture. I don't know if he's right, I'm not educated enough on that topic to know if he's right or wrong, but it's not like he tried to block the project just because he's an ass. I'm not trying to defend him, he's the typical oyaji idiot, but some things are not black and white I guess.
