I'm myself know how the general casting mechanisms. Just in case you want to know : Casting audition, for example, audition for an anime cast is something that professional voice actors who belong to an agency can receive. But well, voice actors who's currently freelancers (ex. Hosoyan, OnoD) are also acceptable too, JUST IF THEY ARE CALLED OUT. This is not without reason, since the audition information is not disclosed to the public. The sound directors will browse the voice sample in the agencies official website to find a suitable cast and so they'll send the cast call to some agencies. In fact, the cast call isn't sent equally to all agencies. The audition information is usually given to a large, long-standing agency, a reputable medium or small size agency, or to a well-known freelance voice actors. Anyhow, to get involved into an audition, the role of manager is very important. In a large agency that has managers who's has good connection with anime producers or sound directors, getting an audition offer is not a difficult thing. A manager is usually responsible for one or more voice actors (both for newcomers or experienced voice actors). Sometimes, sound directors may ask for a specific name. But once again, auditioning doesn't mean you can be accepted right away. You have to meet the desired standard. As well as the sponsors and producers have a big role in the casting.

i think he either falls into the hero or the pervert villain spectrum which is something he himself admitted. imo Matsuoka, Hanae and Kaji yuki all fall into the "they would sound awesome as heroes" archetype which maybe makes sense of the frequency of them getting the lead roles, but i dunno maybe its just me who thinks that

@@vanarama0117 Yeah, I'm waiting for these three anime to air, especially Seirei Gensouki, since it's my favorite Light Novel. Hope they make that anime 24 EP or have an S2 since the three volume of that series only serves as a prologue to the main story. I hope he got more, though. Too bad Yuusuke Kobayashi already took the MC role of Realist Hero. Since Tsugu-Tsugu suited that role perfectly too.

Since Yuusuke Kobayashi is Matsuoka's kouhai (I think), at least give him a chance to play as MC role. Now he did it right? Probably because of Matsuoka-san I think..

@@vanarama0117 I have no problem on Yuusuke Kobayashi being the MC since he is my 2nd favorite VA next to Tsugu-Tsugu. I just thought that Tsugu-Tsugu suited Kazuya Souma perfectly, after reading the Light Novel.

They do go for auditions for the characters that they wish to act as, and most of the time they get that role, other times the producer give them a different role than what they auditioned for. Apparently the producers are rather strict in their choice of actors, and tend to pick the ones they think is best for the role. Sometimes they do sent invites to certain VA to audition for a role, but its not a guaranteed job, some random newbie might apply for the same role and performed better in the audition.

Yes, and there's more to it. It's how marketable and popular the seiyuu is already. That's a huge factor today in them choosing who gets the role. Especially for a AAA anime.

It does take effort for Matsuoka's voice to reach the state and range we're all familiar with...

I'm pretty sure even Kobayashi Yuusuke-san that debuted the same year as Matsuoka-san iirc set him as a goal because of how succesful is and now we can see Kobayashi-san getting leading roles which is really refreshing

It's more than that. Giving it all is a part of it. What you say makes it seem like other seiyuu aren't giving it their all. There were other seiyuu from Matsuoka's generation too, but aren't as popular, does this mean they didn't give it their all?

@@racaphrandomshitpost9788 I agree with OP. Since his role of Tanjiro, Nacchan has been getting lots of roles. Like A LOT. He didn't even have to audition for his Falco role in AoT. He also starred in a TV drama recently and had a 1 hr documentary abt him aired. Add to that his YT gaming channel and his Twitter where he has more than 2 mill subscribers make him the most followed VA in Japan. Some even didn't know his main job is a VA bc they knew him as a gaming YTuber. And now, he even has more roles, in 2022 alone he is part of 4 of the top 10 animes where he has 2 lead roles (tanjiro and vanitas) and 2 supporting roles (falco and milo). Not to mention, his other roles in other upcoming anime (9s, koko, etc.) Plus his involvement in music projects (paralive, milgram, honeyworks, b-pro).

His role as Inosuke in Kimetsu is pretty good too. I do hope they give Matsuoka the oportunity to play other kind of roles besides the harem protagonist, 'cause he nails them better than the main protagonist's ones (in my opinion).

that was the story of how Matsuoka got the role of Kirito. Except, when he saw the big names at the audition, he told himself, "hey, I'm not going to get the role anyway, may as well do it the way I feel like" and got the role.

Nowadays matsuoka is the harem god, not only in anime but in real life. I get it you're bias toward shimono but saying shimono's range is far more huge than matsuoka's is a bit too exaggerated, i mean have you seen he voiced petelgeuse? shouta mitarai? If nobody tells you that is him voiced those chara you wont even know it. Don't get me wrong i'm a big fan of shimono (still am) but im leaning more toward matsuoka.

I can feel the the character itself as a whole in term of personality and emotion... Even Kishou said in one of the drama cds I've been listening to long ago Shimonnu really does sound like that character he did... Even all the producers too said the same thing. Voice range generally speaking is more like high and low voice which both of them are very good at, which is why im disagree with you if you says shimono far more better than matsuoka. Everyone has their own taste in voice acting, you choose shimono, mine is matsuoka. Last but not least, matsuoka is the true HAREM GOD.

I'm not gonna mention Dabi cuz it's too mainstream, have u ever heard Shimono-san did Momo from Yatamomo? (I can say this is the masterpiece he did because of the voice range he has in just one character, from cute high pitch happy go lucky grown man to a depressed deep crying and sobbing voice in just split second) Have u ever heard him did pure, innocent little Nai from Karneval? Have u ever heard him did Raishin Akabane? Have u ever heard him did that prideful Eva Armstrong?? Have u ever heard him did Katsuragi Keima, God of Conquest? Like I said, everyone has their own taste, mine is matsuoka.

Btw the way sorry if this came out wrong, I absolutely adore Shimono, Hanae and Matsuoka. Obviously Kito too. I just think they do it unconciously, but it's kinda sad to watch for me.

The senpai-kouhai thing might be at play here, but Natsuki and Shimono are generally really talkative so it makes it difficult for Akarin to cut in.

Akari Kito already got a of leading roles by the time she got Nezuko so the question is kinda unfit for her and would come off as conceited if she did answer, I think that's why Shimono cut her immediately

Compared to those two, she's still their junior. She didn't interrupt because that would be rude and also, Kito Akari is not as talkative as the other two, especially Shimono Hiro. Matsuoka only talks a lot when there are only guys around.

The senpai-kouhai relationship weighs heavily here. It doesn't matter if the new ones are very popular, they always should respect seiyus with more experience. The same would happen if the sempai is younger and the kouhai is older, here what matters to them is who has more experience in the industry most of the time. I guess japanese tradition. Something that should also be emphasized is that Shimono is very relaxed when it comes to interacting with his kouhais, he is not as serius as other seiyus with the same experience and years (By serious I mean that you can pull pranks on him that you could never do to a lot of other older seiyus. And he will play along even if you are a kohai). That's why Hanae is so confident to joke around with him. I think he said it on Kimetsu radio, that Shimono was easy to talk to.
